Bucs: TB12 in TB20 - How Far Do They Go?

Assuming the 2020 season is actually played, how far do you think the TB12 led Bucs will go?

  • Win SB

  • Play in SB

  • Make it to the NFCCG

  • Make playoffs

  • Contend but no playoffs (~6-8 wins)

  • Blow chunks (<6 wins)

Evans, Godwin, Perriman, OJ Howard and Brate. Odds someone like Devonta Freeman ends up there? Dudes aiming for 60 TDs.

Esp if Giselle starts getting hgh delivered to the casa.

So Chris Godwin has made less than $2 million in his career.

I know he is going to want to get off on the right foot with his new quarterback. But it seems to me that if you have a player coming in who is going to take your number and that player's family net worth is probably 200 times yours and he has another umpteen millions in goodwill associated with trademarks and trade names that have your number in them . . .

Just saying that Godwin is in pretty good bargaining position.

Maybe this is Brady's last hurrah. A chance to do it differently. AB will join the crew. TB12 will be good for the first few weeks, then start taking all the PEDs he wants... lines of blow... partying with strippers and breathing fire all the way to SB#7.

I am pretty sure that Tampa isn't thinking much about 2021. If they win a playoff game this year that is a great great great signing. The last playoff game they won was the Super Bowl.

Dynasties usually end because of egos, not age or personal losses. In the end, BB couldn’t just give Brady a reasurance that he was valued and respected. A simple phone call and this could have all been avoided.

If value & respect to Brady = 3-year contract, it wan't happening with the Pats.

The first two months of the season here are absolutely brutal. 1 pm games in September are a matter of survival. 90° with 75° dew point. It will be interesting to see how he handles the Florida sauna at age 43.

Yes, but Brady could have also handled it differently as well. There's a lot of contrast between how Drew Brees handled this and Tom Brady handled it. It seems like Brady was really trying to use the threat of going to another team to get Bill to show him some love, and I'd think he should know that's not how to get BB's respect. At the end of the day, it was a break-up between two very proud men who probably would have been better off together than apart.

Brady wasn't particularly good last year. Maybe it was his supporting cast but there's also a good chance a 42 year old going on 43 just isn't that good anymore.

That’s laughable. What a weird narrative.
I can buy it.

With how this has all played out, it becomes increasingly difficult to brush aside the stories of things not always being so hunky dory between Brady and Belichick. I could see Brady feeling like the pupil had become the equal of the master, so to speak, and Belichick never quite reciprocated.

Brady was like the guy who started as an intern and had worked his way up to C-suite exec, only the CEO continued treating him mostly the same way that he did when he was an intern. To Belichick, that was a feature and not a bug. For Brady, it was probably annoying.

I don't believe this narrative for a second. I wouldn't be totally shocked to know that this is a narrative that Brady wants out there to deal with the fact that millions of fans are bummed. But if he's really spreading this message - and to be clear I don't think he really is -- it's a very wishy washy fig leaf that seems not even to cover what it's supposed to cover.

He wouldn't say nice words to me? Bullshit.

The one part of this that does ring a bit true based on what we know about Belichick is that I wouldn't he surprised if he was a bit surprised at Brady's priorities. Bill knows they are Lennon and McCartney and I can see his football mind being somewhat surprised that Brady doesn't see it that way either and would actually break the band up. But "I just need a fuzzy phone call"? Bullshit. Kraft called him his son.

He wanted a contract that would commit the Pats to him for several years, and the Pats wouldn’t give him that.

Is Bill tough to play for? Yes. But he’s been tough to play for for twenty years.

Well, his son like Jonathon or like David?

where I was last at
I don't blame anyone, TB12 wanted respect that was earned, and didn't want to grovel for his last contract, (and i don't blame him) BB probably didn't want a 43 YO QB eating up cap space for 2-3 years (don't blame him either) Kraft wanted a happy ending, but didn't intercede this time, as maybe he understood it was time to cut the chord..

It was a perfect storm of big egos not aligned as they had been in the past.

I think the way it played out, at least for next year, is probably lose/lose/lose, as no one will achieve an optimal result.

Bernie Kosar and/or Drew Bledsoe, (not to mention Logan Mankins, Richard Seymour, and Lawyer Milloy) could have told TB that BB would have zero sentimentality when it comes to the end of a career.
Yup. Maybe "no respect" translates to "BB even broaching the idea that if Brady's play or ability fell off a cliff this season that he would have to visualize transitioning to being veteran leadership in a backup role" and Brady won't consider that.

Good luck Tom going from the 5/9th best OL (P/R) to the 22/23rd

https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/nfl/offensive-line/2019
"With the 14th pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Tampa Bay Bucs select...Andrew Thomas, OL (LT), University of Georgia"
"With the 45th pick, the Tampa Bay Bucs select...JK Dobbins, RB, Ohio State"
https://thepewterplank.com/2020/03/13/buccaneers-7-round-2020-mock-draft-compensatory-pick/

Who knows what will happen? This has to be a fun time for the Bucs and their fans. Going all in. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do for/with Tom.

Do we really think a nice phone call from either side would have changed things?

They mutually agreed, effectively, to part ways. Its nice to hot take blame but we really don't know about the inner workings of the Brady/BB relationship (unless some of you are on either of their inside circles). But it was time to move on for both sides, even if we want our parents to stay together for the kids.

Sorry, I quoted you but I was mostly responding to Lazar's implication in the tweets that generated this discussion.

TB is ditching the ugly alarm clock number-style uniforms. Thank God for that.

I lost my job on Monday due to this virus mayhem. But this feels like the bigger gut punch of the two.

BB’s ego got in the way of this. Brady should’ve been afforded the opportunity to retire a Patriot.

Belichick is going to be gone in 2 or 3 years. THE RUN WAS FUCKING ENDING IF NOT ALREADY OVER. Who gives a shit how BB leaves the franchise? I truly don’t. However lengthy a rebuild was going to be, shoving Brady unceremoniously out the door isn’t going to make me feel happy when the team is back to being good in 2023 instead of 2024.
