https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/02/17/why-the-giants-told-aubrey-huff-hes-not-welcome-at-2010-world-series-reunion/
“Earlier this month, we reached out to Aubrey Huff to let him know that he will not be included in the upcoming 2010 World Series Championship reunion,” the Giants said in a statement. “Aubrey has made multiple comments on social media that are unacceptable and run counter to the values of our organization. While we appreciate the many contributions that Aubrey made to the 2010 championship season, we stand by our decision.”

Multiple sources have indicated that Huff’s political posts that include fierce support for President Donald Trump did not influence the team’s decision to keep the former first baseman away from the reunion. Instead, the Giants perceived many of Huff’s posts as misogynistic, derogatory and offensive and concluded that those views are in opposition to what the organization stands for.
I am sure Twitter will handle this news well.

Huff makes Schilling look like Maya Angelou. He advocated for bringing (kidnapping) Muslim women to America to feed him grapes. Far right, gun toting, nut job.

Yikes. That Twitter is something else. People who are that fanatic have something wrong. That is not a political statement because it applies to people on all ends of the spectrum. The dude made around $50M in his baseball career. That's supposed to buy you a retirement full of "chill the fuck out and enjoy life - you won".

This is the right call. Huff is a horrible person and proves it daily on Twitter. The Muslim woman comment was just the tip of the iceberg.

I think I saw somewhere (maybe even on SoSH) that he was relatively harmless on Twitter (just a little overly political and Pro-Trump) and then how wife left him and....BOOM

I miss the good old days when somebody like this could be a harmless crank in the privacy of his own home instead of having a platform to get together with all the other formerly harmless cranks out there.

His views are shitty but I don't see how you could have a reunion of that team without him.
By not inviting him.

He also shit on the *current* management and ownership of the Giants for hiring a woman to coach. Those aren't just "shitty views," that's insulting the host and expecting to be invited to the party.
They should invite his ex-wife.

That was his own explanation. His wife left him and he said he figured he didn't have to hold back any more, so he spouts this horrible shit.

He and Schilling should be locked in a room together. Seems like they'd enjoy each others' company. What a fucking asshole.

Then don't have the reunion. Reunions are overrated and overdone. Huff is an asshole but you really can't discount his contributions to the 2010 title. It's like with the 2004 and 2007 Sox "reunions". You can't have those without Schilling. Schilling has said horrible things so the best course of action is to acknowledge the team but not have a "reunion". It's probably not going to be a popular take on here or win many friends.

Fine, it’s not a reunion. Call it the “Gathering of the 2010 World Champion Giants (Sans Aubrey Huff)” and let everyone enjoy themselves without that asshole.

So your line of thinking here, is if they can't invite the great Aubrey Huff, they shouldn't have a reunion at all?

Sound reasoning and judgement there. The guy had a good year, a career year, but he wasn't the sole reason they won

Was Aubrey Huff really that integral a part of the 2010 championship? I know the comparisons to Schilling are due to both being right-wing wack-a-doos, but their contributions to their respective championship teams aren't so comparable. Huff did lead the team in HR and WAR, but if you were to ask me to name five players from that squad, he wouldn't even cross my mind. That team won on the strength of the pitching.

If he's an asshole who no one wants around, why call off the whole thing on his account? Fuck him.

Would they have won without him? Probably not. His views are horrible and he should not be allowed to go. But these "reunions" are lame attempts at fan service. When you go down that road you can't gloss over a guy who was perhaps the best hitter on your team that year. It's as pointless as not having Pete Rose there for those Big Red Machine reunions for x amount of years. I understand its a different issue with him being banned but the same type of stuff. Why bother having it? I puke at the mere mention of Schilling as a member of the 2004 and 2007 Sox but you can't erase him from the history of the team even though we all would like to.

Then have the reunion at a bar or a social club sponsored by the team. I don't have answers on what they should do. It's just hokey. Unless if you're a family member of Brandon Medders. It's a way for the fringe guys to wave to the fans and get another ovation.

WTF is wrong with that? Flags fly forever. The Giants may need some help getting butts in the seats. Give the fans some sentimental moments.

Canceling something that is fun for both fans and former players because Aubrey Huff is a Grade A piece of shit would only serve to enable more people to act like Aubrey Huff.

These things are cool events, that mean something to a lot of people, even if you could just wave it off and say cancel it. And, yes, I would be 100% okay with Schilling not being invited for a Red Sox event.

If they invited him and he chose not to come should they cancel it? I realize that's not your point, but it does demonstrate that they can in fact have a reunion without him.
I just honestly hate these things as a whole. I understand the point is very "Felger like". You can have a reunion with 4 people if you want. It doesn't mean that it's going to mean the same as having the entire team.

Spoiler: MLB's entire business model is fan service.

Fans root for the laundry to win championships. Fans are literally a fan of the baseball-team-winning-championships business. In that business the Giants determined that more of their fans root for the laundry and for the 2010 Championship than they would for one season of Aubrey Huff.

