Let me start this month with a thought: tipping pitches via facial recognition?

https://www.audacy.com/sports/mlb/how-facial-recognition-software-is-spotting-pitchers-tipping
I mean, does this "tip" need software to be detected?

Oh yeah” I’ve heard of it, Bard said. “I don’t know if I had a facial tip, but I heard about a guy on our team. I won’t name names, but another guy that came to our organization this year was like ‘Hey, I was with this other team and we had a facial tip on you – mouth open was a slider, mouth closed was a fastball.
“This was something, literally, that as he was lifting his leg he was making a certain face. I don’t know how a hitter can look at the face, compute that and then adjust to the pitch. It’s amazing to me.”

not once you know what to look for; but the software would make it a lot easier to identify relatively subtle things in the first place
Maybe, but that article was simply projecting the bogeyman of technology to rile up old school baseball fans over a pitcher tipping his pitches in a way that would have been detected by an opponent within a few innings 50 years ago. The only example it provided does nothing to support what the author is saying is happening.

Angels getting crushed again, down 5-0 in the 1st to the Phillies and the inning is still going. This would be their 10th loss in a row and bring them back to .500 at 27-27, when does Joe Maddon get fired?

Edit: Lorenzen threw 37 pitches, gave up 4 hits and 4 walks, but finally got out of it, 5-0 after 1.

“We are happy to introduce our new manager and welcome back the man we believe can lead us into a great future of Angels baseball….Mike Scioscia.”

I truly hate the idea of the Red Sox on the road for a four-game series against a team that has been this bad for two weeks

I'm surprised the Angels haven't used Lorenzen as a hitter.

Rendon is hurt and Taylor Ward hasn’t been the same since running into a fence a few weeks ago, so Ohtani and Trout have very little lineup protection currently.

Trout is something like 0 for his last 24. It seems unlikely he'll keep that going for the Red Sox, sadly.

Dodgers are down by 5 right now, and apparently Roberts was going to bring in a position player to pitch the 9th. I'm watching on the SNY broadcast and they're saying there's a recent rule saying that you can't bring in a position player unless you're down 6 runs or more. There's now a long delay in the game, I think first because they were figuring out the rules, and now because Roberts didn't actually have anyone else up and ready.

Absolutely wild.

Those designated as position players are unable to pitch unless it is extra innings or their team is ahead or trailing by more than six runs when they take the mound. Teams can also designate players as two-way players if they meet certain criteria. Two-way players are able to pitch in any situation but don't count toward the active roster's pitcher total.

5 games tonight MLB-wide and not a single lead change at any point in any of them.

Eduardo Escobar homered in the 8th and tripled in the 9th to hit for the cycle. Mets have 10 runs currently, Escobar has driven in 6 and scored 2 of the other 4.

Mets have a cycle and a no-hitter this year... I'm not saying it's the apocalypse, but I'm not not saying it either

Three days later is the answer.

That team could be really good a lot sooner than people think. I got to watch Corbin Carroll play for a week down here, and he is going to be an awesome talent. Perdomo is going through some growing pains right now, but I think he will start to hit eventually, too. Add them to Walker, Marte, Rojas, Varsho and Pavin Smith, and you have a pretty solid lineup. Jordan Lawler is a little further away, but he is absolutely crushing A ball as a 19 year old, as is Deyvison De Los Santos.

They will have to work on the pitching a bit, and the NL West is tough with the Dodgers and the Giants looking like beast for a while, but I think Arizona could be contending for a WC as soon as next year or 2024.

Sandy Alcantara went 9 innings tonight, but won't get a complete game to his credit since it went to extras. He's currently averaging just shy of 7 IP/GS, which is the best among all qualified starting pitchers. The league average for IP/GS is 5.1. He's also tied for 2nd in starts with 100+ pitches thrown (6) behind only Logan Gilbert (7).

Tony La Russa just intentionally walked Trea Turner...with a 1-2 count. If you could believe it, Muncy followed with a three-run homer to break the game open. He'll never be fired, but how can this go on?

It is wild that between Stanton, Yelich, and Ozuna, the Marlins got the best trade value for Ozuna. They received Alcantara, Zac Gallen, and two non entities for Ozuna and flipped Gallen for Jazz Chisholm. None of the prospects from the Stanton and Yelich deals have worked out.
