Because it is usually going over the pitchers head, while the infielder can come in on it. Also, the infielders spend a lot more time practicing fielding them.
Even when the ball comes right down at the rubber, he’s supposed to get out of the way and let an infielder get it. Every time I’ve seen a pitcher say “fuckit, I’m catching this one” though, he does.

I didn't understand giving Scherzer the start, given his performance since his return from the IL. Sentimentality isn't a good guide to managing the game.

Good lord, the team I'm rooting for just put Drew Pomeranz into pitch in the postseason.

Hold me.

What do you hate about the Brewers?
PEDs would help with that pain, Ryan.
And Selig.

And they beat out the Red Sox one year when I was 12 or something.

Lest anything think I’m just a chronic grump, my favorite teams outside of the Red Sox are the Nats and Reds, because the first year I was sentinent about baseball was the fall of ‘76 and they beat the Yankees and then they beat the f’ing early 90s LaRussa ‘roid-boys A’s, and the Cubs ‘cause they’re the NL’s Sox, and the Royals, also because I grew up rooting for them to beat the Yankees in the playoffs from 1977-79.

I had erased Pomeranz from memory. Huh,
Funny story--my ex-gf's last name is Pomeranz. Her kid is named Drew. I had also excised her from my mind. Until she texted me today.

So, yeah, today is weird af.

Why can't we get players like that?

No Romero, please don't trade for Drew to be our closer in 2020.

I gotta admit, the slow TBS bumper music and the "crazy youngsters" ad are triggering me...It's hitting me that the Sox aren't involved.

Wait, they're gonna give an AB to Dwew?

EDIT: "The Milwaukee Flamethrower"????

Question - I haven't seen the replays but the radio crew made it seem like Strasburg's ball four to Grisham was a bad call. If so, Mike Everitt may not make it out of DC alive tonight.

Grisham walked on two borderline pitches to start the game. they were framed poorly, but a robot ump may have rung him up. then maybe Grandal's HR doesn't happen...

stras looks dominant. gonna be a lot of second guessing if they lose this game

Thank you - the ESPN radio crew was pretty critical of those two pitches. Like I said, if the Nats lose this game, Mike Everitt may well receive some unwanted attention.

I thought when he last pitched for Boston, Pom was throwing like 91. Now he’s bringing it at 96+?
