York is a total nerd. I like him as an owner for the most part outside of a few very bad decisions.

Bob Kraft was out there with a stopwatch timing Tebucky Jones back in the day. Owners all have to learn to give the professionals some room -- some just learn faster than others.

Mac Jones was beaming in his interview, and Trey Lance just responded to the question of ‘so how will it feel to go 3?’ with ‘well, I hope my phone rings but if not I’ll go to a good situation’ (paraphrased).

JUST SAYING

So is this a good draft? How good is Lawrence? Of course it's only conjecture at this point. But what is his ceiling?

FWIW Simms on Mad Dog saying vociferously that for the 49’ers he would pick Jones (but would understand Lance). “He’s an upgrade over Jimmy.” Praises his arm, decision-making, mobility in the pocket says he will likely do well in that system.

“They say he had two first-round WRs, Tua had four”

Sarcasm or is he that good?
He's either the highest regarded prospect since Luck or Elway depending on who you believe.

So his ceiling is probably top 5 QB of all time. He'll probably be at least a pretty good QB.

Nah, for real. He’s a gifted, slam dunk prospect at #1.

Obviously putting together a decade plus career that gets you to the Hall is easier said than done, but he’s got it all. Up there with Luck and Peyton in terms of how clean a prospect he is over the past 25 years.

He's just about as good as it gets, in terms of a QB prospect. Kiper has him as the 4th highest QB he's ever rated, for what that's worth.

The other 4 QB's would likely be in contention for #1 pick in any other draft and who knows what order they'll go in tonight. I'd expect them all gone within the first 5-7 picks, maybe one of them drops unexpectedly. Each have their issues, but all have the ability to be a franchise QB given the right situation.

There aren't a lot of front 7 defensive players that are highly rated, which is unusual. But overall this should be a pretty good draft, with the potential to get some really good steals late in the draft given the lack of games/film they have on some of these guys.

There are so many ridiculous things in that statement, but I'll just mention one - I think John Metchie will be a 1st rounder next year.

Thanks guys, it has been a foregone conclusion so long, nobody has even talked about him. I got my answer why.

Albright pinned this within the last hour. I'm allowing myself to dream.. very dangerous.

I mean York tweeted something about racquetball which has niners twitter reading "tennis" into it. And Jones played tennis as a kid. So there was another uproar about 20 minutes ago.

The whole thing is so interesting. Lance or Fields will get patience and a long rope from fans. Jones better be great on snap 1.

So, for those of us not paying attention much, what needs to happen at the top of the draft for the Patriots to have a realistic chance at getting one of the top QBs?

Other teams not taking them :)

Root for Mac at 3 and Pitts/Sewell/Chase 4-6. That opens up a lot of possibilities for trading up at a costly but reasonable price.

I think one of the things keeping him down early was supposedly his injury history, so could be that he sent teams extensive medicals that have some teams much higher on him.

Probably need Jones to go 3, and 4-6 to be non-QBs. Then trade up. To have one fall to 15 you need all but one of the 7-14 to stay put and not take QBs, which seems unlikely.

Mac Jones going 3rd is the biggest key...

Best case top 6 for the Patriots is something like:

Lawrence
Wilson
Jones
Pitts
Chase
Waddle

& then the Lions/Panthers/Broncos picks are all potentially in play from 7-9 with both Lance & Fields on the board.

If the 49ers do something not dumb, it gets scary much quicker.

So do I want SF to go Jones leaving a chance for Fields or Lance to Pats?

Or do I want them to go Lance and maybe a higher chance Jones slides and we at least get a QB?

Got it. Thanks. Is the reason we need Jones to go 3 because we don't like him or because having Lance still on the board at 4 means there will be too much demand for us to compete to get into position?

Yeah, honestly Jones doesn't have to go 3 if the QB you want is Jones.... I just think most of the board (like most draft analysts) don't see Mac Jones as the same tier as the other 4 (well 3, Lawrence is his own tier).

Yeah, this is the way. With DET at 7, CAR at 8 and DAL at 10 all potential trade partners.

My guess: If a QB falls to 15, the Pats aren't taking him. If they have identified a guy they want, I don't think they'll wait around hoping he falls. They won't just take Mac Jones because he fell to 15.

What we don't want is ATL screwing things up and taking a QB or trading the pick to someone besides us who takes a QB. That's makes trading to #7 almost a necessity to get the guy who's left.

Jones won't slide to 15, someone's gonna panic trade up for him because they don't want to end up with Trask, Mills or Mond. If we want someone and we don't want to overtrade for Jones as our only remaining option, we need SF to not leave him on the board. If someone unexpectedly grabs Lance or Fields before we get in, there's still to opportunity to go get the other.

I disagree. We have no way of knowing if they are pushing to trade and no one bites or if the player at 15 is who they feel is the BPA.
