where I was last at
Given the history of sports franchise value appreciation any perceived weakness in the market due to covid-19, (hopefully a short-lived problem) which might limit bidders and competition, might result in a decent time to buy.

Happy for KG if this is his dream, but this seems like an inauspicious time to invest in a pro sports franchise.
Hard disagree. The real value of pro sports is as television programming. Fans in the stands are gravy.

That’s where most of the revenue growth has come from in recent years, but current rights fees are dependent upon broadcast networks and major cable networks continuing to buy broadcast rights as loss leaders. I don’t think that’s sustainable, and I certainly don’t think those rights will continue to appreciate in value at the rate they have in recent years.

That said, buying a sports franchise is a lot more like buying a Picasso than it is like investing in a conventional business. The risk of COVID isn’t that it will hurt the business fundamentals of professional sports — franchise values have been unmoored from those fundamentals for a very long time. Rather, the risk is that the near-term struggles that COVID causes will make billionaires rethink the wisdom of buying into these franchises at valuations that have no logical connection to conventional measures of value.

With Amazon, Netflix, Disney+, Peacock and others floating around, I strongly believe rights fees are going up, not down.

And I also believe there will be way more than 32 rich people happy to pay ungodly amounts to own an NBA team pretty much no matter what happens with Covid.

Additionally, there is going to be a much more robust market for NBA LP interests soon, which should help to attract more money and help to drive up franchise values.

Wolve?

I love KG's affinity for Minnesota - it has been a consistent theme since he was a kid. I tend to pedestal people, but Garnett seems like a genuine, not full-of-shit dude. I appreciate that more and more as I get older.

And I have no idea what a Timberwolve is. But saying Timberwolfs cracks me up so there is that.

Christ, anything to resuscitate that moribund franchise.

I live in Minneapolis and I often forget that we have a pro basketball team.
