So we need perspective because it's "not the worst thing" on WEEI? What does that say about that show and that station? He's not being thin-skinned about it either. A grown man does not take shots at a 5-year-old on the air. It's wrong.
This is where I am at. It also makes Reimer something short from being a "grown man". This is also not the first time Brady's children got unfairly targeted (the Barstool episode a while ago).

P.S. At least on my Android podcast app (DoggCatcher), the Brady interview is conspicuously absent from the "Kirk & Callahan" show but 3-4 others talking about Reimer and how this is the "biggest story in America" are.

I’m not sure. Barstool posted a nude photo of one of Brady’s kids and didn’t miss a beat.

Well, let me ask you: what do you think the point of the show is? There's Chopra's motivation, and then there's Brady's (and Gisele's) motivation. Let's leave Chopra aside for the moment.

Brady is a professional athlete with an 18-year history of being guarded about his personal life. Some top pros don't mind being open books about their life; others like Lebron and Federer are as guarded as he is. He does what's required of him by his league and team, and basically no more. So why the sudden change? What does this gain him?

I have my own answer, but I'd be interested in yours.
I'm also curious about why he's doing this. He really has been so guarded. My ordinary assumption is that if you ever are asking the question "why is someone doing something," you eliminate sex and revenge as motives. Once those are eliminated, the answer, no matter how unlikely or indirect, is money.

In this case, though, I'm not sure that's right. My hunch is that he's a believer in his system and wants to get the word out. But, more than that, I think no matter how good he is at shutting it out, the narrative that is written and discussed about him probably hurts him on some level and this is his attempt to control the narrative. And while I'm loving watching it, I admit that I'm also very surprised by it. This is not some NFL films thing where it's expected you'll sit down and talk to them about important games or years or careers. There's some narcissism here. He's voluntarily looking into a camera, and voluntarily letting a guy film intimate moments with his family, and putting it out there.

There's nothing wrong with that. I'm just surprised.

I think Barstool took a big hit. Also, Reimer is an employee of WEEI. Barstool is/was self-owned.

While I am no fan of WEEI and would like to see the morning show vaporized, let's get a little perspective here on just how terrible Reimer was or wasn't. He made a snarky comment about some cute kids, that's all. It's not the worst thing said on WEEI by a long shot and Brady is being a little thin-skinned about this. Worse, he's jacked up their ratings because the "will they or won't they fire Reimer" is now the hottest take on sports radio. WEEI can milk this for the entire week leading up to the Super Bowl. Why learn anything about the Eagles when you can spend all your time stirring up in-house drama?
Eh, I mean, it's Tom's job as a parent to stand up for his kids. Whatever his reaction is toward someone publicly mocking his small child is within bounds and pretty much excusable (short of something like threatening violence or making a vendetta to ruin the guy's career even after whatever happens at EEI). If his reaction was "Eh, whatever man, I don't want to rock the boat for WEEI just because someone made fun of my kid!" I'd think less of him as a person.

Now, WEEI's considerations are purely business-related, so what they do should be viewed through that lens, for better and for worse. If this was coordinated, well, it was a calculated risk and they will see if it pays off. For both the station and Reimer.

Yeah, this is a good point. It's not like I personally am all up in arms against Reimer on TB's kid's behalf. If I heard it on the radio I'd just mentally roll my eyes and think "what an ass" and that would be it. But it's not surprising that the kid's Dad wants to call it out.

I don't listen to EEI, but did Reimer or the other guys issue an apology/statement?

And fwiw, Brady is well within bounds to tell a loud-mouth asshole to lay-off his child,

If I get one Belichick media request, it's a tell-all book. One 43-minute video suitable for television is not going to slake my thirst for what the man actually thinks.
And you think ONE book can explain what this man thinks?
I want a Series.

