Thank you Brock Holt (signs with Brewers, now with Nats, got 1 AB at Fenway on 8/29)

I’ll take him.
Yeah, I don't think he's part of the future of the club, but he's one of those guys who could benefit the team just by being in the clubhouse (sadly, COVID rules would prevent the return of the Brock-JD HR hugs). And that's not even considering his ties to the community and the Jimmy Fund.

If they can fit him in without having to give up anyone of use/value, he'd be welcomed back.

I realize he's had a down year (in 30 AB), but unless he's injured I'd have to think that there will be a long list of contending teams interested in him.

EDIT: And you'd have to think that he'd rather play for a contender than watch AA has-beens throw batting practice every game.

He is going to come back to the Sox isn’t he?
Here's the thing: If the Sox manage to trade Pillar/ JBJ, we really don't have another major league outfielder on the 60-man. If healthy, he could serve as a pretty good corner OF/ lead-off guy and make a bunch of SoSH'ers happy.

We are literally playing out the string here with little or no hopes of any Post Season play. This would go a long way to exciting the fan base.

Bring him home.

He signed with the Brewers on February 21, which doesn't really indicate he had a lot of free agent interest. Given the lack of interest in him then, and the way he's played thus far, could his list of suitors really have grown? As long as he clears waivers, he'll cost next to nothing, so I suppose there might be teams ready to add him, but I can't imagine there will be significant competition for him.

His wife is pregnant and home in Boston. Returning to the Sox might be a sentimental choice for both he and the team. Hell, he might decide not to sign anywhere and instead stay home for the rest of the season.

I guess I'll stand alone--if the team is going nowhere, I'd rather not bring in 32 year old utility guy.

He was batting .100. Was he injured? If he gets waived I'd like to see him back. We might need an outfielder if Pillar and JBJ leave. Or first if Moreland and JDM leave. Or short if Bogaerts leaves. Or third if Devers leaves. Can he pitch?

You’re not alone but I just didn’t have the heart to say it out loud.

Lol. Brock is a great guy with a big heart and we need more of those. To do what I don't know. Plus why should he want to be part of this epic fail of a season? I'm sure the Jimmy Fund kids would be happy to see him.

He can replace Lin who looks like a guy that has no future with the team ever. At least Peraza was good 2 years ago.

If they brought Holt back it would be basically be for the role of goodwill ambassador/onfield mascot.

But this season sucks so bad, I would actually approve of adding a goodwill ambassador/onfield mascot.

Was at Papi's last NL game, which was in San Diego and he wasn't in the lineup. Brock came up late in the game and the mostly Sox crowd was chanting very loudly "we want Papi". We got no Papi. Instead, Brock proceeded to crush a shot over the right field fence. That was cool.

Thank you BROCKHOLT! For everything.

Mookie gone, no attempt to keep a guy who meant so much to the community, Cora Apple Watch garbage, Brasier and Pillar spouting off with racial insensitivity to which the team can’t even be bothered to give lip service

I guess the fact that the team stinks and it is a make believe year makes it easy to say but they are reeling right now and my support for the franchise feels a bit tenuous.

I never imagined that possible. They are in my blood. But I feel my perspective is changing in light of recent world events.

If the Red Sox cannot take even my support for granted they really need to tread carefully. If I am feeling it others are too and this stuff can hit a critical mass very quickly in a way that takes years to undo.

Maybe this should be a new thread, but the tweet about Brock really pisses me off when I think about how much he meant to so many families and what a glue guy he was. Maybe keeping him around couldn’t be justified from a baseball perspective but given that this team sucks and probably would have struggled to win 75 games even in a full year, what the heck are we about anyway? Maybe I am just reacting to a combination of shit that is not real, and a shitty team, but what used to occupy a warm place for me is now somewhat sour.

I feel a bit the way you do. But I will continue to look in on the Sox just because they are the only team I get as part of my DirecTV package. But my loyalty and sense of excitement and expectations are sort of put away in a drawer somewhere, like winter clothes during the summer. I hope I feel like opening that drawer someday.

When he is playing for the Red Sox in 2045, he will be known as Ripper Holt, which is an awesome name.
He will also be embarrassed to reveal his actual given name, if only because if the spelling.
