I mean yes, why would you not trust him?In BB we trust...or do we trust him as much post-Brady?
And is JC Jackson close to a quality number 1 corner in this league?

JC Jackson is fine.In BB we trust...or do we trust him as much post-Brady?

Yep. JCJ just had a great game against a great offense.JC Jackson is fine.
But don't they have to remove him I order to cut him?He is still on PUP so cannot play or practice.
I thought they could, with an injury settlement. So he's not hurt at this point, right? Because you can't cut someone who is injured.
Yes, you're right. Thanks.I thought they could, with an injury settlement.
I would be fine with TB. I am most worried about him going to KC.
Does it really matter. The patriots aren’t contenders at all.I would be fine with TB. I am most worried about him going to KC.
Well stated. The reason he's making $7 million this year is because he asked for more money last year so they advanced him a portion of his 2021 salary last year. He then gets hurt and his stance is he's not taking the field without a new deal. What does him and his camp think the Pats would do? Of course the team would want to see if Gilmore was healthy enough to warrant the pay bump. He's 31 and coming off an injury that could sap him of some quickness and explosiveness. It is well within the team's right to see where his health is at before committing more money to a player. It is also within Gilmore's right to do what he did, but still should realize where the team is coming from and should meet them somewhere in the middle if he wants his money. At some point though he needs to get on the field because any other team is going to feel the same way. If they felt differently, they'd have already traded for him sight unseen.
He also has a recent ring so the ring chasing angle is likely not material here. Dude just wants to get paid while playing on a good team.Well stated.
Also, feels like the TB talk is overstated. They don’t have cap room and he wants new dollars. How do the Bucs make that work?
Yeah, the remainder of Gilmore's career has zero relevance to the future of the Patriots at this point. Who cares where he goes?It seems like Patriots fans should simply root for some return for Gilmore and not care about the landing spot. However my base case is that the team isn't likely to contend for the SB this season.
I can't stand the Chiefs or pretty much their entire roster along with most of their fanbase. I've also transplanted out to the KC area. I have no problem rooting for Gilmore to come back healthy, help a team deep into the playoffs and never set foot in the Chiefs' locker room.Does it really matter. The patriots aren’t contenders at all.
After last night, some are just casting about for a reason to be butt-hurtIt seems like Patriots fans should simply root for some return for Gilmore and not care about the landing spot. However my base case is that the team isn't likely to contend for the SB this season.
He is 31 years old and coming off injury. Also, if the Patriots were to trade Gilmore to the Chiefs or the Bucs or any other contender, I am ok with that. Perhaps I am a rube but the people running this franchise have proven to me that the understand what they are doing better than most fans.Yeah, the remainder of Gilmore's career has zero relevance to the future of the Patriots at this point. They have guys they can re-structure or extend without much issue to get money in 2022, and the cap jumps quite a bit in 2023, if they wanted to do it they could. Most teams could afford Gilmore's demands if they wanted to, it just means kicking some obligations down the road.Well stated.

I wasn't being sarcastic, I honestly don't care where he goes...KC, TB, wherever. If they can get a pick before 4:00, great. If not, they need the cap space. He is 31 years old and coming off injury. That’s a tight timeline to get those restructures done though now isn’t it? Plus do they want to commit to a 31 year old corner coming off a major injury for multiple years when a bunch of their guys are FAs next year? Not sure about that either. Guess we will see. They have guys they can re-structure or extend without much issue to get money in 2022, and the cap jumps quite a bit in 2023, if they wanted to do it they could. Do we know the bolded for a fact? If he was obviously faking it or refusing to participate in the conditioning drill to get off PUP, the team would have recourse to treat it as a holdout. I guess it's not out of the question. It's also not out of the question that his quad is not in good shape. The reason he's making $7 million this year is because he asked for more money last year so they advanced him a portion of his 2021 salary last year. Thanks, makes sense. I doubt they would care about kicking some obligations down the road given Brady’s age. They have guys they can re-structure or extend without much issue to get money in 2022, and the cap jumps quite a bit in 2023, if they wanted to do it they could. Most teams could afford Gilmore's demands if they wanted to, it just means kicking some obligations down the road.
Apologies and completely agreed. If they can somehow use this move as way to shore up their OL, that would be great. While adding Gilmore to this defense would be interesting, protecting your potential franchise QB from being sent into another dimension seems like it should be a higher priority.I wasn't being sarcastic, I honestly don't care where he goes...KC, TB, wherever. If they can get a pick before 4:00, great. If not, they need the cap space.
I don't mind him signing with Tampa. New England won't be winning so I'm fine with Brady adding rings 8 and 9.I'm just bracing myself to not be shocked when he signs with Tampa for short money in 24 hours.
Going to the Panthers > Going to a lot of other teams6th rounder > nothing
Not really. Since he wasn't going to be sent to another AFCE team, it didn't really matter where he went.Going to the Panthers > Going to a lot of other teams
They did have one from Michigan who played at a pro bowl level early in his career.Just a 6th? When have the Pats ever hit on a 6th rounder before?
It might not to you, but we can hope that teams we dislike don't get better. Gilmore gets to go home and CAR is a fun team to root for, IMO. I'm perfectly fine with this. If they flip that 6th into another Onwenu type pick even better. Not really. Since he wasn't going to be sent to another AFCE team, it didn't really matter where he went.
Is there a sarcasm font that I should be using? They did have one from Michigan who played at a pro bowl level early in his career.
But Owenewu might have just been a flash in the pan. Sixth round picks blow.
Not enough known to say that. Pats might have been trying to wrangle a fifth-rounder out of someone yesterday. So the release report worked in making a trading market.
This kind of positive attitude and optimism has no place here.Wonder if he'll be ready to go when Pats play Panthers.
Either way, I'm treating this as a Gilmore for Collins and a 6th.
Yup. My guess is things got contentious enough with the Pats that he wasn't willing to play in NE for that contract, but will do so for the Panthers. Otherwise, a sixth rounder in 2023 is as close to "nothing" as it gets and I'd rather keep him for 11 games.I'll defer to members here who know more about this situation that I do, but I'm not understanding what happened here; he wanted an extension, they could not work out a deal, so he held out, he was hurt, so he went on the PUP list for the first 6 weeks of the season.
So when he comes off, was he still planning on holding out or was he going to play out the remainder of his contract/the last 11 games and then walk next year?
If so, why trade him for basically nothing; let him show the rest of the league he can still play the last 11 games of the season and go from there.
If he told them he was holding out for the rest of the year, then I guess he forced their hand.
If they had no plans on keeping him after this year, they should have traded him sooner, they pissed away a somewhat valuable asset with this.
Ok, thanks very much for that.Yup. My guess is things got contentious enough with the Pats that he wasn't willing to play in NE for that contract, but will do so for the Panthers. Otherwise, a sixth rounder in 2023 is as close to "nothing" as it gets and I'd rather keep him for 11 games.
Not if he won't play for you.Yup. My guess is things got contentious enough with the Pats that he wasn't willing to play in NE for that contract, but will do so for the Panthers. Otherwise, a sixth rounder in 2023 is as close to "nothing" as it gets and I'd rather keep him for 11 games.
And Gilmore for Collins and a 2023 sixth is still a tire fire of a trade.
Wait, what?
