Given the accusations and negative media, I actually think he acquitted himself quite well. If that’s the AB we’re getting, praise Brady.

While I’ll concede that, FOR HIM, that is relatively okay, I was speaking more generally. I think that guy’s nuts and, while it may be commonplace, this preacher’s kid thinks the god shit at the end comes across as weird and disconnected from anything like actually being...grateful, I guess? - to an entity, to the universe, to whatever one believes in. Maybe I’m just extra critical of him, but I think AB is mentally off and it’s pretty sad.

Nothing says good Christian like judging someone else’s religious practices and beliefs.

I’m open to whatever religious beliefs and practices people want to have or not have. People can worship trees or no one or God or whatever. Apologies if I’m a bit dubious of the way it comes off in the video. It didn’t read as anything like sincere to me, or even anything all that religious, just a thing to say, empty words that read weird bc of the context, and not just.

I understand that. If my further explanation that it is a more general issue with what I've seen out of AB wasn't clear, I apologize. Let me be clear: I think he's entitled, immature, reckless, impulsive and comes across as crazy. If others don't, that's cool. It's jut how I see it. But I will concede that this particular video is relatively tame, compared to the bat-shit Hard Knocks stuff.

The video had two main purposes:
  1. Show how hard he works even after practice.
  2. He’s with Tom Brady.
The God stuff is how this is all part of the greater plan. It’s that he has something to prove and he’s trying to demonstrate that he’s doing it. That’s perhaps why it rings hollow with you-it’s not the main message here.

Everyone knows that God loves to show all the haters; as I’m sure you know, there is much scriptural support for this idea.

Have some people never paid attention to athletes’ SM? Posting a workout video is pretty par for the course, from your diva WR all the way down to the chick on your Facebook feed that’s selling protein shakes like she’s a Tupperware rep.

I don't think anyone here will disagree with the bolded. However, the video he posted does not really portray that. Like others said, the latest video is the least insane thing he's recently done.

I don't, but under the current circumstances, I watched this. It strikes me as both ridiculous and narcissistic and it also seems like in another life Antonio Brown could be the guy standing on the street corner with the placard telling me to atone for my sins.

It also strikes me as a bad sign that until that video I had no idea what the inside of the TB12 self-immolation studio actually looks like.

This would be way cooler. Especially if he, say, leaves Foxboro every afternoon to ride up into the woods of Maine with nothing but an axe and some overalls.

Don’t even need to go that far for a cabin in the woods. Middleborough is as much in the sticks as any place in Maine.

Assuming nothing changes regarding a criminal investigation, that seems to rule out the exempt list going forward.

My guess is that the league undertakes a cosmetic 1-2 month investigation, interviews both parties (to the extent they will cooperate given the ongoing civil matter), doesn't really figure anything meaningful out, but then gives Brown a 4-6 game suspension on the grounds of "This whole thing is making us look bad and maybe we'll look like we care about the issue if we suspend him for a while."

So Brown misses a chunk of the mid-late part of the season, possibly a big part of the tough stretch (CLE, @BAL, @PHI, DAL, @HOU, KC), but is back for the playoffs.

Yeah, I don't see a suspension when there's no criminal charge and no resolution in civil matter. No one buys the NFL's fake "caring".

Then again, that does not mean they are not dumb enough to do it.

NY Post with a hit piece quoting his "stepfather". https://nypost.com/2019/09/13/antonio-browns-stepdad-says-nfl-receiver-is-very-abusive-toward-women/

“As far as just raping somebody, (Brown) just feels like he can have whatever he wants,” Moss added. “He’s just empowered that way. So it doesn’t surprise me that this kind of allegation came out about him.”

Moss, 50, hasn’t spoken to Brown since 2005 and admitted the two had a strained relationship in his teenage years.

Here's the thing. He hasnt seen or spoken to him since 2005! Dude was 16 in 2005!!! How the hell does he know about how he treats women based on the way he acted when he was too young to even drive?

There's no link, but so everyone knows---that is not Randy Moss in that article.

He's playing, and I'll go so far to say that if he misses any games this season it won't be due to this civil suit.

I don't have anything to base that on but my gut feeling. There hasn't really been anything new since the initial story broke. I'm not saying the allegations don't have merit, but there's something...off about how this whole thing has really lost momentum with nothing new to add since Tuesday.

I assume AB is playing, too, but something Bill just said supports the opposite conclusion.

It was along the lines of Brown having “too much” ground to make up in only two practices.

Then again, he talked about limiting the game plan for Brown or any other new player, so who knows?

Waiting until the resolution of the civil case would be the judicious line to take, assuming the NFL investigation can't turn up anything. I'm not particularly confident in that though, given precedents like the Zeke matter. It feels like PR considerations are going to weigh heavily so maybe it will depend whether the Brown case stays in the news over the next month or two or whether it is quickly forgetten.

