hey guys perhaps somebody can help me out here. me and my friends plan on getting both the PS3 version and the online DTV option and using an external 30 inch monitor as the secondary screen.

anyway i am concerned about some potential conflict if i personally buy both packages with my billing info. its probably best to have my friend do one and me the other, yes?

Also is the PS3 option to buy live yet?

How do you download the ps3 app? I don't see it under TV/Video services.

Does anyone know how many Pats games are expected to be nationally broadcast? I'm in the DC market and the last few years I'd say 6-8 Pats games have been shown here -- between Thursday, Sunday and Monday night games and the 4pm national games. So while the online one sounds appealing to me, I just want to make sure I'd be getting more than a handful of games.

I think it's 4, 3 NBC and 1 ESPN. The NBC games are subject to change--there could be more or less, depending on flex in the second half of the year. You can figure out if you're going to see more by comparing the Pats and the Redskins schedules (and Ravens?). In NY, we're likely to only get 2 more Pats games on TV because of Jets/Giants conflicts.

6. 4 national games (3 NBC and one on ESPN) and 2 late CBS games early in the year. Flex games that are available don't look appealing, so that's likely it.

Plus he could get some CBS games when the Ravens are playing at 4 or on national.

Week 1, CBS has Nantz/Simms doing the Pats/Titans game, so I assume you'll get that in DC.

Check here for other possibilities: http://www.the506.com/nflmaps/

I think the Pats-Titans game is going to be on in the DC area, I was watching ND-Navy and in the Week 1the promo itwas listed as the first game; the Ravens open MNF.

Thanks -- my calculus for this is #/games x #/beers/shitty burgers/nachos I have to buy to justify being at a bar. Plus, I have little kids who nap kind of during the games but not always all the way thru them. $250 sounds like a good deal.

So I took the plunge and bought the online version. I ran a cat 5 cable to my basement home theater and bought the desktop at the link below to network in. MLB.tv looks great on the setup...we'll see if directv can do an okay job of delivering a usable stream. Now to mess with Plex and XBMC.

http://slickdeals.ne...-BestBuy-257-99
I've got a new, but middle-of-the-road laptop that I'll be using to stream the video to the television, using HDMI-out.

My setup is that I live in the guest apartment behind the main house and the wireless router is located in the main house. I get about 15 mbps sitting at my kitchen table, but only about 7mbps in the livingroom, so on gamedays, I'll be running a 15-ft HDMI cable from my laptop in the kitchen to the television in the living room.

I tested this setup with MLB.TV and it worked fairly well, but I was unable to run it at max picture quality without just the slightest bit of stuttering. In an effort to fix this, I bought another wireless router to act as a wireless repeater using DD-WRT, but this actually decreased my signal strength when compared to just connecting to the main router directly.

My next attempt was to buy a wireless USB adapter with 300mpbs capabilities. My internal wireless adapter only has 150mbps capabilities, but even with the new USB adapter running at 300mbps, my signal strength wasn't as strong as before.

Tonight, I'll be upgrading my RAM from 2GB to 6GB. Should I expect better video streaming with this upgrade? Are there any other relatively inexpensive (think less than $40) tweaks I can make that will improve my streaming video experience? My goal is to get this as close to HD as possible without any of the stuttering nonsense that will aggravate the hell out of me on gamedays.

Corsi, I bought something like this a couple years ago and it really helped boost my WiFi signal. I haven't used it in a year and a half since I moved, but it worked pretty well.

Ah! Good call. The adapter I bought before didn't have an antenna, so I'll give one of these a try. I ended up buying this one from Micro Center, since I'll be picking up the RAM from there tonight.

I'm interested in this as well. I share an MLB.TV account with a friend in New York and it works fine for each of us. I'd be be looking to share the NFLST account with a friend in DC. I guess we really won't know until Week 1.
It doesn't work. Two people can't be logged in at the same time. It's literally impossible to watch on two devices at once. I've used Sunday Ticket to go the last 3 seasons and I can tell you it simply doesn't do what you guys want.

Thanks for clearing that up. Looks like I'll be flying solo.

What's your experience with the streaming quality? Lots of complaints on the PS3 side of things, but I haven't heard much about the online-only product.

Hit or miss, to be honest. What I found was that the first week or two it wasn't great, but then over time it got better (people lost interest maybe). I watched on MBP and my iPhone all the time. Heck, I used to plug my iphone into my car stereo and listen to games that way. Worked well enough.

It's a good service. It's not a $250 service IMHO, especially considering how much better At Bat is at a way better price.

Really annoyed to find out that the PS3 option is JUST PS3. Cannot watch on a laptop, even if it's not at the same time. God I hate DirecTV. The picture quality better be decent, but I have a feeling it won't be.

Another option is NFL Game Rewind, a day after online streaming service. There are restrictions, like not being able to start watching any video when a game is on live, but it's an inexpensive option ($35-$70 depending on the level you choose) for people who want watch and it has a couple of nice features like coach's video for some plays, watch multiple games at once and the ability to watch any game played this season. It's more of a suppliment than a solution, but I found it useful when watching games were not always an option like when my kids had soccer games or my wife dragged me to the in-laws.

Working a job where I might have to miss a few Pats games live, I'm definitely considering signing up for this. Does anyone know how soon you can watch the replay after the game is finished, and if the app will spoil the scores prior to watching? Thanks in advance.

