Carl Yastrzemski's grandson hit his 9th HR yesterday, a 12th inning walk off.
Remember when people were talking about his call-up as almost a charity act, that he wouldn't have gotten a chance with an organization that wasn't as inept and talent-starved as SF?

Yeah, sounds like he's gonna stick, at least for a few years. He's almost 29, so it's not like he's on track to be a HOFer like his grandfather, but an >.800 OPS as a rookie (of sorts) is pretty good even by OF standards.

He is the Daniel nava of the giants. Really not a terrible career
Could anyone explain why the Giants were so anxious to send him down before the Rockies series? I know the Giants needed extra pitching but was Baby Yaz the only player with options? If the front office was totally sold on him, wouldn't they have considered another player for demotion rather than Mike Yaztremski?

The Giants are currently doing a pretty smart thing (for a team with lots of call-ups) where they constantly shuttle players between AAA and the majors to maximize the number of rested relievers they have. Since series in Colorado usually chew up bullpens, I think he was seen as an extra guy they could send down for relief help and then bring back ASAP. But then Dickerson's back flared up and they needed Baby Yaz around.

Manuel Margot has been hitting the ball well lately and has salvaged his season.

Last 30 games: 104 PA, .284/.394/.545, .309 BAbip. 15bb/16k. 8 sb/0 cs. 9 doubles, 1 triple. 4 HRs. Now at .247/.322/.391 for the year.

First Red ever to homer twice in his first game with the team. The Reds also blew a seven run lead. Great American Ball Park giveth and Great American Ball Park taketh away.

I'm amazed that Lavarnway is still around but apparently he's played games in all seasons except 2016 after he was called up for a cup of coffee in 2011.

He has a 1.038 OPS in 5 games in Cincinnati. I think he's turned a corner.

Maybe a tad premature, but still good for him.

Actually he got DFAd a few days ago when their regular catchers came back, he cleared waivers and is back in AAA.

Craig Kimbrel, and his FIP of nearly 7 placed on the IL with a knee injury.

Easy to get on Dombrowski for not signing or trading for a closer, but Kimbrel certainly isn’t the answer to our woes.

Considering his second half and post season performance last year, I think it was a good idea to steer clear.

Former Paw Sox outfielder Chris Duncan died of brain cancer at age 38. He was the son of Dave Duncan and brother of Shelley. Obviously Chris was more known for his time with the Cardinals, where he was a part of their 2006 World Series team.

You may also recall that Duncan was who the Sox got back when they finally unloaded Julio Lugo, so he has a special place in Red Sox fan's memories as well.

The STL media put out some pretty moving obituaries for this guy. Based on what I've read, he was pretty widely liked by teammates but even more so by the fans of his radio work. Terrible story...

Kimbrel came in with a two run lead and gave up two homeruns on two pitches. His era is near 7.
His barrel % against is 21.2%. Joey Gallo leads the league for batters at 26.4%. Miguel Sano is second at 20.6%.

His 4-seam velocity is down to 96mph and he's grooving a ton right down the middle. Maybe you get away with that at 98-99. Not at 96.

How did I not notice Javy Guerra was converted into a RP and even pitched this year for the Padres in September? Yes, that Javy Guerra. Wow.

That would be something if he actually turned into something of value. I had completely written him off a long time ago.

There
I'm sorry this isn't news, but I just came across this word playing Scrabble:
KOJI:
(Cookery) a substance made from cooked rice or soya that is used to cause fermentation in the production of sake and Japanese foodstuffs such as soy sauce and miso.
Am I the last person in the world to know this?
I'm sure you are not. I didn't even know until a few years ago when a buddy started brewing sake. They are written differently in Japanese though FYI.

In other Japan ex-Sox news, Daisuke Matsuzaka is going back to where it all started for him, and will sign with the Seibu Lions.
