So if one of those people that was in close contact with Cam got it, they will pass it on to the other 20? I guess I don't have a better idea short of isolating those 20.

So the "Traced Twenty" would likely include:

McDaniels
Fisch
Hoyer
Stidham
???

Wait...so everyone testes negative...but could still have it and a positive test will come up soon...so put the 20 most likely people on the same plane? I can't believe they are playing this game. This one game has the chance to cancel the entire league's season.
Yikes! Usually football players are testes positive

Those 20 people must be fucking pumped to be on that plane.
It gets worse. The airport won't allow them to land and the hotel won't shelter them, so they're gonna parachute onto the field just in time for the game.

So glad to see how important player safety is to the NFL just like they've been telling us for years.

What a disgrace.

What are the odds no other Patriots player or coach is infected and it's just Cam, the central player on the team, the one who calls plays in the huddle, meets with coaches on a regular basis and is around all the other players?

Has anyone read or seen anywhere if he has been tested again and if it once again came back positive?

Again; I find it almost impossible he's the only member of the team who's infected and now you are throwing them on a plane (oh gee sorry, two planes) and playing a game tomorrow night.

This could be an epic disaster.

That's what it sounds like but they are waiting until tomorrow to leave for KC. My understanding is that everyone has been tested twice so far.

Just said on FNIA that NFL is invesitagting Pats for possible protocol violation in Newton situaiton. So, yeah, we'll get screwed.

Thanks for the information; so they're flying out tomorrow, playing a game at night, then flying home after the game, two flights on the same day?

Then a short week and they play Denver at home next Sunday.

That's crazy.

At least the bye is after playing Denver. Speaking of which, I agree that the NFL should have added a second bye.

Most likely Cams test is a false positive. Unfortunately, based on the NFL Covid rules, he's stuck being out 5 days. So, in short, he's probably not positive and the Pats get screwed having their QB against KC

He is not a false positive. We really need to be better collectively about determining the source of our information. Fake news is being spread all over this site now - we need to fight it.

If anything is screwing NE, its the virus.

I am thinking the same thing, I guess time will tell, ie, no more positives and he comes back negative at some point.

If true, too bad he has to sit out this game, if they lose they'll be two games behind the Bills.

I think I will be stunned if this game gets played Monday. We'll see what happens in the next 15-20 hours. A lot can change here ...

The investigations are done jointly by the NFL and the NFLPA

Someone else would have to test positive, I would have to think for it to be postponed. Which could happen but it sounded like both teams have been tested twice.

I feel like any investigations they are launching is in part an attempt to keep attention away from the fact that they are making stuff up as they go along in regards to positive tests and scheduling.

We all know they are not going to cancel based off of one positive test.

So, that said, how else would the team get to KC?

I just watched the Social Dilemma and all I can imagine is me and NJ getting back different results from the algorithm for the exact same search language.

That said, the poster was likely speculating and things aren't clear but that link was the first result from my search.

Yup. Let's see what happens in next 15-20 hours. I thought I read somewhere that NFL players typically don't get tested on gamedays, but is it safe to assume they.'ll be another round of tests tomorrow?

Aren't we still waiting for the PCR tests from today? The negative ones this morning are the POC tests

I think it’s very likely we don’t see Cam until Week 7 after the bye, which sucks because an almost sure win against Denver is now going to be a tougher game. They simply can’t afford to lose that game given the gauntlet that’s following.
yeah the denver game is tough because with cam u were a lock for 24-31 pts and a win now with hoyer 17-24 is most likely and aga denver u must throw throw throw denver is good aga the run game Cam wouild had threw for 325 and 3 td's but with hoyer maybe u throw for 200 and 1-2 td's anyway with cam its 31-13 or 17 u guys without cam its 24-20 u guys or 20-17 denver

This was going to be a difficult game to win regardless. KC is playing great and they're the class of the NFL right now. But still, Cam gave them a chance. Now it will take a near miracle.

The bigger issue, from a Patriots football standpoint, is next week when they play Denver. That's a game they probably would have won relatively handily, but with Hoyer at the helm, it's suddenly a toss up, or at least a much tougher task. That's a game they simply cannot lose. If Cam is out for that game as well....ugh.

And I really wonder about Stidham v. Hoyer. It seemed that, before they signed Cam, the Patriots were going to roll with Stidham. So why did he disappear? My theory is that if they had to go with Stidham, they would have been adopting a perspective of "well, we know it will be rough, but at least we are turning the page to the future". But with Cam, suddenly the goal of the season changed into "hey we've got a chance". And when that changed, they then thought that Hoyer gave them a better backup option than Stidham.