The members of the Aubrey Huff Fan Club always has his Twitter to cherish, or can honor him by purchasing an Aubrey Huff bobblehead on Ebay.

So basically reunions shouldn't happen because you personally don't like them.

Not dead. But like knicked up. Minor inconvenience. Just wanted to point that out.

So you wouldn't marry a person of a different race or religion because your only uncle is a batshit bigot who has expressed his dislike for the particular race or religion of your soon to be spouse and you dont want him there?
Your last sentence speaks volumes. Only it speaks to what this issue is *not* about.

I'll offer this,. It's well known that Huff wasn't invited so I'm sure there will be very few there (if any) who will be unaware of that. Armed with that information it will be totally up to them (them being members of the '10 Giants team, staff, employees and/or fans) to decide whether or not they want to take part in something that you deem as being lessened in someway. They'll either decline to attend for whatever reason, attend it out of a sense of obligation or be there because they look forward to reveling in celebrating something important to them.

Haha so now I'm a racist because I don't like reunions? Jesus Christ. Fine raise the foam fingers. Reunions for all! I never once defended Huff or his batshit views.

If Aubrey Huff was dead would it be ok to have the reunion? Or should reunions only happen when everyone is still alive? So the Lakers can't have any reunions from 1996-2016?

Also, no one called you a racist.

I'm not sure how you got that from a post that starts with "......you're going to marry a person of a different race or religion...and you dont want your batshit racist uncle there...", but knock yourself out.

I was applying the logic you seem to be using about the Huff situation ("no reunions if there's an important guy you 'can't' invite for some reason") to a different situation in an attempt to point out why I think your Huff reasoning is off base.

I mean why should they? If you want to have a little video tribute and Phil Jackson wheel out the trophy that's up to you. If its a tribute to a certain player then its a completely different situation. I'll take the Kobe tributes all day long over celebrating Ramiro Mendoza for his "role" in winning a title for the Sox. But if you're going to do a tribute you need the entire team. Unfortunately for 2010, the best hitter on the team happened to also be a racist dickhead. Pretty much screw him and Schilling. But it cheapens the "reunion" when key players are missing. 1946 Red Sox reunion a while back after Ted Williams died wasn't the same as it would have been if Ted was alive. Again, logic dictates that if you go back that far not many people are going to be alive. Group them into a tribute to Red Sox legends. Roll them out on duck boats onto the field, I don't particularly care. But if you're going to say these are the 2004 World Series champions and not invite Schilling or these are the 2010 champions and not invite their best hitter it cheapens an already cheap event.

You haven't defended Huff's views, but you have very clearly (in several posts) defended Huff. Saying there shouldn't be a reunion without him and criticizing The Giants for not inviting him demonstrates support (defense) that he should have been invited. Not trying to beat a dead horse, but if you keep trying to explain a point that we disagree on but want us to accept, we're going to keep responding.

By saying that a reunion shouldn't happen without an entire team being present and calling the event cheap regardless of him showing up is defending Huff? I've also said that the Lakers shouldn't have reunions from their Kobe teams and the Sox shouldn't have reunions for their Schilling teams. I think I've been fairly consistent on this point. Its not just Huff its reunions in general.

The former yes, the latter, no. As per this discussion Kobe and Schilling mean nothing to me. I get that you don't like reunions, but you took a stand concerning Huff.

Your initial post was "can't have a reunion without him."

Then again, I was getting sick of reading all those stories about "reunions" of participants in Operation Overlord.

You've used "Felger-like," "won't win many friends" and "not a popular take." I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that you don't believe what you're writing either.

You can't. Just like you can't have a legitimate reunion without Schilling or Kobe or (insert athlete here). As for the other point, why the hell wouldn't I believe it if I wrote it? I'm not sure what I would get out of trolling a message board. Reunions are the cheapest cash grab out of all fan service. It only cheapens it further when you don't have the entire team there. So you're celebrating the accomplishment? Cool. Why not have a couple of key players out there and a 60 second tribute and move on. It's much better than inviting the team and branding it as a team reunion. It's hokey. Very hokey. We get to see Ramiro Mendoza and BK Kim for 15 minutes. Yay!!! Heck, invite Ellis Burks too. He got like 20 at bats for the team. Sweet!

So the 20 year high school reunion I didn't find out about until a week after it happened wasn't legitimate since I wasn't invited. I feel so vindicated now. Thank you, that's been weighing on my mind for the last three years.

I don't know, but you are trolling. I mean you are REALLY trolling. Asshole.

We have discovered that you are indeed a known member using a new lurker account to do whatever bullshit it is you're doing. So anyway, you're toast as ACFR, and you've got a very small window to contact one of the Dopes to explain why you did this and why your member account shouldn't be outed and banned for good, including an IP ban.

Probably won't save you, but we're curious....

Okay, now there's a twist I didn't see coming
I got to post 25 and was just about to move on, when I read "So isn't Schilling." And I decided to keep reading on just for the unconventional use of "isn't." It's a very specific and regional usage that made me a bit nostalgic and I was sort of wondering whether there would be a comment on it.

Instead, jackpot!
