Why is Heitner talking to Klemko at all? Putting aside AB for a minute, I would be PISSED if my lawyer jumped at the first opportunity to disavow a text message.
Agreed. Heitner is like 34 years-old. AB is a moron for a lot of things, one of which is letting a relative novice try to navigate a situation that is about to effectively and maybe even literally end his career.

AB is toast and the hammer is coming.

Yeah, some irrational rich guy that I have a beef with is venting at me on a group message, and tells one of his boys to investigate me and includes a picture of my kids.

I'm not assuming his friends are rational either. I'm taking that as an implied threat.

Exactly. I imagine a large part of the reponse to this will tell you who has children and who doesn't.
I have kids, but the texts speak for themselves. He’s not threatening her kids. He shouldn’t be contacting this woman at all, but I’m not going to read into something beyond the plain words and clear meaning of the text because I have kids. What’s the correlation?

This is the part you quoted:
Brown also sent a screen shot of an Instagram photo of the woman’s children, adding that the woman is “awfully broke clearly
How isn’t it clear he’s using pics of all her kids to suggest she needs money to take care of them?

He’s still a moron for doing this, and I doubt he survives much longer. It might depend on if the NFL expressly asked him not to contact anyone involved.

Why this woman went to Klemko instead of, say, police, I don’t know. These two women seem to want his livelihood ruined more than anything.

How is not clear to you that by bringing her kids into it at all, in the context of a beef that has nothing to do with her kids, is intimidating? Whether it is a subtle threat of potential harm or a less subtle threat of harrassment, it is all potentially intimidating. The man saying these things is irrational.

I don't have kids, but for fucks sake including photos of her children in ANY fashion is completely beyond the pale of acceptable behavior. And easy for a male to say they are not threatening. We're not the ones being harassed by this very irrational actor.

Cut this fucker now. The Pats don’t need him and he’s seriously bad news. Regardless of whether he’s actually committed a crime, he’s doing serious damage to the Pats brand at this point.

This isn’t difficult and (virtually) everyone gets it. There is zero justification to put pictures of her kids in a text. He’s done.

The messages are stupid, ill advised and and menacing. But I think it's an overreaction to cut him over this or for the NFL to exempt him. IF she is making this up to pressure him or extort him, or is being opportunistic with her timing, then he is feeling cornered and is acting out. Again, it's incredibly ill advised, but I don't get the jump to get rid of him.

For one second make believe he’s not a Patriot and tell me you’d feel this way. He’s threatening people’s kids. Even if the story is fabricated that is way, way over the line. I honestly do not know why anyone would want this dude suiting up for the Pats on Sunday.

I'm a guy, and if someone sent me pictures of my kids in the course of an unrelated disagreement, I would take that as threatening and would respond appropriately.

Frankly, anyone defending him on this is out of their mind.

This entire episode illustrates why, was I the NFL leadership, I’d RUN to the table to negotiate away much of the scope of my quasi-law enforcement power with respect to players. They’re not equipped to deal with this shit, yet they’ve made themselves a legitimate tool for private disputes between players and, on the other side, individuals outside of the league’s reach.

It's the picture of the kids that gets me. I think he has to be cut now. I hope I'm overreacting, but I've been lying to myself about AB until now. I felt the scaffolding supporting my optimistic self-dishonesty fall to the ground when I saw the bit about the family photo. He's trash and a distraction. It's time.

The jump? Because this is as enjoyable as waterboarding. It’s torture and it’s sad.

Yes, exactly. Police should be dealing with this, and if this woman felt threatened, she should be going to them, not Sports fucking Illustrated to pressure the NFL.

I'm sure that everybody involved, from his friends, his attorney, the Patriots, the NFL, his agent, I'm sure that they all advised him not to communicate with any of his accusers. He did it anyways. Whether this is the straw that breaks the camel's back or not, it's clear that he will do whatever he wants. I find it hard to believe that he'd be able to keep himself in check for another four months.

What does that have to do with anything insofar as what the team or league should do about the behavior in question?

People seem to be overloking the fact that not everyone trusts the police, especially when it comes to famous / wealthy perpetrators.

What? IF she is making this up? Did you even read the article? Either of them?

Take off your Patriots glasses.

It was funny watching fans across the league react when they signed him.

Got less funny when the civil suit came out but I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

This isn't a jump, this shit isn't going to stop and he needs to go.

