Fair but will they have enough capital to do much more in the offseason?A player like Gordon will ensure that they get into the playoffs as a 4-8 seed and a respectable first round exit against a better team. It will mask what a disaster portions of this season have been, and give Ainge and Stevens a chance to regroup in the offseason. But since they make a move nobody will be able to dump on them for doing nothing or something small.
Me as well. I love the idea of a big, strong point guard who can defend and pass and, unlike Smart, has good shot selection.I didn't vote this way, but I want Lonzo.
Good idea. I think we should because I have a lot of pent up whining ready to go...Can we use this as a game thread too?
John Hollinger on Twitter: "For those of you wondering where all the trades are, we may have a bit of a Suez Canal situation, with Kyle Lowry and Aaron Gordon playing the role of Evergreen. Once their destinations are known, the other dominoes can fall. Til then, the trade market is clogged up." / Twitter
I think that will depend on what the internal assessment of the team is, which we don't know at this point, but this would involve moving players we think of as untouchable.Fair but will they have enough capital to do much more in the offseason?
I'm OK with losing picks but the overpay that Orlando is looking for includes Marcus Smart. All the reports indicate that Danny wants to do the Aaron Gordon deal with Nesmith + a 1st, but the Magic want Smart too by possibly expanding it to include Fournier. Would folks here make that trade?I think the C's organization must be mindful of the fact they are on the verge of losing fanbase if they do nothing. I expect a deal today, even if it is an overpay. I am anticipating losing some picks, and personally I am OK with that (within reason, of course).
Or there's more than just Harris going to Orlando.Gary Harris was an asset, but today is a salary dump. that feels like an Orlando leak to bump the price up from someone.
No. Smart is valuable to the Celtics and other teams would want him. I also think an addition like Gordon can make Marcus a better player again by allowing him to not chuck up so many bad shots.I'm OK with losing picks but the overpay that Orlando is looking for includes Marcus Smart. I'd drive Kemba to the airport. The Athletic this morning proposed:
"Kemba Walker, Romeo Langford and a protected 2021 first-round pick to Orlando for Aaron Gordon and Evan Fournier"
I'd do that trade in a heartbeat, because we are getting out of Kemba's deal without having to pay someone to take him.
Everyone would. We'd be out of all the contract commitments a year earlier too if Kemba doesn't opt out.The Athletic this morning proposed:

If Gordon Hayward didn't prevent it, Aaron Gordon isn't going to. Marcus is gonna Marcus.No. Smart is valuable to the Celtics and other teams would want him. I also think an addition like Gordon can make Marcus a better player again by allowing him to not chuck up so many bad shots.
They supposedly like Kemba, but I agree - that deal is much too in favor of the Celtics. Why would Orlando ever do that? They have no use for Kemba and he's basically a negative asset at this point with his contract.
The older he gets, the less likely he is to shed the weight and the more likely it is to impact his game negatively. He's always been out of shape, it just never bothered him before.I'm a little torn on Marcus. I'm fine with trading this year's version, but I also assume that he'll eventually get in shape and get back to being the Smart that is super valuable at some point. I think I'd want more than Gordon and Fournier for him.
I think there is something to this. That said, a move for the sake of a move isn't the answer.I think the C's organization must be mindful of the fact they are on the verge of losing fanbase if they do nothing. I expect a deal today, even if it is an overpay. I am anticipating losing some picks, and personally I am OK with that (within reason, of course).
If multiple teams still see Smart as a significantly positive asset, which we're hearing out of Atlanta and Orlando, I would absolutely sell high on him. It's almost April and he's still not in shape. I'm extremely concerned about his performance the remainder of this contract, and what he'll bring on his next. The older he gets, the less likely he is to shed the weight and the more likely it is to impact his game negatively. I'd be very worried how he ages, especially on D.
You can't really overpay for a top 5-10 player in the league.I'd love to see track record of teams that were thought to have "overpaid" in major roles. Did that indeed end up significantly hurting those teams, or were they able to survive and thrive?
It may be too early to gauge the Lakers' deal for Anthony Davis, but you could probably make the case that they overpaid at least a little for him. With one NBA title to their credit since then, and perhaps more coming, the Lakers might be willing to live with that.
and 2 1st, and getting Aminu too.
Yeah, the most obvious overpay recently to track is Holiday. You can't really overpay for a top 5-10 player in the league.
No doubt, but if the Bucks win it all this season, will they regret that move? Probably not.Yeah, the most obvious overpay recently to track is Holiday.

The price is great and he fills the biggest need, but this would have to use the TPE unless players are involved. Two second rounders for Fournier? That's it?
Yeah, if the Celtics where were we thought they could be, this would be a great move. I still don’t hate it, just closes off a lot of options. On paper, this is a very good acquisition in terms of the talent the C's are bringing in. Fournier won't wow anyone with his defense but this has the potential to really help the offense.
No, that's up to $4.8MM. Poirier's is $2.8MM I think. Fournier makes $17MM.Can they use the Kanter TPE for the Fournier deal?
