... I don't think X gets in unless he really turns it on the next few years or maintains his 4.2WAR/162 pace into his late 30s. Devers is too young to make a realistic call, but my gut says no as well - not the best 3B in the league, and defensive deficiencies means he's not long for the position either. Maybe he ends up north of 500 home runs, who knows. And don't get me wrong - both are fantastic players, and I hope they both have long and storied careers in Boston. …
Agreed. Love X, but he has no black ink to date, no significant hardware (silver sluggers don’t really count), and is not a good defensive SS. He’s got almost no shot of making the Hall, even if he remains a very good hitter for another 4-5 years. He’d have to become a BETTER hitter, which is… unlikely.

A shift to 3rd might improve Bogaerts' chances of reaching the HoF.

He'll be less likely to wear down every season. Bogaerts batting average is 16 points higher and his OPS 50 points higher in the first half.

Sliding down the defensive spectrum will improve his defense relative to others at the position and allow him to reduce the wear and tear from playing the most difficult defensive position.

He might have won a batting title or two by now if not for his lousy second halves. Plus he could take fewer days off at third and improve his counting stats.

Still quite a long shot for the Hall.

If they sign Correia, X could shift either way and Devers can take the full-time DH position if they are ready to move on from Schwarber and can find a trade partner for JDM. I know X has suggested he would be willing to move over in the right scenario, but you would have to assume he might still be a little upset about it and keep it in mind during negotiations for his next deal.

Of course, if they sign Correia to some ridiculous deal that locks up the SS position for the next 7-8 years, there is the risk of him blocking Mayer when he's ready in 5-6 years. Bogaerts for the next few years at SS might be the best choice by default unless they think Mayer will play another position in the Bigs.

Back on topic: it really seems like it might be Sale and a lot of waiting, at least in terms of BBWAA voting.

Not to turn the page already by any means, but who will be the next Red Sox player to be inducted (e.g., goes in with a Boston cap) by the ballot vote? I don't see Manny going in, though he may have the best chance at this point. Schilling (who, arguably, could have gone in as a Diamondback or with a blank cap) and Papelbon are off the ballot after this year. Adrian Beltré has a strong chance, but it won't be in a Boston cap; neither will Billy Wagner if he gets in. Some have wondered about Lester (though he could go in as a Cub or with no cap) and Pedroia, but both are borderline at best by consensus. Who else does that leave? Are we looking at a long stretch of no new Boston players in Cooperstown? Will we have to wait for someone like Bogaerts to retire? Or Devers? With the dearth of 200-game winners on the ballots in the upcoming years, will the criteria for pitchers change so that a guy like Sale gets in even with the couple of lost seasons?
How about the veterans committee? Evans? Tiant? Buckner?

Cool video, thanks for sharing it. David could setup a shake & hug line (like the old kissing booths) and I'd wait an hour and pay $100 to get one. He gives them out like candy. That's why he is the Big Papi.

Is there any among us who wouldn't chip in $40 towards paying Pedro's finder's fee on Papi?

We don't deserve Pedro, he's just hillarious.
