Isn't that a reflection of management? It may very well be that there are malcontents on the roster (hello Trysten Hill) but this team didn't go from fighting tooth and nail in every game to becoming roadkill without some external pressure involved.Firing Garrett is a necessity, but I'll be honest, I think this roster is absolutely loaded with bums that do nothing but read and hear about how "talented" they are from management and the media and then go out and soil themselves on the field.
Philly was playing a bunch of nobodies yesterday at WR and a bunch of nobodies and Malcolm Jenkins in the secondary and kicked Dallas's lame ass from start to finish - they played harder, they wanted it more, they looked like they were there to play a football game and Dallas wasn't. They've got Fletcher Cox out there making plays with one working elbow and Dallas has their best players begging off the field at key times, either by their own volition or by the coaching staff. Right now, this entire franchise and organization can go fuck itself.
If I were a Cowboys fan, I'd be more worried that Jerry wants to hear from players before making the decisionThe fact that Garrett hasn't been fired yet is starting to worry me.
That should be completely unnecessary to anyone paying attention. Their message was heard loud and clear. If I were a Cowboys fan, I'd be more worried that Jerry wants to hear from players before making the decision
He’s not coming backThat should be completely unnecessary to anyone paying attention. Their message was heard loud and clear.
He shouldn't. Which is why the delay is concerning. I get that you don't want to be the first to arrive at the dance but you certainly don't want to be the last. Other teams are already working on whittling down the limited pool of NFL head coaching candidates, some of which are far more attractive landing spots than Dallas. If replacing Jason Garrett is going to be done right (far from a certainty with this organization), any delay is going to make that more difficult. He was left a lame duck coach for a reason so I don't understand why the bandage hasn't already been ripped off. He’s not coming back

I'm not ready to hit the panic button just yet but if he isn't let go - or whatever euphemism is preferred - by the end of the day, I'll be left with only one logical conclusion: he's coming back.
In this coaching discussion, aren't we effectively treating both point differential and DVOA here as equivalent to Pyth W-L record for a baseball team, in a case where we believe that poor management/coaching has depressed the team's actual W-L record? This time, both DVOA and point differential imply that the Cowboys should have been much better than a 8-8 team, but the theory is that Garrett is a significant part of the reason why they severely underperformed.Isn't the whole reason we quote point differentials that it's more strongly suggestive of the team's actual strength than mere W-L record, which has a ton of noise given that it's just 16 data points?
Dallas was 6th in DVOA (8th in weighted); you have to go down to the #14 team, TB, before you find the next team with a record as bad or worse than Dallas'. Between DVOA and W-L record, which is likelier signal and which is likelier noise?
That's intriguing.I've always been convinced that Jerry Jones looks at Jason Garrett and literally sees a younger version of himself, which is why it's so hard for Jerry to pull the trigger on firing him.
I would agree that the point differential and metrics like DVOA and EPA suggest that the Cowboys were a lot better than their 8-8 record and that it was likely majority luck....and not Garrett. HOWEVER....at least some of it was Garrett and they narrowly missed out on the division. So there's a good case to be made that he cost them the division. The way they came out in that Eagles game two weeks ago was basically unforgivable. That alone was probably a fireable offense.Isn't the whole reason we quote point differentials that it's more strongly suggestive of the team's actual strength than mere W-L record, which has a ton of noise given that it's just 16 data points?

I think he has kompromat. He looks like the kinda dude who would sit in a corner and surreptitiously take pictures of Jones doing dirty things with hookers and drugs.I've always been convinced that Jerry Jones looks at Jason Garrett and literally sees a younger version of himself, which is why it's so hard for Jerry to pull the trigger on firing him.
A buddy of mine has long theorized that Garrett has proof regarding some kind of Me Too incident involving Jerruh. I'm starting to think he might be onto something.I think he has kompromat. What coaching candidate would want Garrett around at all? Would just be weird. Nobody wants the ex around even if they’re friendly. This Garrett thing is weird. He's either coming back as head coach or moving into some type of GM role I have to think. I hope he's coach so I can watch my FB feed burn.
So Jerry just drags things out until all other head coach jobs are filled, then he fires Garrett? You might have something there.Perhaps he knows he has to fire him but it worries him that Garrett might go to some other team and do well.
If they cared about him, they’d let him go ASAP so that he can try for some of these other opportunities.
Garrett definitely has pics.
DefinitelyGarrett definitely has pics.
In fact, didn’t some pics of Jerry come out a couple years ago when he was sabre rattling against the NFL? Drugs and young (legal aged) women or something?
From the ESPN article on this...According to the internets JG is out.
Who’s up next?
Garrett - mehOnce the parting becomes official, the Cowboys will begin their first full-blown coaching search since Bill Parcells' retirement following the 2006 season. Before hiring Wade Phillips ahead of the 2007 season, the Cowboys cast a wide net in their interview process that included Garrett, Norv Turner, Mike Singletary, Jim Caldwell, Ron Rivera, Todd Bowles, Todd Haley and Tony Sparano.
Norv wasn’t too bad. Pats had a great comeback against him otherwise that Chargers team might have won it (2006/2007 season?)From the ESPN article on this...
Garrett - meh
Turner - failure as HC, was a decent OC for a while
Singletary - LOL can you imagine someone considering him in retrospect?
Caldwell - :|
Rivera - pretty decent, but will get screwed by Snyder
Bowles - failure as HC, decent coordinator
Haley - probably will never get a shot at this point
Sparano - ugh
So, sadly, the only one they really missed out on was Rivera. Garrett is arguably the 2nd best on this list. Oof!
Lol at Eric Mangini never ever getting another sniff. I hope he’s crying himself to sleep watching his little Sopranos cameo again. Snitch. From the ESPN article on this...

Cleveland should have never fired him. I thought Eric the Rat was a decent coachLol at Eric Mangini never ever getting another sniff. I hope he’s crying himself to sleep watching his little Sopranos cameo again. Snitch.
Mangini is Sollozo. Some trumped up pimp who came for the king, missed, and is now dead.
Haley did get a shot - he was 19-26 as KC HC from 2009-2011.From the ESPN article on this...
