Trevor Rosenthal has three appearances for WAS so far this season and has yet to record an out, 7 batters faced, 4 hits, 3 walks, 7 runs scored. That's not so good.

Moving the Line
I was just coming to post this. Not often you see an ERA of INF after 3 outings
Yeah, it's a major league first from at least 1908. Previous record was 2 straight appearances to have 0.0 IP, 1+ ER to start a season, by nine other pitchers, beginning with Lum Davenport of the 1921 White Sox.

Most appearances in a season to record no outs and allow 1+ ER in each such outing is a two way tie between Scott Downs of the 2014 White Sox and Royals in addition to George Sherrill of the 2006 Mariners, each with 9.

All time record of ∞ ERA appearances is old friend Mike Meyers with 49.

Bard-esque
Was hoping someone else caught that. First thing that came to mind was the Bard - Nick Swisher pitch which I always thought was the single greatest pitch I've ever seen. That said this pitch from Alvarado just might have topped it. The late movement is just insane. Looks like a screwball but at 99MPH.

“Less” movement I think, but a tighter and later break. The PitchFx for this half inning is pretty wild.

That's definitely pathetic and goes a long way to show why officiating as a whole is so shitty. From that thread, I absolutely love this guy's proposal:

"I completely agree. But I think the most fun way to implement that would be giving each manager one reverse throw out a year.

Ump: You're outta here!

Manager: No. YOU'RE OUTTA HERE!

Just one per year per manager. Each game has to have one back up ump on standby.

It would be beautiful."

I wish every manager in MLB would use it on Angel Hernandez. If somehow the stars aligned where Hernandez wasn't in the last game of the season and a manager had a suplex left, then C.B. Bucknor.

Edit: Wrong thread.

Can’t wait to see absolutely nothing happen to Kulpa.

Deadspin has a write up of the Kulpa thing here.

Who could forget his power trip vs Ortiz and Farrell

Current OPS of Mike Trout and the four guys hitting behind him tonight, why would anyone pitch to him ever?

Trout 1.151
Bour .322
Simmons .367 (left midgame, replaced by Fletcher, .462)
Pujols .611
La Stella .438

Nick Markakis went 5 for 5 with 3 doubles last night. He's the first player to do that since...
Nick Markakis. Braves sweep Cubs.

Seattle is so bad defensively. I can’t believe the Sox lost 3 of 4. Seattle has made three consecutive errors in the 1st inning. 16 errors on the season.

The way the starters were pitching, the offense had to hit the ball out of the park pretty much every time up, so there wasn't a lot of room for trying to force errors. If it wasn't for the three errors that one guy made in the 9th in the game they lost by a run it wouldn't have even been that close (thanks again, X).

It's why they're this year's "start white hot, fall off a cliff, go into seller's mode by the deadline" team.

Just saw that Chris Davis is 0 for 17 with 11 Ks (four walks though). His contract has to be the all time champion worst, doesn't it? Even Sandoval was useful in comparison.

Meanwhile SEA has four more HRs in the first 6 innings to turn a 6-2 deficit to a 8-6 lead, leading the AL in HRs now with 17 in 8 games.

Hanser Alberto, who was picked up and released by 3-4 teams this winter, pinch-hit for him late yesterday and got a standing ovation from the BAL crowd.

Yandy Diaz (1.235 OPS) hits HR to help Rays to a 4-0 lead after top of first in SF home opener. Launch angle project on track.

Edit: and he broke his bat on the HR

Glasnow throws six scoreless innings and Rays beat SF 5-2.

Rays are 2 games into playing 7 straight day games. That doesn’t happen too often these days.

He's also something like 1-57 going back to last season. They should probably just eat the contract and sign me at this point. I will play for the minimum.

Tampa is absolutely loaded in the minors too, top to bottom. If Honeywell comes back strong, that is all of a sudden a fourth rotation slot filled too.

Quoting myself from last night, tonight the Angels are up 3-1 late, two solo HRs by our hero and four hits for the rest of the team combined. I ask again...

I'm reasonably sure I could do better than 1-57 just by bunting, if I manage to not get killed in the process.

For his salary, I'd be more than willing to try.

Cubs pitching so far has allowed better overall numbers than Mike Trout's career:

Trout's career .307.,417/.575
Cubs opponents: .321/.428/.594

Wild game between NatsTown and MetsTown this afternoon in Queens. It started as a pitcher's duel between Corbin and Matz, 1-0 through 5 with 17 Ks between them, but then both teams started hitting homers. Two solo HRs in the 6th knocked out Corbin and gave the Mets a 3-1 lead, WAS got one back on a two base wild pitch that Ramos didn't know got by him, and then went ahead in the top of the 8th on the first two homers Familia has given up here since 2016.

So 5-3 Nats, and the ever amusing Nats pen gives up two more solo HRs to Alonso (who looks like a beast early on) and Cano to the first two batters, tied at 5 now and the Mets have 5 HRs, most they've ever had in a game at Citi Field (opened in 2009).

Fake edit: now Keon Broxton singles in the go-ahead run, 6-5 Mets bottom 8, another pitching change for WAS. Their bullpen, yikes.

Mets have been very good so far this year; they've been (outside of today) scoring without HRs, which is a nice change of pace from the past few years, and the pitching (outside of the 5th starter and the middle bullpen) has been quite good. The funny thing is, if they went out today and signed Kimbrel and Keuchel, I'd say they might be the favorites at this point in the NL east.

A completely random rant - what kind of idiot set up their schedule this week. They played a night game Wed in Miami, left at 11pm, got in at 2am (for many, the first time they've been in NY since the start of spring training), and then had their home opener Thurs night vs WAS (which the offense sleepwalked through and lost), followed by a DAY OFF Friday.

What the hell? It's one thing to have the home opener be in such a shitty situation and lead to a predictable loss, but then having a day off the next day is stupid. It's not even like the attendance / gate receipts are going to be better Thurs than Fri night. I'm at a complete loss what the point of that was.

Today's entry in 'why would teams ever pitch to Mike Trout?'...

First two ABs today, he walked and got HBP, so TEX was staying away from him. Third time, he came up in a scoreless game with the bases loaded, so TEX had to pitch to him, and BAM! Grand slam, he is just ridiculous, OPS up to 1.516 now.

Most teams have an off day scheduled after the home opener in case the opener is rained out and needs to be rescheduled. The Yankees played in BAL on Thursday and had yesterday off similarly.
