In baseball, I believe in three things: pitching, defense and the three run home run. Mitch reminds me of two of those things.

Thanks to an All-Star and a champion.

Biggest hit of that year, I think. Kinsler had thrown away a chance at a 3-0 Series lead and the Sox had nothing going looking at being back to 2-2. Pearce was huge too but Mitch turned momentum back.
As someone else said in the trade thread, down 4-0 in game 4, I was a bit worried until Mitch murdered that ball, Puig didn't even move, he knew it was gone.

Second greatest WS pinch hit home run in RS history, Carbo's IMO will always be #1, that was just huge and without that home run, the series ends and no Fisk HR to win it.

And yeah, they lost game 7, but still...………….huge.

Three trades have really helped restock the system. The work isn't done, but a lot has been accomplished. Obviously the Sox have lost quality players in these deals. There's zero doubt about that and the current team is worse because of the trades. That's not up for debate. But they have added a lot of talent.

In the Betts/Price deal:
- C Connor Wong
- OF Alex Verdugo - already looks like a very good MLB player
- 2b Jeter Downs

In the Hembree/Workman deal:
- P Connor Seabold
- P Nick Pivetta

In the Moreland deal:
- 3b Hudson Potts
- OF Jeisson Rosario

Obviously each of these guys comes with question marks. But each comes with some real upside. As of now, the system has a lot more young talent than it used to. Keep it coming, Chaim.

Every single one of these guys is also in AA or above, which had been fairly barren. Draft and sign well, get more advanced guys in trades, and build up those waves of talent Chaim.

Moreland really was a terrific pickup for them. Cost very little. Provided excellent 1b defense, which helped X and Devers in particular. Had a bunch of HUGE hits during the 2018 title run. Then played great this season, which increased his value, and allowed Boston to get something useful for him in trade (and allowed him to go to a contender).

Easily one of the better under-the-radar players the Sox have had in recent years. And seems like a good dude on top of it. Wishing him nothing but the best.

There aren’t enough words to express how thankful I am for my time here in Boston. You welcomed me in to one of the best organizations with by far the most loyal fans. To say I am grateful for my time here is an understatement. To my teammates, we had a hell of a ride together and memories I will keep the rest of my life. Thank you BoSox nation. Forever grateful. Forever a fan.

Loved Mitchy, I remember vehemently arguing with someone (not on sosh) when they resigned him before 2018 who was really upset that they resigned him instead of pursuing Hosmer. Moreland ended up hitting better (and cost over one hundred million gtd less).

Seems like a good dude too, good luck Mitch, thanks for helping the best red sox team any of us will ever see raise another banner, now go help the padres get one.

Poster from the trade thread wasn’t wrong about his WS Game 4 HR - that ball was CRUSHED.

To me, it seems Moreland is the kind of guy Belichick would gush about. Works hard, head down, good teammate.

Had his struggles here, some injuries, but lots of great highlights - a great value player.

Good luck and thanks for all the great memories - especially all the great 2018 ones. WS Champ.

I've always loved Joe Buck's call "High fly ball to right. Back at the wall. It is GONE!" he seems to be describing Yasiel Puig's route to the ball, but Puig knows it's gone right away and never moved from his post.
I seem to recall him moving a little bit: he turned around and watched it leave, then covered his head with his hands to further show up his pitcher/teammate before (I believe) bending slightly at the waist to show how defeated he felt, which I'm sure did a ton for team morale. The rest, as they say...

Moreland took one of the most crushing defeats imaginable with the 2011 Rangers, so 2018 had to be unbelievably sweet for him. Glad he had the crucial homer of the series.

I saw an interview last year where MM kind of gushed about how much he loved being a Red Sox. He did seem like a great guy, and teammate, who really appreciated where he was at. I'm thankful for his big hits and that HOMER! and I'm glad I can still keep close tabs on him out here in SD. Wecome to town, Mitch.
