Will be curious to see how the course plays today after all the blowback yesterday. I think some of the blowback is a little overdone, BUT the USGA has been marketing this as the "Massacre at Winged Foot" and running ads about how hard it was going to be, then they set up like it was WGC Westchester. So the criticism is fair, especially when the players said they were surprised how easy it was and how soft the greens were. Either keep the greens soft and tuck the pins, or go firm and fast with yesterdays pins.

Already today it's looking more difficult, more-so if the wind stays up.

Only 4 players under par for their rounds today, nobody lower than -2. 2 of the under par players have only played 2 and 4 holes.

Winged Foot has its teeth today.

Berger and Bubba are going low. -4 and -3 at the turn.
The USGA should be ashamed. Guys are spinning the ball back on the green out of this supposedly impossible rough.

Eh, it's still plenty tough. NLU tweeted that it's playing 2.7 shots harder so far today. And the wind is starting to pick up. They may not get an over par winner but I'd probably hazard a guess that the number is not going to be very far under par. I bet JT would take -5 right now and run.

I will say that the USGA does seem to have gone soft the last few years after Chambers and Shinnecock. Shinny especially was the straw the broke the camels back.

Sure, and it's likely the correct setup. It's the pre-tournament marketing blitz about how brutal this was going to be that gets me though. They promised a massacre, I want a massacre!

Yeah, that's fair. They did make it seem like +10 was going to win.

We could get a massacre this afternoon if the wind keeps up. I have it on mute so I'm not sure if they've gone over the forecast on the broadcast.

For what it's worth, I'm watching on mute as well and every time I look up I see people hitting shitty shots and scores are dropping. So maybe the carnage is indeed coming today.

Very tough conditions right now. Stiff breeze blowing, course is biting back pretty hard. Pars on these holes are good scores now.

how crazy is it that these guys keep putting the ball past the hole on purpose on 1 to have it come back and nestle closely to the hole.....feels like some caddyshack stuff going on

It's definitely getting tougher. The guys getting good looks at birdie playing from the rough was y biggest gripe yesterday. I haven't watched a ton today but hopefully that's not as prevalent today.
JT and Reed have to feel pretty good. Looks like their 18 hole scores will still be 1 & 2 after half the field has played 36 holes

Sure but the flip side of that is they still have to play 18.

If Schauffele can stay under par I like his chances.

The side camera angle of 18 really gives you an appreciation of what the players short of that green are facing. Wild.

Bryson eagles 9. to finish at -3. I think that has an excellent chance of leading at the end of the day.
I’ll be surprised if it isn’t. Course playing very hard.

Phil finishing with a 3-putt from 6 or 7 feet is very Phil. And Tiger with the all-world save to start his round is a good sign.

I’m gonna say that the only thing keeping the cut from going to +6 is that half the field played in the morning. (I just don’t think enough people can blow up to get it there.)

Course is brutal right now.

We're gonna get Bryson-Reed as the final pairing tomorrow, aren't we? Mega-villains.

For all his many flaws, Reed is relentlessly tough. I still don’t think he gets in at -3. (Which is what he’d need for us to have the “all-heel twosome.”)

Personally, I am rooting for him to be paired with English, which would be a death pairing given their history.

Yeah, I hadn't thought of that either. Awesome.

Also, I think Reed just took a drop without an official. Let's see the video review!

Any camera angle that is close to the ground is must see because it shows how ridiculous the slopes and elevation changes are on the green. It sucks that the aerial shots flatten out the course so much.

JT rolls a long one in on 7 to get back to -2. Nice bounce back after a rough start. Might be able to pick another one off on 9.

Either way, highly likely we have a Reed/DeChambeau final pairing tomorrow.

Isn't that the pairing a lot of people here wanted a few weeks ago?
