@OCST @scott bankheadcase and whoever invited Emmet Kelleher and John Dolan, please send in your picks before the first kickoff tomorrow. Emmet selected two different teams, but paid for only one, so I'm trying to figure out what he wanted. I'm awaiting a couple other entries as well, just so everyone knows. And then that will be all.

I seriously considered Arsenal but they just didn’t seem ready and those promoted teams always claim a scalp in the first week.

Of course i ran the same risk with a different team but if anyone was going to implode under the pressure of a championship team applying themselves it was probably Arsenal

Thanks for your patience with the first week everyone. I think that it should go more smoothly now that it's all up and running. Good luck to everyone (except for those that picked Chelsea).

I apologized in the pick email! I do think Palace might be sneaky fun this season, but they’re gonna need time to adjust to the new manager *and* get those young high-ceiling lower league guys bedded in.

Yes - I appreciated the couple of apologies I got. I should have made it clear I was kidding with my comment about Chelsea above - all in good fun. But I hope you guys lose :)

19 out of 24 entries move on to play next week. Arsenal and Aston Villa were the teams that did people in. Nobody picked either of tomorrow’s games. For those that are still in, picks are due by the kickoff of Liverpool-Burnley on Saturday. Now that things are up and running, we should have a steady schedule. Thanks and good luck next week!

Maybe I just didn't see it, but is there a link that shows the week 1 picks?

it doesn't matter much now, but later in season, knowing who has been picked has strategic value.

I sent out a link to the spreadsheet on Saturday night (I think) that I’m using to keep track of everything. Let me know if you didn’t get it.

Just a reminder to everyone to have your picks in by early Saturday morning. Last week was a bit more flexible since it was the first week of the season. If your pick isn’t in by kickoff of the Liverpool - Burnley match, you’ll be automatically given the most popular pick.

I have a pretty good idea who the most popular pick will be this weekend

Well, there is an easy pick this week, its whether you want to burn that pick so early in the season.

What's been hard for me in general is thinking about how much of the season we'll likely get through before declaring a winner. In a really big pool, you know that you'll have to get to the end or very close so calculated risks make a lot of sense even early on. You've gotta take Norwich or Burnley or whoever sometime to win the whole thing so if you see a good opportunity, go for it. In a smaller pool, its less clear how far into the season everything will go.

The 4 of you who took Wolves should be getting a little nervous about now

Agreed...I picked a team I don't trust in the slightest. Just hoping their opponent loses the match for me

Want to ask for some guidance here. Just heard from our guy who didn't get his pick in for the second time in a row. He emailed me at 10:45am Eastern with his pick. Possibly trying to appeal to my good nature by picking Palace.

Should he be eliminated for failing to make his pick, or should we let it go? He didn't offer ay extenuating circumstances, just that his good intentions failed.

Holy shit Burnley...please VAR to the rescue please. (edit: yay VAR!)

Edit 2: the player in question is not a SoSH member, so you guys should be impartial on this.

Burnley may have just cost an entry or two.

I also had Everton so that’s a relief
It’s win or draw to keep going, so Vardy saved our Leicester picking asses there. Definitely backed the wrong enigmatic mid-table horse though, having waffled between them and Everton.

I’m okay with it for this week. Let him know that he gets no more reprieves.

Actually - had an idea. He can stay in if Palace win, but eliminated with a draw. Does that seem like a fair way to do it?