Still....I've not much confidence in the offense with Brian Hoyer running things. Get well soon, Cam!
u are right because IF denver wins next sunday all of a sudden they are likely 3-3 hosting a wore down KC in denver u have to beat denver or hope denver does not get to 9-7 because if they do tiebreakers come into play

Patriots could very easily have zero additional positive tests, play tomorrow and then have a Tennessee situation going into the Denver game resulting in it's cancellation.

So could the Chiefs based off their positive this week. So could the Falcons who had a player test positive. So could any team after this week

I think there's a few reasons to think this is far more likely for the Patriots than the Chiefs or Falcons based on who the player was. Don't you?

Because you think players only see each other during games?

The Titans have multiple players positive ... none is a quarterback

my q is if we knew the nfl was going to act like this why the 6 extra practice squad spots just hold the postive players out and play because i doubt Tenn can play next week

Seems like a best case scenario but wouldn’t surprise me. That said, it seems crazy a guy could be on a football field a week after being diagnosed with this thing.
We had our nanny test positive and my whole family tested negative twice. Daycare and school still wouldn’t kids back until the full 14 days had expired. Don’t know why NFL wouldn’t do this. Positive test? You’re missing at least 2 weeks. No exceptions.

The entire NFL protocol is arbitrary, the more you unpack it.

I had no idea until today that testing isn’t performed on game day, for instance. Ok?

NFL wasn't going to do that as it would be proof of concept that they don't need a 17th game in the regular season over 18 weeks.

I mean, they kind of have to, don't they?
Yes, you are right, they absolutely should investigate to see what is going on with teams and try to keep people safe.

I agree with Merlin and others that the protocol seems arbitrary. It would be nice to know that X number of positive tests will cause a game to be rescheduled like with TEN. Also, it seems like the timing of a test should matter too. Given incubation times, I'd think a positive test closer to travel or game would give the league serious concerns about throwing everyone on a plane. Maybe this information is out there somewhere but given the amount of speculation about what is going to happen it doesn't seem readily available and gives me the impression they are making things up as they go,

looking ahead, the patriots flight back to boston tonight is currently scheduled to get in at 2:55am. the team will have been up for 24 hours, some probably longer, with the uncertainty of playing, then actually playing, then flying back with the uncertainty of spread, plus a now much shorter week for sunday"s game. good job nfl.

the specificity of these tests is very high. It’s very hard to get a false positive from a well designed qPCR and the COVID diagnostic is definitely well designed (after an initial false start).

Not sure. The Chiefs QB was running the scout team, so in all the meetings, running plays against the first team defense.

I'm not sure we've seen anything that shows the higher profile a player is, the more likely he transmits it.

You have any basis for this statement?
We get them all the time at my work. Constantly we are testing every staff member every week. Without fail, at least once every other week someone with no symptoms will pop as a positive. We will re-test them on 3 and 7 day intervals, and every time they have been negative on the subsequent tests. So, for example - tested Wednesday, negative, tested following Wednesday, positive, tested again that Saturday, negative, then again on Wednesday and negative again. So - either 3 of 4 negatives were wrong, or the 1 positive was wrong. It is a constant problem, as the 1 positive, even if wrong, requires that person to be out of work until the 2 negatives are in.

I mean, who knows for 100% sure, but I find it very odd we would have 1 employee test positive out of 160, with no other employees or patients testing positive. I would find it just as odd that Cam tested positive, but no other Patriot coach or player who have been in close contact with him tested positive. Smaller overall numbers, and anything is possible I suppose.

Well, they are at least separating the personnel into their two charter planes for the flight over.

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2020/10/05/nfl-week-4-covid-fmia-peter-king/

Around dawn in Foxboro, the approximately 130 in the New England travel party—60 or so players (including practice-squadders) and 70 members of the coaching staff and essential training, equipment, ownership and front-office staff—took point-of-care COVID-19 tests, the rapid tests, with results back within 15 to 30 minutes. The testing trends of the weekend—apparently all negative—continued in the right direction, and shortly before 8 a.m., the travel party proceeded into buses for trips to two airports, per ESPN. One travel party, the much larger one, was scheduled to take a Delta charter from Boston’s Logan Airport. The other travel party was scheduled to take a different Delta charter from T.F. Green Airport in Providence.