Chapter 1, Book 1, Volume 1, Series1
1991 1st 3 Downs, 1st Qtr Browns Vs Cowboys
Chapter 2, Book 1, Volume 1, Series1
1991 The Punt 1st Qtr Browns Vs Cowboys
Etc etc

It sort of all depends on what happens now. If Brady will take a call from Reimer, I would think there's a possible apology here that could work and that everyone could get past.

On the one hand, good for Tom, and I wouldn't be surprised if WEEI cans Reimer in order to keep TB as a regular feature. Know where your bread is buttered, etc. I'd expect any parent to feel similarly.

On the other hand, Tom had to kind of expect that if he's going to make a Kardashians-like spectacle out of his family, some people are going to voice moronic opinions about them, and he can be neither too surprised nor offended. If a public figure preserves his family's privacy, then I agree that remarking about them is beyond the pale (except maybe for the POTUS) and deserves shaming. But if you go out of your way to put them on display, then trying to police everyone's opinions about it after the fact seems not only futile but foolish.

You brought this on yourself, dude. You used your family as props, in a PR strategy to make you more relatable or sell a brand or whatever. Nobody knows better than you how stupid the sports media are, particularly in Boston. So I have limited sympathy for his outrage.
I'm not attacking you - in fact I like the vast majority of what you post. That said...

Context: The voice over is (Brady?) talking about Brady being all in on destroying his opponents. "You better be prepared to sacrifice everything to beat me, because I am." That sort of thing. And the scene is Brady on the phone talking about work related stuff while his excited daughter is trying unsuccessfully trying to get daddy's attention. Maybe it's too subtle, but I thought that was the director illustrator the point that he was putting the job ahead of family. So, I'm not sure that was a pure case of Brady putting his children in as a prop - other than signing off on the edit I guess. Maybe I'm reaching but that's the way I saw it.

An excited child calling out for daddy to share her news is as far from Kardashian behavior as one can get. Describing a normal healthy family exchange as a "Kardashian-like spectacle" is way off the mark - I'm at a loss for how far off the mark. That kind of sensationalism is part of the problem with what is wrong with our society. I don't give a hoot about the trappings of celebrity (or whatever is being passed for one), but I've got a moment to listen/watch a young child express unadulterated joy. And anyone who describes that child in that moment as "an annoying pissant" is soulless (or a professional moron if it is merely an attempt at living up to a schtick). If we let a schmuck off the hook for taking a shot at a child shame on us - because then we are condoning it. (I'm not hearing you condone it.) So if he is soulless he should be called out on it, and if he is executing his schtick - then he should suffer professionally for disparaging an unsuspecting child (and more so the child of one of his stations more noteworthy assets).

I don't think Brady should have expected it. It crosses into serious cynicism to expect that merely showing ones child in a happy moment was fair game for a schmuck to take aim and fire. And if he was wrong and should have expected it - shame on us. It is basic decency that you don't harm a child, and 2 minutes of background family footage in a series about a professional athlete facing down his professional mortality is not holding them up for critique in my opinion.

All that said - I hope this series doesn't turn into a commercial for TB12 products - if it does it will embolden these sort of schmucks to behave even more poorly.

WEEI or whoever is 100% free to talk shit about Brady or his kids.

Alternatively, Brady is 100% free to never talk to them again.

There is a pre set path in Boston for guys being a douchebag just to be one. Shank, Tanguay and Felger all rode to strategy to more prominence. They are free to do it, but going after the most popular players kid, may not be the best career strategy for Reimer. But we are far from have a shortage of media assholes in Boston

Not to speak for InstaFace, but I think the comparison to the Kardashians is simply that both they and Tom Brady have decided to record their family at home and to sell it as a television product.

I think you are reaching. While he IS talking about schedule, pretty sure he is talking to Gisele in that scene. "Alright babe", "I love you", etc.

Actually no, watching again, it is a guy he is talking to. AG or Josh maybe? Hard to tell. I still disagree with the whole "putting work ahead of the family" angle. How many times are we on an adult call and we have to tell our kids to shut up for a second? It may not be work related, it could be on the phone with the dentist or something, but that didn't seem to be the point of the scene.

