Splendid strategy. We don’t have any particular needs. We’re overall so thin that all 10 picks we end up with will make the roster.

I think this makes sense. There isn't really anyone I find attractive in this part of the 2nd round. Even at the end of the second, the players who might be there are a bit of a reach for me.

That trade is basically a bet that the Bears stink next year
I think that's a good bet.

I also think the Pats recognize that the guys they like are simply not getting drafted this early, so they have time. May as well stockpile in the interim. It's worked for almost 20 years, no reason to change now.

There goes the Rutgers kid.

Or maybe two second round picks next year gives us the capital to trade up into round one for Brady’s successor.
I really don’t think it’s any more complex than “do we need to pick NOW or can we trade down and build more draft capital?”

So, they basically delayed the second rounder from this year to next in exchange for two fourths now.

Honest question: How much do you think taking two first-rounders plays financially into dropping back?

Maybe they're content with a guy like Carter falling to the end of this round and then nabbing a DE with a 4th round grade like Duke Ejiofor (whom they had for a visit).

This is all fine. As long as you weren’t saying last night they have all of rounds 2 and 3 to bolster the defense. (I was saying that.)

Yep and the second rounder next year is probably going to be better than #43 that they had this year.

Probably a smart trade but it sure is frustrating when you just want them to pick a player now. Just speaking as a fan wanting to see good players added to my favorite team tonight.

I would like to see some defensive players too, but let's not forget, the Pats have basically picked up 3 starting defensive players already this offseason in Hightower, Clayborn and Shelton. They'll fill the holes one way or another.

I had to text this exact thing to my grandfather who is apoplectic (year after year).

I think Bill just didn’t want to be bored in the fourth round.

Pats trade up. I’m thinking it’s for Rudolph or Harrison here
