... because?
Because Holyfield knocked him out in the 3rd round in his next fight because he was a trumped up journeyman who only beat Tyson because his mind was way out in the ether.

Also, Douglas staged a comeback in the late ‘90s, so he’s not a good example at all.

Mark Teixeira is such a hypocrite. Taking the “What about the children?” approach to supporting teammates who cheat, like he didn’t rally around A-Rod for years.

376 hits from 3000. You have to wonder if he is of a mind to come back and hang around until his early 40's, try to get 3000 hits and hope a historical committee or veterans committee of some kind puts him in the HOF one day. Maybe this is the end of his career, though.

Thanks to Ben Johnson and taking a sports ethics class in 1988, I know how to spell stanozolol. LOL

Ben got caught because his doctor thought he was purchasing a higher quality drug on the black market, which was harder to detect but the supplier sold him cheaper stuff, the Stanozolol. 32 years later a guy with Cano's resources is using winstrol (the commercial name for Stanozolol) a drug commonly used by the guy trying to win the Mr (insert name of local strip mall gym) contest?

He’s got 2/48 left on his deal for 2022-23, he’s definitely coming back.

It's so ridiculous. How is someone this rich getting popped for this?

I think the contract brings him back more than dreams of a HOF election, but I'm sure he would want to be inducted if that were remotely possible. To my knowledge there has been no one yet to be elected to the HOF who has served a suspension in violation of the league's drug policy, let alone been suspended twice. And while some have been held out because of strong connections/suspicions of PED use the only HOF eligible player whose has served a suspension for is Manny Ramirez so I would imagine the likes of Bonds, Clemens and McGuire get in before Cano.

Miami (oh, Miami!)
Well, he can just recycle his earlier statement with a few tweaks:

Recently I learned that I tested positive for a substance called Furosemide, which is not a performance-enhancing substance. Furosemide is used to treat various medical conditions in the United States and Dominican Republic. This substance was given to me by a licensed doctor in the Dominican Republic to treat a medical ailment. While I did not realize at the time that I was given a medication that was banned, I obviously now wish that I had been more careful.

For more than 15 years, playing professional baseball has been the greatest honor of my life. I would never do anything to cheat the rules of the game that I love, and after undergoing dozens of drug tests over more than a decade, I have never tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance for the simple reason that I have never taken one.

Today I decided to accept MLB's suspension. This was the most difficult decision I have ever made in my life, but ultimately the right decision given that I do not dispute that I was given this substance. I apologize to my family, friends, fans, teammates and the Mariners organization. I am extremely grateful for the support I have received during this process, and I look forward to rejoining my teammates later this season.

There is an alternate timeline where A-Rod’s group bought the Mets and we potentially could have heard ‘It’s banned? But my owner showed me how!”.

Cano has always been an interesting Hall of Fame case. He never struck me as one of the top ten players in baseball, and has never led the league in a significant statistical category; but his career numbers (2,624 hits, 334 home runs, career OPS+ of 126, WAR of 68.6) suggest that he has solid credentials. He did finish Top 5 in MVP voting four times, although never finished above third. With two positive tests it is probably over, even if the walls on the steroid guys come down in future years.

If you’re a struggling minor leaguer looking to get to that next level, I completely understand the mindset of turning to PEDs for that little extra push to fame and fortune.

But Cano? Clemens? Bonds? These guys were already naturally gifted, blessed with the ability to play this game at the highest level, and are financially set for life. What in the world motivates a 38 year old Cano, already on a Hall of Fame path, to risk EVERYTHING for a few more years of above average productivity.

You're seriously downplaying an athlete's competitiveness.