Maybe, but Kris had her daughter release a sex tape, Brady had his kid on camera for 2 seconds talking about soccer. It's a really, really thin connection.

I think it's a little somewhere in between. They're not trying to make it look like he's neglecting his family. They're trying to show how balancing football and life is a constant, everyday struggle.

And WEEI is also fair game for consumers to voice their displeasure at the format/content/choices of its on air personnel - the most effective means of which is to simply change the dial. We all decide what we think is fair game.

It is being discussed in the media thread, but I do not believe Tom Brady is free to never talk to them again. Entercom paid for exclusive rights to "Patriot Monday" during the season which specifically includes a 1:1 interview with Tom Brady, which I am fairly sure Brady is contractually obligated to do as part of his contract with the Pats.

This will all get worked out because it is in everyone's (Brady, WEEI, the Patriots) best interests for Brady to continue doing these interviews, but he's not doing it because he likes having conversations with the morons on in the mornings on WEEI.

Sure. And if that’s the case, he can go on and repeat ‘we’re on to Cincinnati’ for fifteen minutes every Monday.

That's a reasonable take - to me it just didn't mesh with the voiceover and the 'sacrifice' quote. It's seems a weird place to stick that scene if it doesn't have the connotation I gave it. YMMV.

Yeah, I get it, but that's why it is in everyone's best interest to work this out. Entercom paid the Pats for access to Brady. As mad as I am sure he is, and justifiably so, ultimately Brady is going to do right by his employer.

I wonder if he doesn't violate the terms of the deal if he decides he wants to do his weekly interview with some other show on WEEI. I know BB already does his with Dale, Holley and Keefe, bit is there anything to stop Brady from going there or to the MF-ers?

I live the fact that Brady cane out and fired a shot at the whole general thrust of sports talk radio.

And even if he should expect it—the world as it is—for putting his kids in the video...

So what? And who is to say he didn’t? They got to say their piece, and he told them what he thought of it.

Where is the problem? Market place of ideas at work, yo.

His response is a wonderful rejection of everything they are about. There’s a beautiful tension here where the wanna be tough guys who spout this crap to show how much nothing bothers them have as the object of their adoration a big, goofy, affable dork who just happens to be the world’s greatest assassin on a football field.

Is there a "time limit expectation" that Brady has (had) to fulfill?

I would call up next week say "Thanks to the Fans for supporting us we are glad we won the 6th. I am off to the parade!" Click

Next year calmer heads prevail and he is back on in the morning.

Episode three up now; just viewed it, the best one yet IMHO. Covers preseason prep in Montana, Jule's season-ending injury, Pats going from 2-2 to 6-2 before the bye.

Adorable cameo at the end by the little daughter; fuck that WEEI asshat.

I think everyone should proceed with the understanding that this *is* at least in part an infomercial and just be OK with it. It's still a great inside look into these people we root for. The stuff he's going through to stay this sharp at this age is still fascinating. We don't get any of this without it.

He's so full of shit. If he could get an edge by understanding social media, he would. Hell, he probably understands it better than half of us.

Plus, the fact that he actually knows Tom v. Time is on a non-traditional platform is kind of telling. I'm sure he doesn't give a shit about Tom v. Time but not because of the platform it's on. If facebook had unique angles of Le'Veon Bell play action, he'd figure that thing out in a second. Don't get me wrong -- his whole grumpy luddite act is hilarious.

I don’t disagree I was just pleasantly surprised that the first two weren’t too bad with it and I thought this one was a bit much.

That was probably done on purpose to suck some people in who questioned the whole series and now are sucked in.
I am solidly among those some people.

But still fun as hell.

Okay, the dubbing of actual game calls of plays to Amendola and Edelman over them running routes in the summer was pretty cool.
