BB may catch some heat tomorrow from the hot-take duo. The opening should be a fun listen.
I tuned in for a few minutes today.................they're ripping Belichick for Brady leaving here, killing him even more over Gronkowski, he retired because he did not want to play for Belichick anymore, took a year off and was very good last night, specifically his blocking.............saying players will no longer want to come here, it was never about playing for Belichick, it was all about playing with Brady.

Also saying Belichick has to do better in 2021 than 7-9 or he will start to lose the fan base, not saying he's on a short leash.........but........................if they have another down year............................

The three of them are giddy over all of this..........................time to tune out.

Its on to the newest hotter hot take. (they gotta eat too)

This year it was Tom v Bill and its been settled at least for this year. But a shadow has been cast on who was more responsible in NE--was it the Patriot Way or Tom's Way? (I'm 60-40Team Tom)

So the new iteration to tease and troll Pats fans seems will be, can Bill rebuild the Pats in a year or two and restablish the Pats as a play-off team for years to come? Can BB still recruit FAs to "joyless" Fort Foxboro, or has the Pat's mystique relocated to Tampa-St.Pete?

This was so predictable... not sure why people would even bother. It's not even entertaining at this point.

I'm with you, it's about 60/40 in favor of Brady................I love how they paint a picture now that coming here is a real slog for players, not a place they want to come.

They are openly questioning whether Belichick can build another winner here; again, the comment was something to the effect of "The fans gave him a pass this year, we'll see how patient they will be next year and beyond"........................

They also pointed out Evans has already come out and said he'll restructure his contract if it helps them keep other players.

Yeah.......good for them, whatever.

Oh and Gronk is reborn in Tampa, he wants to come back next year too......................that's great Gronk, glad you had a lot of fun and everyone was cracking jokes all the time.

I bet Arians is a real barrel of laughs.

I wonder how long dumping on the accomplishments of local teams over the past two decades is going to generate good ratings. They seem very lazy.

I listened today and consider them the highest of trolls, but most of what they said today is hard to argue with. Pats are in a very very difficult situation.

You can’t overlook the fact that many New Englanders (which I have been my entire life) are by nature miserable pricks. People with that world view will always be drawn to this kind of entertainment, and there are no shortage of them.

Felger & Mazz get ridiculous ratings, have dominated Boston sports radio for years, and have all but killed off Glen Ordway and WEEI. They know what they’re doing. Trolling is a business model now.

I don't know if the trolling business model will sustain when the city is not in an absurd run of dominance that all four major teams got in on.

I suspect its easier to troll the hometown fans when their teams (in general) are winning. I'm in NYC and to my knowledge F&M style trolling really isn't a thing here. Francesa would troll the Mets or Jets fans from time to time, or call out the G-Men (eventually) but usually it was an honest take from him (though he would troll Pats-Brady fans with his slanted inane anti-Pats takes).

F&M play off one another (with Felger usually as the bad cop-HT instigator) with a hot take meant to annoy the locals for shits giggles phone calls and ratings. I wonder if the Sox or Pats go on extended periods of suck, how pissing off already pissed off fans with annoying hot takes will play or how willing fans will be to listen or chat with annoying a-holes. If your teams are winning you may put up with the bullshit for laughs, but when your teams are losing your tolerance for content-free chatter and BS probably declines.

During yesterday's show Bedard went after F&M hard at the show opening. Was completely exasperated at Mazz over some of his statements from Monday. Mazz's response was "oh but you know I was being hyperbolic". Which made Bedard's head nearly explode "BUT YOU SAID THAT TONY!".

Basically Bedward was holding to them what they actually said, and you could tell he was on the edge of screaming TROLLLLLL.

They will continue to be successful as long as the local teams are successful. It's all the winning that supports the business model. The fans are obsessed with sports, they are going to listen to something when the teams are good. That's why we were able to expand from 1 full time sports station to 2 during this run over the last 20 years the local teams have had. But we have a 2-3 year run where the teams are mediocre, the interest is dropping and their ratings will as well say bye bye to all the success. Of course the irony is that if the teams are in that spot, they totally would deserve all the bashing from the media. They're able to get away with bashing them non-stop when they are successful because people are listening to them because the teams are successful, not because they are revolutionaries of the medium that have done what has never been done before and could never be done since.

Of course all that said, they are still superior to WEEI and absolutely deserve to beat them in the ratings.

Not old enough to remember Boston sports radio prior to that run of success? It was all misery, all the time. That's the model on which the industry was built. Sports radio didn't change, the teams did.

When the absurd run is over, hating on management and the players will continue. It will just change its appearance from "trolling" to "truth". And people will keep on tuning in and calling in.

Spot on in all areas of your post. The Big Show was built on Red Sox bashing.

Spot on in all areas of your post. The Big Show was built on Red Sox bashing.
Pre 2004 on Saturdays the Mustard and Johnson show used to feature one Yankees caller after another, Mike from Canton and Frank from Gloucester among others, all they did was bash and ridicule the Red Sox.

One of their best shows ever was the Saturday after the Red Sox came back from 0-3 and beat the Yankees, caller after caller eating crow, it was worth all those years of being carpet bombed with Yankee fans mocking Red Sox fans.

Forever?

Other than Jim Murray (who thinks he’s Felger light), I think they are great. Their takes are so predictable at this point, yet they continue to rile up the masses. It’s a sound strategy for this market, and sports talk radio in general.

I guess I don't have an ear for strategic trolling and prefer sports talk. That might put me in the minority.

Was Doug unconscious the past 10 years or so? "Hypotheticals in order to be outraged" was the original show name before settling on Felger & Mazz. The pandemic has been my clean break from Boston sports radio (during my 45-50 minute commute did half podcasts/half radio) and I don't regret it one bit!
I’m right there with you. I was aging and trending that way anyway, but a year of hardly ever being in my car during an average weekday has finished the job. I check in here out of morbid curiosity once and while, but haven’t tuned into these clowns or EEI in months. And it’s been confirmed that talk radio is utterly and completely unnecessary to my interest and enjoyment of Boston sports. I can’t imagine every really bothering with it again.

That's 3 of us. After listening daily since the mid 90s, the orgasmic joy expressed on both stations over the Patriots' return to the middle of the pack caused me in mid autumn to just stop. Don't miss it and can't envision ever going back. I do podcasts, but that's it.

My how they’ve morphed from one of the original show commandments.
“Never get the team in trouble for something they haven’t done yet.”
Don't forget "We won't be doing the celebrity caller thing"

Fast forward: "Hello Danny from Quincy" "You're up Dakota from Braintree"

I love how Danny from Quincy always starts his call calm, cool, collected and measured and you can hear his anger and angst slowly building as the call goes on until he gets to the end and he's ready to stroke out, exactly the sort of fella you'd want as the captain of a boat you're on.

New phone and I forgot to set up my blue tooth. So had to listen to it a little but today. Mazz would trade Pasta (and maybe give more) for Jack Eichel. Then followed it up with..."But you gotta also tell me more about his game. I don't know a whole lot about it."

Turned on the car as I left the office this afternoon and before I could change to spotify, I heard Felger complaining about Brady's cell phone. WHY
