Newcastle playing a relegation six pointer against Norwich at St James, a match they really desperately need....and Ciaran Clark gets sent off after nine minutes.

The magpies are seriously in danger of digging themselves a hole so deep they're not going to be able to climb out no matter how much oil money they slosh around in the winter transfer window.

Their remaining first half fixtures are Burnley, @Leicester, @Liverpool, Man City, Man United. Going into the second half with < 10 points seems pretty likely if they lose today to Norwich.

On the one hand, a year of them being the Turbo version of Wolves 17/18 won't be fun for the rest of the Championship. On the other hand, screw Newcastle and it will be very funny.

Norwich doing that thing where they play worse up a man though, so we'll see how this goes.

Oh, I'm definitely rooting for Newcastle to get relegated (with apologies to Joe D. Reid and other fans here).

Norwich aren't confidence inducing but 80 minutes is a long time to play with 10 men especially when most of your team just played a full match three days ago.

Leeds has a pretty seriously irrational hate for the likes of Jordan Ayew. Can’t be because he played for Villa years ago, right?

Also, that’s a foul anywhere else, so should be a penalty, albeit a soft one.

I know it’s probably a pipe dream, but I would love Palace to pay €50 million or whatever it takes to acquire Conor Wickham permanently from Chelsea. It’s such a conundrum: I want him to continue doing well, but the better he does makes it less likely he stays. The double-edge loan knife.

I really do like the way that Leeds play. But that hit on Gallagher deserved a yellow or at least a foul I thought. I think Daniel (not Reece!) James is a fantastic player. This has been enjoyable to watch so far.

There’s the old Christian Benteke.

I was literally looking for a prop bet for him to score the first goal (unsuccessfully at my spot). Maybe it’s better I didn’t.

That’s a tough way for that exciting game to end to this neutral who was enjoying watching it. Not much he could have done but probably the right call

Very fortunate that wasn't saved. It was a shit penalty because of the crow hop.

Edit: It's a penalty for me because his arm was extended, well away from his body, going towards the ball even before the header. You lose the benefit of the doubt on a bang-bang play that way.

It’s a pen. He’s making himself bigger with his arms in that position.

My feelings on that type of penalty runup are well known around here. I think it’s cowardly and love seeing them saved. Bad ending.

It doesn't look like Tammy Abraham has learned how to finish under Mourinho....
Yeah, he has a career 30 non-penalty goals on a non-penalty XG of 34 in top flight football. Its one thing for a striker not to outperform XG by much but to underperform XG over a significant sample is pretty bad when you consider that XG gets calculated out of the chances attempted by all players, including lots by midfielders and defenders who aren't supposed to have finishing in their skill set. Tammy isn't just a below average finisher for a striker, he is a below average finisher for a footballer.

Is it an artifact of Peacock being half-assed that things are just dead silent crowd murmuring during this Watford - Chelsea suspension, or is the in-crowd medical emergency going poorly? I find the broadcast silence unnerving in this context.

Other than the Arlo White broadcasts, NBC just uses the world feed I think so they aren’t responsible for the commentary (or lack there of)

California. Duh.
18 straight games in all competitions that Liverpool have scored at least 2 goals. That's an English record.

So Richarlison is what, 50-50 to get a red card in this game? I'll take late bad tackle followed by bumping the referee or linesman.
