He’s a local kid. He’s been a teammate of my son’s, I’ve watched him play, umpired him, talked to him, written about him, and I know him. Forget about the numbers. The most impressive thing about this kid is his composure. He may or may not win tonight, but he will not be nervous or get rattled by anything. Guarantee that. Very excited to see him tonight.

Anyone watching the Red Sox tonight, and not this Braves/Mets game is missing out on seeing this kid. Amazing poise. 5 Ks and scattered 5 hits through 5 innings so far. No walks, no runs.

Indians were down to their last strike against the Rangers and Keone Kela when Michael Brantley connected on the first grand slam of his career to tie the game 6-6… Texas had a 6-0 lead at the 7th inning stretch. Extra innings. Cleveland has exhausted its bullpen over the past few days though – Andrew Miller is on the DL and Cody Allen is unavailable after 40+ pitches last night, so they're hoping to end this sooner rather than later.

Trout with no lineup protection right now, Kinsler ahead of him and Upton and Pujols behind him all with sub-.700 OPSs. Tonight the Orioles walked him four times, three intentional.

Rumors on the Internets say that Ichiro may retire soon. Sounds like the M's were going to release him.

James Paxton with 16 K's through 7 (105 pitches, 80 for strikes). The Mariners (and Braves) making some noise this year.

After the Mariners pulled Paxton, Juan Nicasio and Edwin Diaz combined to give up three runs in the final two innings to lose to the A's 3-2.

I love how I saw the few posts before that and I knew that there would soon be a DJJ follow-up with "Only X times since 19XX" in it. You are awesome to have around here!

That’s not 524 feet.

It broke statcast but that’s not 524 feet
Yeah the box score I believe has it at 444 which seems way more realistic. Credit to Mike Trout though for being so good that a HR distance can be obviously wrong and people will believe it.

Harvey got rocked again and all his teammates basically hate him. Have to think a release might be coming.

Yeah, he should be traded so he could start over somewhere else.

I keep thinking back to the 2015 WS when he basically dominated the Royals in Game 6, but talked Terry Collins out of taking him out for the closer (Familia) and proceeded to blow the game and the Series.

Well, I see from Cots that he's in his last year of arbitration so might as well release him. I don't think any team would pick up the salary or give them anything worth it at this time.

Yeah, no one is giving anything up for this Matt Harvey in his walk year. I think they'll just cut him loose, and soon

If the Mets place him on waivers, a claiming team would be on the hook for about $4.5 million... and then he becomes a free agent after the season. It seems unlikely the Mets can salvage any value at this point. What contending team would have the patience to see if he can be fixed? What rebuilding team spends that much on the chance they can fix him this year, just to watch him leave at the end of the year? I'm sure several are willing to take that shot for league minimum, but it seems unlikely he'd get claimed or traded.

Weren’t there rumors of a Sox trade for Harvey a couple years back? Who were we supposedly giving up for him?

I like to think Julian Edelman is the reason for Harvey’s downfall.

What about DFA? If no one claims him he can be a FA or accept going to the minors.

Matt Harvey is indeed done with the Mets.

BREAKING: The Mets have requested that Matt Harvey agree to a minor league assignment. He refused to accept, and will be DFA'd.

DFA question on whether he's 100% done with the Mets.

If you're Matt Harvey and you get DFA'd, and no team trades for or claims you, would it not then be wise (or at least worth a thought) of accepting a minor league reassignment for the chance to show improvement over the next couple months? So he could get a deal for next year. Otherwise, you're a free agent that no team wanted for about $4 million, which presumably means you're out of baseball for the rest of the year?

The first four words make the “wise” option unlikely.

3,000 is legit; a lot of all time greats don’t have that on their resume.

Gerrit Cole went 0-5 with 5 K's in an interleague game at Arizona, but struck out 16 in a shutout.

Orioles lose again. This one in a walk-off in the 12th at Oakland. They are now tied with the Reds (why did they fire their manager, again?) for the worst record in MLB at 8-25. Ouch.

EDIT: Jim Palmer at 72 looks 47. You go, guy!

Fun game still going on MLBN, LAA and SEA tied at 7 in the 11th now, It was 4-2 LAA going to the bottom of the 8th, but the teams have scored in four of the five half innings since then.

Both teams scored 1 in the 10th, now both have scored 1 in the 11th, SEA trying to win it with a runner on second still and one out.

Glad I turned that one on for the 14th, 2-2 through 13. Javy Baez blasts a HR in the top of the inning, then in the bottom of the inning, he almost makes a fantastic play to get the third out but he pulls the 1B off the bag. Next batter Dexter Fowler muscles one into the right field corner that just sneaks over the wall, Heyward barely missed it, Cards beat Cubs again, 4-3.

The Royals scored 10 against the Orioles in the top of the first. Dylan Bundy faced seven batters and gave up four home runs while getting zero outs.

Kike Hernandez with a huge HR in the bottom of the 9th, LAD-ARI now tied at 5. Boxberger’s first blown save of the year, the Dodgers were two outs away from falling 9 back.

Dodgers leave five runners on in the 10th/11th and Descalso just hit a 3 run HR in the 12th, 8-5 ARI.

8-5 final, Dodgers drop 9 back.

Somehow these teams have already played 12 times (ARI 8-4), they have one more tomorrow and then don’t play again until August 30.

Apparently the lineup they released publicly was what was posted in dugout but wasn't what was turned into umpires before game.

Jay Bruce gets penalized with a 2U even though he was correctly hitting in his spot.

Mets were batting according to the order posted in the dugout and released public. Umpires had a different lineup card which was apparently delivered by Ruben Amaro Jr. today. Because of course it was.

Wow, what a screw up by the Mets, in a game they lose 2-1.

They are in a complete free fall - started, what 12-2 or something, are now 18-17 and in 4th place in the NL East....
