Prayers and well wishes for Big Papi, and for a full and fast recovery. Thanks for all you do on and off the field.

so with all the security, high priced club, his entourage, and friends - he had to take a ride with a random dude in a truck to get to the hospital?
with friends like these, who needs enemies?

Truck Dude's got some family jewels to rival those he kept safe for Papi.

The guy who drove Papi is my friend's Dad, met him once - really genuine guy (also has the nicest car collection I've ever seen)

He was sitting at the table next David when the shooting happened and I believe his SUV was valeted right out outside which is why that was chosen instead of being taken by ambulance.

This is why I love this site after all these years. Thank you for sharing this information.

Wiscansin, by way of Attleboro
On a day which saw the Sox drop three out of four to the co-division leader and fall further into mediocrity, baseball found a fresh and familiar way to remind of how fragile the mortality of a life is let alone an at-bat or a season. What is and isn't life and death. This was the latter.

But it sounds like Papi fouled the latest toughest pitch off and is smacking together freshly spit on hands. The next pitch is going bridge and we're all walking home like it was '04...or '07...or... Stay strong Papi. Everyone is behind you. Literally everyone.

"Big Papi gets shot" is way down my hypothetical list of things that might happen today. It's like halfway down page nine, with page one consisting of North Korea bombs Japan, or US declares war on Iran.

I pray for his full recovery, and that we will get some laughs from him about this incident eventually.

Heard they have 3 suspects. Just saw a new video of who they are saying was the shooter.

I don’t think I could handle the video. Is there a reason the shooter only got a single shot off? Was there security that closed quickly?

That area of Santo Domingo is by no means a ghetto - there's a lot of very nice restaurants/hotels. When I visited, even as the only gringo within 100 miles I felt completely safe. Can't speak to that specific center but don't be imagining a tent with a stethoscope

Local press, just reported on words from David's brother to ESPN that he is out of surgery and recovering. Surgery went well, no major organs effected, expected to make full recovery.

Great news, all signs seem to be pointing to a full recovery. Can't wait to see the reaction he gets next time he shows up at Fenway.

Thought this was nice from Swihart:

Papi needs to stay in the states and have a concealed carry license.
Wouldn't have helped him in this case. He never saw it coming. Too bad his body guards weren't on the job (Apparently).

Besides David doesn't strike me as a gun carrying type of guy. Let the pros handle security.

so sick of the current state of affairs, existentially, right now.

read this thread from the beginning and am starting to experience some form of relief.

that said, the entire notion of this shit.../vomit.
