The whistled S thing DOB does just drives me absolutely bonkers. I hate whoever it was that pointed it out to me because I can't hear anything else when I hear him speak now.
I have to adjust the audio treble and midrange down, DOB's voice literally gives me a headache. Or I just mute it. Or switch over to Spanish.

I miss Ned Martin.

Thanks for the warning. He's absolutely the worst announcer the Sox ever had.
Holy hot take Batman! I love the juxtaposition of this and a few posts up talking about DOB's whistle and people muting the tv.

I personally loved when Don called sox games. His enjoyment with Remy made me enjoy the entire broadcast more.

Kinda makes me hope there will be a Remy appearance somehow, maybe just a wave from off-screen. I hope he's doing as ok as he can be doing.
Since it's a national broadcast, I doubt Remy will even come up. But as it is the final weekend of the season, maybe Remy will show up on a NESN telecast to say hi.

It'd probably be asking too much of the NESN crew to have DO appear with him. Or in any capacity at all.

Yeah, I know. Still, a girl can hope for some freaking decency in this world, can't she? I have to think Remy is going to be really happy to see Don, assuming he (Rem) can get there. It'd be nice to acknowledge that when the guy is going though another really tough time.

I went down the rabbit hole and this still gives me feels. What a genuine guy.

That said, it still doesn't top the pizza throw or boob grab incident. I'm not sure those will ever be touched.

That’s a great clip, thanks for sharing it. He really was a perfect match for the Sox.

Remy was in Worcester for the WooSox welcome party a week or two ago along with Pedro and a bunch of old timers. From the footage he looked better than I would have expected though clearly tired.

Yes! Thanks! I knew I saw that he was at some event, but could not remember which one, and then wondered if I was just making it up in my head. Maybe he'll make it to the Fens for the last of the regular season.

I miss Don. Did we ever get him, Remy and Eck in the booth for a full game? That would have been a dream team.

Apologies for the random thread bump, but as a recent San Diego transplant (2015), we watch pretty much every Padres game on TV that we're not actually at, and Don has been fantastic this season. He's really hitting his stride with the team now relevant for the first time since he's been here. But he's still Don, and Mark Grant is the PERFECT partner for him. Younger than Remy, and just a big goofy lab that let's Don be Don. They had a bee delay last Sunday and Don was in rare form describing it. I think he's having the time of his life.

Someone posted the bee delay video which was fascinating in and of itself. Orsillo's commentary made it that much better.

San Diego games appear (for unknown reasons) on Hawaii cable TV, so I hear the occasionally echo of Orsillo's decade with the Red Sox. His voice has changed a bit since his Boston days. It is a little deeper now and not quite as jovial. Still, he sounds like an old friend.

I agree he does sound different. There was a game on MLBN and I kept talking myself into thinking it was him, and then that it wasn’t, and back and forth. The way he kept saying the number five just didn’t sound like him, but then I’d hear some of the stuff he’s always said.

The Padres have actually been showing an MLB The Show game every Friday evening on Twitch and Youtube (and maybe others) called live by Don and Mud, and it's been great, under the circumstances. On one hand, they're doing a real game call (remotely from their homes, of course)--on the other they're not afraid to see virtual Kirby Yates and yell "That looks just like him!" They comment on some of the same things they might comment on in a real game (a virtual fan behind home plate who somehow had a new concession item every inning) and some that are perhaps unique to the format (Mud fell asleep for a half inning on camera this past Friday). I enjoy it.