I don’t know if this makes people feel better or worse, but I think it’s a coin flip whether he’s on the team by the end of the day.
At this point the only question to me is if it’s NFL or Pats who make the move. Fully expecting Friday afternoon notification.

In terms of what? If the texts are authentic, and she takes it as a threat, police should be handling this, not Roger Goodell.
In terms of having this guy suit up and and wear a Patriots jersey on Sundays. I dont care what Goodell can or can’t do, I don’t want to root for him. They don’t need him and he’s a bad dude. Whether or not he’s a criminal is a matter for the courts. Whether or not he’s eligible to play is a matter for the league. Whether or not he’s a Patriot on Sunday is a matter for Bob Kraft and I hope he cuts his ass.

I think he’ll be gone today, as well, btw. This is just further evidence he can’t get out of his own way and cannot control himself. I still don’t think the NFL should be running internal investigations of this shit.

Oh ok. Yeah, it shouldn’t. Even if I don’t read it as a threat to the kids, I can see how others would and again it demonstrates the guy has no self-control and is a ticking time bomb for worse.

He just sent a picture of her kids as proof she's broke? Or did I miss the context. Maybe they are in ratty looking clothes. Maybe they are dirty. Maybe they are infront of the Dollar Tree. I don't know. If the text said something like "hey Eric B I bet these kids are reeeeal important to her" I'd see that as a threat. But this just shows he's an idiot

Well, the alternative here is Roger Goodell.
Goodell is AB's problem. But for the person that chose not to call the police, the information is now public, pressure is being brought to bear on AB (whether by the league or otherwise). Perhaps in the eyes of the victims, the alternative is the cops fellating Jameis Winston in Tallahssee.

I'm not convinced that AB intended to threaten her kids. He seems dim enough not understand how normal people operate.

I am 100% sure that he shouldn't have included pictures of her kids and that she has every right to be freaked the F out about it.

AB should be cut immediately.

Amen to this. The NFL should not be the arbiter of either civil or criminal cases. The Patriots should decide, as the relevant employer, what actions should be taken. That said - I cannot imagine why you would keep him on the team at this point. You have to know when to cut ties. That time is now. And I can’t see his signing with KC as a real worry. Right now this guy is as toxic as plutonium.

Every time I come in here I expect the thread title to be changed to "AB released" or "AB suspended." Today is the day, I suspect.

Or it was a picture of her 10 kids. AB seems to have a maturity issue though.

For those that are defending AB.... Why?

Where is your line in the sand where enough is enough?

He's been on the team for less than 2 weeks and some here are acting like he's a life long Patriot that deserves the benefit of the doubt.

I dont find it threatening or intimidating. I do find it painfully stupid, however. I think in his warped mind, he included lawyers and everyone on the chat so that it wouldn't seem like he was me trying to corner her or threaten her. Unfortunately, there's no fucking way her lawyer was going to take this lying down (obviously). Its also clear that Brown's rinky dink lawyer has zero control of his client.

This was a great opportunity for Brown. While this doesn't move the needle much for me - its one of the less reprehensible things hes done - if the reaction in this thread is representative of fans feelings, I think it may be the last straw for Brown. Oh well. Next man up.

Because I care a wins on the football field. Plain and simple. If this was a criminal case I would give a shit but its a civil case. Is the Patriots brand really going to be affected by this? No it won't. Was the Dallas Cowboys brand hurt by Greg Hardy or Zeke Elliot. Hell no.

Yeah it's time to move on. I do think there's a legitimate chance that he's just dumb enough that he didn't realize she was on the text chain or what he was doing by sending the picture, but ignorance doesn't exactly excuse it.

However, I am holding out hope that BB will find a way to trade him to the Jaguars for a 1st-round pick and Jalen Ramsey, who then gets moved to the Texans for DeAndre Hopkins. A boy can dream.

So AB saves texts messages from the doctor just in case things blow up, but then texts this to someone else? I

Per Klemko, didn't go to police because they weren't sure if the texts would be considered criminal. Went to Klemko and the NFL just to get this to stop.

She's never asked for any money.

She got paid for the mural, AB Stiffed the charity auction on the $700 painting.

So the forum in which a potential victim seeks redress should make a difference? That's a view I just don't understand when it comes to assesing what he's accused of. (You're probably right about the brand aspect, though).
