Only at this late date did it dawn on me that Mac is Cam backwards. The Patriots Passing Palindrome Project
….come Hell or Hightower.Based on other hot takes from media, this summer is going to be the Mac/Cam drama come hell or highwater
I can't say anything about the motives of the media besides their interest in getting clicks, but it's totally possible for two QBs to have similar numbers and be really encouraged about one guy's play while being really discouraged about the other's.I love how it seems to me like the media is trying to frame things as Cam is struggling, but Jones' numbers aren't all that much better.
Also, the styles of pitchers they faced changed a lot. Schmidt in particular I believe totally reinvented his swing as pitching styles changed in the late 70s.With hitters, I wonder if the constant tinkering has to do with failing 70% of the time they step up to the plate.
This is exactly the scouting report that Eagles fans gave me. He is going to drive this board nuts but, hey, getting in position is half the battle.Mills appears to be getting in great positions, and to have shit hands, every writeup is.... Mills dropped picks from basically every QB.
What's the old saying, if he could catch he could be a WR, not a CB.Mills appears to be getting in great positions, and to have shit hands, every writeup is.... Mills dropped picks from basically every QB.
I hate this new trend of charting practice passing stats for that reason. It tells us nothing. What's the value on asserting a guy went 4/5 on 7 on 7's if three of those completions were checkdowns with no pass rush? Completion percentage isn't a good way to judge QB play during actual games, nevermind in practice. So stupid.I can't say anything about the motives of the media besides their interest in getting clicks, but it's totally possible for two QBs to have similar numbers and be really encouraged about one guy's play while being really discouraged about the other's.
Yeah this is basically like if reporters charted how many home runs people were hitting in spring training batting practice, or how many three-pointers people were making in NBA preseason practices. There are occasional scenarios where this might be worth reporting on (if Ben Simmons was suddenly draining threes in practice, say, or if Billy Hamilton was seen jacking BP homers left and right) but for the most part it is totally irrelevant - particularly because we have no idea what each player's goals are on each given set. For all we know the coaching staff is telling Cam to take it easy to avoid injuries, or telling Mac to just focus on making his reads and not to worry about accuracy, or whatever.I hate this new trend of charting practice passing stats for that reason. It tells us nothing. What's the value on asserting a guy went 4/5 on 7 on 7's if three of those completions were checkdowns with no pass rush? I hope so. Tell Cam how much he's meant to the team; then bring on the Mac and Ham show.Literally a week ago I figured there was no chance Mac would start week 1. Based on today’s reports, it feels like there is a chance.
He probably intercepted it in the slot.Dee Virgin is a 100% A+ name tho
You really muffed that one.He covers every inch of the Receiv ...... No wait that doesnt work.
Dee Virgin is a 100% A+ name tho
It's going to be awesome if those type of incompletions are not considered "real misses" during the season. The other two incompletions were just a bit too far for open WRs down the field. 3 real misses on 9 INCs.
Surprised they don't have him competing for a spot with Deron Cherry.Dee Virgin is a 100% A+ name tho
I particularly liked... 2 were designed shots in 2 minute...It's going to be awesome if those type of incompletions are not considered "real misses" during the season.
"Second and ten"
"No it's not, that pass was a bit too far for an open wide receiver down the field. It's not a real miss."
"Right you are, first and ten"
I love how we're now giving brownie points for incompletions that weren't a result of a wildly inaccurate pass on a non-padded practice. There's no need to kill the guy for missing a pass at minicamp, but christ. It's going to be awesome if those type of incompletions are not considered "real misses" during the season.

I *think* by shots they were saying the were saying shots down the field--throw long no matter what in that portion of the drill.I particularly liked... 2 were designed shots in 2 minute...
Ah yes, 2 minute the time where you least want to complete passes.
yeah, I get it, but the point was... he still missed them. When you point out the stats of the various QBs, then start trying to explain away the failures of one, it's silly. I mean, if Cam had more completions... does that mean Cam hit those deep throws?I *think* by shots they were saying the were saying shots down the field--throw long no matter what in that portion of the drill.
Exactly. If we can all learn to take mini camp with a grain of salt we'd be better off. Cam is the starter week 1, no matter how much Jeff Howe tells you they were only 3 "real" misses.yeah, I get it, but the point was... he still missed them. When you point out the stats of the various QBs, then start trying to explain away the failures of one, it's silly. I mean, if Cam had more completions... does that mean Cam hit those deep throws?
Well, yesterday half this board tried to use rain and injury to explain Cam's day and the other half of the board wasn't having it, so...even?When you point out the stats of the various QBs, then start trying to explain away the failures of one, it's silly. I mean, if Cam had more completions... does that mean Cam hit those deep throws?
Whoa. Mac is Cam backwards!Based on other hot takes from media, this summer is going to be the Mac/Cam drama come hell or highwater
So - his arm comes back, his mobility comes back, and a few years down the road, he's the MVP?Whoa. Mac is Cam backwards!
Bama and Auburn. Not only is Mac, Cam backwards. He’s white, he’s accurate and he’s not known for his mobility. They are but yin and yang.
Mac had a dog named Newton too. (Fig) Newton. I won't tell you what one of Cam's dogs names is.Bama and Auburn.
Brady?Mac had a dog named Newton too. (Fig) Newton. I won't tell you what one of Cam's dogs names is.
Can you tell us the dog’s nickname? Was it “four-legged animal” or “canine” or “barksalot”?Mac had a dog named Newton too. (Fig) Newton. I won't tell you what one of Cam's dogs names is.
Did you read the article? It was specifically about trades.Hilarious article here at cbssports.com on the offseason rankings - the best offseasons in the NFL so far:
https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/2021-nfl-offseason-trade-rankings-rams-push-for-matthew-stafford-headlines-most-impactful-deals-in-offseason/
The Patriots not only aren't #1 (which is crazy), they aren't even in the top 10. Moreover, they aren't even among the honorable mentions.
LOL
Hmmmm the article is different now. Now the top story in that link is about trades. Scroll down and you’ll see their top 10 off seasons. It’s the next article down. That’s the one I’m referring to.Did you read the article? It was specifically about trades.
Edit: and it includes the Trent Brown trade at #9 potentially most impactful (also includes the Izzo and Cannon trades going the other direction)
Nice details about Nordin crossing paths with both Vinatieri and Brady's Michigan kicker teammate Kornblue.Bob Socci with a nice long form piece on Quinn Nordin

Yeah, the Chargers are #3 because they signed a tight end and a center. Which the Patriots did too, plus another TE, and like a million additional players.I found it. Pretty laughable.
Not to mention, the Chargers had to sign a tight end because they lost a tight end... to the Patriots.Yeah, the Chargers are #3 because they signed a tight end and a center. Which the Patriots did too, plus another TE, and like a million additional players.
Eh, overpay is relative to cap situation. And the way the deals are structured they are most assuredly NOT big cap hits.Same writer, assessing free agency hauls, gave the Patriots a B
The opinions on the Pats' unexpected splurge will be varied, but we fall right in the middle. Are they overpaying for a bunch of guys? Obviously. Do free agent extravaganzas pan out? Rarely. Still, Smith and Henry will immediately improve their offense, Judon is still a Pro Bowl-caliber rusher, and guys like Agholor and Mills offer enough versatility to carve out steady roles. Next up: A real QB.

CBS Sports, for reasons only known to them, essentially makes it impossible to directly link articles there except via social media. It's weird like that.Did you read the article? It was specifically about trades.