My assumption at this point, is that AB has learned about a handful of plays, so his playing time will be limited to what he and the coaching staff feels comfortable with, but he breaks the ice in Miami.

Even if that’s true, I find it hard to believe they can’t put him out there for a few plays designed for him in practice this week. When is the last time BB has neglected to play a new acquisition with anything close to his talent?

I don't agree with your first sentence. Based on the "make it up as it goes along" process that is Roger Goodell-imposed discipline, I could totally see the NFL putting Brown on the exempt list after he is interviewed next week, because at that point they will have met the bare minimum requirements laid out in the CBA for placing someone on the list.

Of course, there's no guarantee they do that either. And if they don't, then your scenario above seems at least as likely as anything else I can come up with

It's entirely possible he doesn't play Sunday for on-field reasons. BB sat a number of players acquired mid-season(Van Noy, Gordon are 2 examples)
Did Harrison play that first week? I think AB will probably play but it’ll be limited. Most of the 3 WR sets will likely remain Gordon/Jules/Dorsett. It actually works out pretty well that our schedule is so light to start the season. Plenty of time for him to get ready for the real meat of the schedule, assuming he’s still allowed to play.

There would seem to be some benefit in getting him on the field for at least a couple of snaps, if only for some designed looks like a rub route against man, a screen, etc., at game speed.

The biggest football issue is how much he’ll need to demonstrate he has absorbed in terms of the playbook and audibles/adjustments to get on the field.

He’s coming from an offense (PIT) that didn’t employ much pre snap motion or as many personnel groupings/alignments as a team like the Pats (or Rams, for ex), so I have to think that’ll be a big change to him, even if it’s a welcome one in that it might get him easier (if not as many) targets.

They don't need him this week and can't imagine he has more than a handful of plays he is comfortable with at this point. If Dorsett or Gordon goes down early would people rather see Myers or Brown out there? Not to mention Brown doesn't offer much in the run blocking game it what is likely to be a run heavy game plan given the injuries on the OL.
I think Brown is inactive come Sunday, for entirely on field issues.

For comparison:

View: https://twitter.com/Ryan_Spags/status/1172539825762836480?s=20

"With all signs pointiing to Antonio Brown playing Sunday, good to note Josh Gordon's snap count last year to start with NE:
Week 4: 18 (22%)
Week 5: 18 (26%)
Week 6: 63 (81%)
Week 7: 61 (95%)
Week 8: 64 (84%)
Wouldn't be surprised if they take a similar approach to AB #Patriots"

P. S. Gordon didn't play week 3.

It's useful as a data point, but it has to be noted that at the time he was acquired Gordon had played less than 3 full seasons worth of NFL games. Brown is one of the most prolific WRs in history (he had just one less TD reception last year than Gordon did in his entire Browns career) and well known for being one of the hardest workers in the NFL (whatever else he is, he's not lazy). I'm expecting him to get up to speed in this offense faster than Gordon.

Leaving the underlying allegations and evidence aside for the moment. If the Pats play without Brown this weekend and demolish Miami, in a warped way that makes it more comfortable for Goodell to put him on the exempt list since the Pats will have steamrolled to 2-0 with zero help from AB.

I am 100% certain the NFL will ry to determine the best thing for PR, not justice. Instead of seeing Roger as a dummie, I think deflategate was a masterful way of getting CTE off the front page. The longer it was in the news the better. He will decide on how polling and focus groups best determine to make the NFL look good. My prediction is he suspends him because the idea a guy is innocent of this type of stuff when accused is not popular, and sticking it to the Patriots is popular.

I’m not sure why team performance should matter in an individual discipline case. And putting my red, white and blue colored glasses on, the Pats needing AB could make him a bigger target for the league.

Obviously it's PR and not justice. The NFL is an entertainment business, not a legal justice system. But, doesn't your last sentence oppose your second? With Zeke, Hill, Hunt, etc. all in the news for violence, does Roger want to keep pushing that stuff into the media? If they just say they investigated and found no evidence either way won't it just fade away?

Not to rehash DFG, but it was also masterful in terms of giving him full authority to do whatever he wants under the personal conduct code or whatever it is called. The league knew what it was doing.

Suspending him for PR purposes is really a doubled edged sword. No one argues that if there is hard evidence of wrongdoing (rape or otherwise), there should be consequences appropriate to the scope of his actions. But suspending him without conclusive proof while there is a potential that this is extortion would open the door for other similar scenarios repeating themselves. Relationships gone bad, revenge via civil suits, and resulting suspension without firm proof? Can you imagine the leverage these people who were in past relationships with players would have over them? I fully favor throwing the book at him if he committed rape. But "innocent until proven guilty" is an important principle. Action prior to that creates precedent for chaos. Investigating takes time, but getting it right is the best PR approach.
