It may end in a tieGruden had to do a 5 AM walk of shame. He had been Snyder’s longest tenured head coach. A lot of injuries for the team. Nonetheless an 0-5 start couldn’t happen to a nicer owner. Haskins will likely get more starts soon. Someone has to win next week’s Washington-Miami matchup.

They need a Parcells to New England moment. And the critical 2nd part: the lousy owner selling the team.I recognize there are only 32 NFL head coaching jobs. Even so, why would anyone with a realistic path to another one of those 32 ever take the Washington job? Not even Joe Gibbs could succeed there---Aren’t you basically left looking at guys willing to take a huge gamble?
There was also a video of him that circulated before the Pats game showing him smoking weed with a lady that was not his wife. While I don't think it matters, it makes a convenient excuse for them - they ran a similar smear campaign against Scot McCloughan. This will give Snyder ample time to find another lousy coach to hire. In all seriousness, firing him after losing to the Pats seems silly. *This* was the last straw?
It’s money related. Firing for cause. There was also a video of him that circulated before the Pats game showing him smoking weed with a lady that was not his wife. While I don't think it matters, it makes a convenient excuse for them - they ran a similar smear campaign against Scot McCloughan.
Joe was like 90 years old when he took that job and the game had changed about seven times over since he’d last coached. Not even Joe Gibbs could succeed there
I mean, not necessarily. How hilarious would it be to have the year finish with two 0-15-1 teams?Someone has to win next week’s Washington-Miami matchup.
Among the jobs likely to be open, I'd certainly pick the Falcons' first, or maybe second if the Texans can BO'B.Very disappointed that Dan Quinn didn't win the "first coach fired" sweepstakes. He's surely gone at the end of the year...and is it just me, or would the Falcons not be among the more attractive coaching openings this winter? A top 10 QB with quite a few years left, and plenty of talent on both sides of the ball (yes, even on defense) that simply isn't being used properly - that's certainly my persepctive, anyway. I'm hoping for Lincoln Riley or another smart offensive mind.
Cincinnati won’t cut bait after one season nor will the Jets. At least IMO.I mean, not necessarily. How hilarious would it be to have the year finish with two 0-15-1 teams?
edit: dammit OGG

Washington
Houston
Atlanta
Cincinnati
Carolina?
Jets?
The only two I'd consider "good ownership situations", defined by a lack of meddling or general incompetence, are Atlanta and Houston. Throw in Jacksonville if they fall apart and shitcan Marrone.
Yes, but this doesn't change the 'most desireable situation' rankings does it? Dallas has talent but remains a bad ownership/management situation.Cincinnati won’t cut bait after one season nor will the Jets. At least IMO.
The one to watch is Dallas. Any playoff one and done and Garrett is gone. Jones would give Lincoln Riley a blank check with his proclivity for the TX/OK/AR tri state area.
Garrett has been employed 8-9 years; and they are loaded with talent. Most anyone would jump at the Cowboys, Jones or not.Yes, but this doesn't change the 'most desireable situation' rankings does it? Dallas has talent but remains a bad ownership/management situation.
Depends. Blank might decide to clean house and dump Dimitroff along with Quinn and start all over.Very disappointed that Dan Quinn didn't win the "first coach fired" sweepstakes. Got a good chuckle out of that, so I had to look. The Skins are a 3.5 point favorite.Peter King notes that both the Dolphins and Washington are 16-point underdogs next week

Also, your unnecessary reminder that this is a classless organization top to, well, top:

The sad part here is that the team has (had?) some of the best fans in the NFL who really need Snyder to sell ... but he never will and the league will never force him to.
Agreed, with the caveat that Gibbs was the one who picked Brunell in an offseason where Kurt Warner was on the market. But he's still easily the best coach they've had since his first run.Gibbs did fine, imo. He made the playoffs twice with a zero at QB. The Redskins personnel department seems like it has been really bad for decades.
