BOSTON - Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced today, November 27, that the team has signed forwards Charlie Coyle and Chris Wagner to multi-year contract extensions.
Coyle has signed a six-year contract extension through the 2025-26 season with an annual NHL cap hit of $5.25 million.
Wagner has signed a three-year contract extension through the 2022-23 season with an annual NHL cap hit of $1.35 million.

Coyle's number is a bit high but I can live with it and Wagner's is great.

I know there were some early question marks but Sweeney has been so good. It’s easy enough to just re-sign everyone Chia style but he has nailed the money on these extensions and you have to assume that the room is just great all around to foster this environment where guys are happy to sign early for fair value, if not bargains.

Coyle for Donato is now looking even more like a master stroke.

Fantastic deal on Coyle. I guess this thing of rooting for 3 Terriers is going to be long term

Good work by Sweeney, he’s definitely among the best at signing his own players.

Wasn’t too enthused with Wagner, but they basically gave him 3-years with essentially no raise so that’s fine.

I’m onboard with the Coyle deal. I was really nervous about 6M+ per year and I know in the other thread I mentioned 4.75M/yr as my high water mark, but 5.25M is within spitting distance. I can live with that, and I’m stoked to see how Coyle can grow with some consistency in coaching and surrounding talent.

This shows you can't underestimate the effect of having a solid culture and focusing on locker room fit. Sweeney gets the credit for getting these deals done, but Bergy and Chara deserve solid stick taps for fostering a locker room that is probably second to none in the NHL. They just need to make that magic work with Krug so he's willing to trade a few dollars in order to stay in a place where it's fun to play.

Love it. I think Coyle’s style of game will hold up over the term, and perhaps make this even a slight bargain In the end. He’ll bridge Krecji and maybe even Bergy and provides reliability.

Wagner strikes me as having a similar impact as Shawn Thornton. Not a pugilist, but also a reliable presence in the lineup with some leadership cred in the room.

This was my takeaway too, it speaks volumes about that room and the leadership of Z & Bergy. Means when Z signs another short-term deal for cheap money, he will still be well worth that deal.

Nice job by Sweeney. Coyle was a good addition and is a nice player. Wagner is a good piece on the 4th line.

Couple long term notes on these deals, particularly on the Seattle expansion draft.

- Coyle has NMC, modified NTC for the full range of the deal. 10 team no-trade through 2022, 8 team no trade to 25, then 3 team no trade in the last year. NMC means he has to be protected in then Seattle expansion draft. They have room for that, no biggie.

- On Wagner’s side of things, the 3rd year gives them a player under contract that they can expose in the draft which is a requirement. Currently the only F’s under contract for 21/22 are Bergeron, Marchand, Pastrnak and Coyle. All 4 of them will be protected. Too early to tell if they go 7-3 or 4-4, but at least they’ll have Wagner to expose.