And that killed it for me. Glad you found this out before I dropped 250 bucks on the PS3 option

It depends on the day of the week the game is played. Sunday games are available Monday morning, Monday and Thursday games are available 2 hours after the games are over(or something like that). The main concern is the NFL doesn't want to y to able to start watching during any possible live game. I can't remember if the app or web page gives any scores.

People are saying on here that they're able to pay $250 for the online-only version and then log into the PS3 version with their DirecTV login.

Haven't tried it myself, but I will tonight. Seems bizarre that they'd leave a loophole like this open, but who knows?

Does paying for the PC service at $250 give you access via iPad/iPhone? Or maybe that is the feature PS3 owners are paying more for (i.e. maybe they just don't classify the PS3 as a 'mobile' device any longer)?

For the $250 service:
Even if you happen to live an area where you can’t get DIRECTV service, you’re still in luck. You can get NFL SUNDAY TICKET for your computer, tablet, and phone. That means you can watch every out-of-market game LIVE every Sunday anywhere you have an Internet connection—in your home, in your favorite café, anywhere.

Also just noticed that we're able to log into the Sunday Ticket online page now.

Really liking the features. Full Sceen allows you to move your cursor to the bottom bar (which is hidden until you move cursor there) and flip between games without having to exit the game you're currently in.

The streaming quality of the Red Zone Channel (the only channel/game currently streaming on there) leaves a bit to be desired in full screen though. Hopefully the quality is a bit better for the games themselves.

Adjust the picture quality, I think it looks pretty good on the screen once you move it up to the highest quality.

So what's the incentive for the PS3 service? Just $50 extra to watch it via PS3?

How far behind the live game is the Sunday Ticket stream usually? I previewed MLB.TV for a bit and what drove me nuts was that it was at least a few minutes behind the live action, really took the excitement (and value) out of it when my phone was updating faster.

that link is causing a friend of mine heartburn. He's worried this whole thing is a scam (eg identity theft scam) because there are no links at the top of that page back to the regular DirecTV sites nor are there phone number links. You also can't navigate to it from the DirecTV home page or the NFL Sunday Ticket homepage.

He called DirecTV and the sales rep had no idea what he was talking about and said there was no online streaming option to non-DTV subs. He's also suspicious because no major media outlets have picked up on this story, nor have any mainstream tech blogs. You would think this would be a big story, right?

I figure DTV just isn't openly promoting this so they don't freak out the cable companies who hate the NFL for the exclusive rights structure. But I can't say his concerns are totally unfounded.

So you guys have purchased this and logged in? This seems so strangely handled.

Clicking the 'DirecTV' logo at the top navigates back to the DirecTV main page. All it requires is address and CC information, right? Your friend must be really paranoid if he is so worried about giving that out.

If you google the link you will find its the same link been used for the last couple of years and major sites like engadget have reviewed it in years past

Given last year cost $350 I'm surprised that they are offering it for $250 this year.

Yeah, I've been able to log in both online and via PS3, using the same login.

I think the reason it's been quiet and there's been no huge press release/marketing surrounding the online (or PS3 option) is because they don't want to cannibalize their own business w/r/t DirecTV subscriptions. They probably figure the people who are savvy enough to read the blogs and seek out an alternative option to subscribing fully to DTV weren't going to be full-time customers anyway. By not marketing this alternative, it allows the rubes that think the only way to get Sunday Ticket is via a full subscription to continue to happily overpay for a service they could get cheaper elsewhere.

Update: I called the number on that page and got a sale rep who confirmed the online-only package and said it's legit. He asked me about subscribing to full DirecTV and I told him I had a building blocking my sight line for the dish and he said 'then this option is open to you'.

My paranoid friend is taking the plunge. Ha

I'm thinking of taking the plunge too - guessing they are not actually going to check if the dish obstruction ruse (for me) is really true?

Also, concerned about this from the FAQ:
NFL SUNDAY TICKET has to enforce blackout rules as required by the NFL. These rules include applying blackouts to those areas where the local team hasn't sold sufficient tickets within a certain time.
So I'm in the Bay Area, I may not get the Patriots game if the Raiders are blacked out? Anyone know how often this happened last year or if there is a place to find out?

I would assume this means that you (everyone) wouldn't get the Tampa game this weekend, for example, since it's going to be blacked out locally in Tampa.

edit: At least, I hope this is the case. The phrasing from the FAQ is a little funny. It just seems ridiculous that they'd punish fans who are trying to watch out-of-market games because the local team, which you could give a shit about, didn't sell enough tickets.

The only games that are blacked out are the ones on locally (or blacked out locally) to your IP.

If the Tampa game is blacked out Tampa fans are fucked but you're not if you live in Boston.

FML. After being hesitant about signing up due to mixed results last year, I took the plunge this morning. Computer login works, however iPad and PS3 both do not. It keeps saying that my login/password are incorrect. After spending an hour on the phone with DirecTV, they told me its a known issue, and they're working on resolving it before the games start today. Already disgruntled.

EDIT: Just tried logging in. Totally worked. Excited! Can also stream from iPad to Apple TV. Double excited!

Last year, the issue was that once the games started, the service had issues. Let me know how it is this year.

This isn't a loophole. If you look at the website, Sunday Ticket MAX includes online access and PS3 access.
