Sort of a bummer for the staff he offered to bring along and promote.

I wonder if his title will change to OC and Asst Head Coach or something like that.
I also assume BB has given a timeline of 1 or 2 more years and Josh has been given the spot.

He had to have gotten an assurance because no one else is going to hire him now.

I can’t believe I’m saying this but I can’t wait to read Doyel’s whiny article about this

BB's "fuck you tour" next season?

And my dad said the same thing someone here did--maybe he finally got a look at Luck's medicals.

If there was a verbal agreement, does Goodell dock the Pats a draft pick?

I never understood why he would leave anyway. Even if it meant waiting a few years. His situation is fantastic
Doesn’t it come down to (a) how much longer BB plans to stick around, and (b) assurances that he’s the successor. I think the fact that he’s staying answers speaks volumes about those two questions.

McD couldn’t realistically keep saying “no” to teams for another 5-8 years if he really wanted to be considered as a viable candidate for head coaching jobs. There was already reportedly some frustration from the 49ers last year from being strung along.

He learned this trick from the two Bills
I was thinking the same thing.. that Josh saw the two Bills and realized it would be a mistake to go to a worse situation. Also wonder if losing the super bowl had a lot to do with it.

It won't be whiny. It will, however, answer the question of how many ways one can one say "I told ya so" in one column.

The rumor was that McDaniels was going to take Judge and Schuplinski with him so this move keeps them here as well.

I'd have to think it's one more year for BB because wouldn't McDaniels want Brady as his QB versus Hoyer or an unproven rookie to start off his realm? And I can't imagine BB retiring after what happened Sunday

So glad to have something new - and positive - to talk about after 2 days of the Butler crap!

Payback for Kraft to the NFL too. He did not like how that went down

Last year for B.B., which makes sense No where for Josh to go now, and can’t see him holding on as OC without 100% guarantee that job is his very soon.

He's probably the successor, although that's ultimately a totally losing proposition.
He strikes me as a guy who loves this job, and loves working with Brady.

How would they dock the Pats if McDaniels changed his mind?
Robert coming in with a godfather offer after another team has made a hire means we're losing draft picks to Indy. Jonathan will arrange to have the Commish's Maine estate burned to the ground, preferably with him in it.
