I certainly hope so. Pham is trash. And old.Are they stapling a prospect to him or something?
Mutual option, $1.5mm buyout. He has a $6M option for next year, I guess the team finds that appealing?
He’s making $6M this year, and he’s only gotten older. If they plan on acquiring him just for the rest of the regular season, than it’s incredibly puzzling. No way Pham exercises his part of the option. He can get more than $4.5 on the market.
If he's not flipped again then I gotta think Verdugo is on the move. The Sox now have three outfielders who can only play left field.
Kinda sounds like itWhy?
Was he one of Bloom's binkies from his time in Tampa?
True. Also has one of the better walk rates in MLB, which can't hurt this lineup. If they're selling some guys and buying some other guys and still trying to compete then he's a pretty big improvement to an outfield that has 3 guys that can't hit lefties
unless they are moving another OF. They do need to play someone and there aren't a ton of options. He’s making $6M this year, and he’s only gotten older. If they plan on acquiring him just for the rest of the regular season, than it’s incredibly puzzling.
Yeah, I wonder if they just want to avoid a 2012 style finish which is what would happen if they went with in house replacements.unless they are moving another OF. They do need to play someone and there aren't a ton of options.
Essentially $7.5M with the buyout. He’s making $6M this year, and he’s only gotten older. If they plan on acquiring him just for the rest of the regular season, than it’s incredibly puzzling.
Though I probably could have added, unless he just became available, this is probably a move they should have made a few weeks ago once Kike had his setbackTrue. Also has one of the better walk rates in MLB, which can't hurt this lineup.
It highly suggests to me that we are subtracting an outfielder. Whether that's trading Verdugo or Duran or simply releasing JBJ is the question.Puzzled. Maybe they have a deal in the works where they are going to be getting an OF and they need a guy like Pham to send to the other team?
That actually makes no sense. I don't get it.
Right. Also: Kiké is swinging a bat again and should return some time in August, per Cora yesterday.Though I probably could have added, unless he just became available, this is probably a move they should have made a few weeks ago once Kike had his setback
It's like a baby
I agree. I'm sorry if this is too gamethready, but man, if likeability+ were a stat then I'd say we gave up a 150 L+ guy and got a 50 L+ guy.If we’re going to be bad, I’d at least like to be likeable.
There's no way he's done. Another 22.5 hours to go.Bloom isn't exactly in the running for executive of the year is he? Is there even a plan to what he's doing? Just seems like a parade of has-beens and see what sticks to the wall.
I don't doubt he will clean house. Just pessimistic on the return. There's no way he's done. Another 22.5 hours to go.
Did Verdugo get traded?Good news ... Duran no longer has the worst base running instincts on the Red Sox
Pham is worse that thatDid Verdugo get traded?
They have 3 outfielders, if you count Franchy as an outfielder, with OPS of under .500 vs lefties this yearAlso perplexed by this. Will wait until the deadline passes before really passing judgment, but boy this is a weird one. It's not like this team needs another bat to hit lefties. The Sox as a team are already very good against lefties and struggle against righties.
Unlikeable clubhouse problems are the new market inefficiency.Pretty much the last guy I wanted. Not that it matters at this point anyway.
Ironic, given Pham’s objection to setting rosters late.View: https://twitter.com/feinsand/status/1554249735753682951?s=21&t=-LUT868TZdw41SfDE0E5_w
Sox sending a PTBNL for Pham.
This is well done.Ironic, given Pham’s objection to setting rosters late.
Spotrac shows Pham's 2022 cap hit at $2.1 million. After trading Vaz and Diekman, Sox are a little over $4 mil over the 2022 luxury tax limit of $230 million. Depending on what's coming back, trading JD might get us there ($22 mil luxury tax hit for full-year 2022, so I think we would be shedding $7 mil pro-rated).By acquiring Pham, will they even be able to get under the cap?
Hopefully it's Reese McGuire.View: https://twitter.com/feinsand/status/1554249735753682951?s=21&t=-LUT868TZdw41SfDE0E5_w
