Ever thought to yourself: "October is the tenth month! Why does it start with Oct? That means eight! Whoever changed that should be stabbed!" I have good news for you.

In other words, the 2020 draft is the 6th/7th. Free agency starts the 9th.

My 2020 prediction: there are going to be multiple offer sheets in the 2nd round pick (2.2->4.something) a year. Grzelcyk might get one.

Apparently it’s goalie day...

@penguins
The Penguins have re-signed goaltender Tristan Jarry to a three-year contract.
The contract will run through the 2022.23 season and carry an average annual value of $3.5 million.

deep inside Guido territory
Craig Custance’s latest
—Rangers still haven’t offered a QO to Ryan Strome.
—Vegas would pretty much be the only team Stamkos would go to because of the tax situation.
—OEL makes more sense for the Bruins than Vancouver.
—Lots of interest in Bobby Ryan.
—Matt Duchene may be available.
—Of the two Panthers wings about to be available, Dadonov would be more likely to re-sign.

I really don’t blame Stamkos. He took an under market deal to stay there and I’m sure the phrase “We have no state tax in Florida, so you’re not really leaving money on the table by taking this versus going” to say Toronto. I’d only go to another tax free state if I were him.

It'd take some serious cap sorcery from Vegas to get him there. They are over the cap. I know they are trying to unload Fleury, but that's only $7 million if they are able to clear that entire cap hit off the books (which is probably unlikely). They probably have to try and unload Stastny too at a minimum.

Jesse Puljujarvi is back with the Oilers, signing a 2-year $1.175 AAV contract. Not sure if he is still demanding a trade and this was just a way to facilitate it or if he'll try again with the Oil.

Also, NYR malcontent Lias Andersson was shipped to LA for a 3rd round pick earlier today. Former 7th overall pick in 2017 I believe.

My prediction was wrong. The solution has been to non-QO a bunch of people. This offseason is going to be a circus.

Buyouts coming today. So far Alex Wennberg from CBJ and Corey Schneider from NJD.

CBJ clearing some space, they are expected to take a run at Taylor Hall.

We'll see if today ends up being busy as teams clear cap space in advance of tomorrow. Tampa might settle their business today so they aren't susceptible to an offer sheet tomorrow. I know if I had the space, I'd have an offer sheet for Sergachev ready to go tomorrow at 12:01 pm if Tampa hasn't cleared space yet.

Sergachev is very fucking good and fits the profile needed damn close to a T. LHD, 22 years old, 6'2'' 217 lbs., 10 goals and 24 assists in 70 games.

Couple of defensemen traded this afternoon:

CBJ continues to clear space by sending Markus Nutivarra to Florida for minor leaguer Cliff Pu.

Anaheim trades Eric Gudbranson to Ottawa for a 5th round pick.
