Crushing for football fans. That just sucks, Breece Lightning was fun to watch.
As much as I am a proponent of the philosophy of not spending up on RBs in either money or draft capital,* the league is simply much more exciting when there are elite game-breaking RBs throughout the league and it's great when picks like that turn into a Saquon or Breece-level player and not a Trent Richardson (or even a merely decent RB like Sony).

*To be fair to the Jets, Breece was a 2nd rounder but their fourth pick of the draft to that point so I have little issue with them going after a guy they liked there.

Injuries are a constant cloud over this league and it really sucks but until we evolve to have more flexible ligaments there's not really anything to do except keep getting better at treating injuries.

To be fair, in the NBA last year the top 30 players missed like 35% of the season cumulatively.

But, yes, it's tough. If you watch an NFL Sunday at a sports book, you see so many guys down. Most of the injuries are not major but some of them are just brutal. Just yesterday, Mike Williams, Breece Lightning, JC Jackson, and Amon St. Brown, David Njoku, and DK Metcalf were hurt.

That is just off the top of my head, there are obviously many more.

Just nuts about the Ryan news. The guy is injured and will be out a few weeks. Make the argument you are going with the kid to see what he can do. If he does well, then you ride it off into the sunset. If he doesnt, then its a good chance for him to grow and the vet steps back in to play. Just seems like a dumb coaching move even if it works out - you can manage your team better than that I think. Also, what about the remainder of Ryan's contract etc etc.

The Matt Ryan news is pretty odd. He leads the league in picks and has an 84 rating, but the Colts are 3-3-1 so it’s not like it’s a lost season. And he’s under contract for $21 million next year with an $18 million dead cap hit. It’s not like Ehlinger is some elite prospect (no idea how he looked in camp or anything but he was a 6th rounder in 2021 and I’ve heard very little about him). Wonder what the reasoning is behind saying he’s benched for the season rather than just playing Ehlinger while he’s hurt and seeing how he does, like @Jinhocho suggests.

I've been shitting on Matt Ryan for over a year so this doesn't surprise me - the only thing that I'll never understand is why the Colts traded for AND guaranteed all of his money in the off season. Ballard has been committing malpractice as a GM for years and its all going to come home this year.

Just as an aside, the Colts have a weird schedule. They only have one division game remaining .... the final weekend against the Texans.

From most accounts Ehlinger had a fantastic training camp...guy was an under the radar prospect and certainly has potential.

AVT also out for season (tricep). 2 of our best dudes.
One rumor that got repeated a lot after draft day 2021 was that if AVT were available the Pats would have drafted him in the first and Davis Mills in a later round. I haven't watched him play much, but that sucks, sorry. Losing no fewer than three good recent high draft picks to season ending injuries before week 7 is a real shame.

EDIT: Who filled in when AVT went out--Remmers?

SECOND EDIT: Looks like it was Ogbuhei.

He was excellent wherever he was on the line. Rumor I heard aligns with what you’re saying. Jets traded up for him because they thought the Pats would take him.

Also 350+ passing yards 3 times. Empty yards, but they were moving the ball and through the air. He was bad, but others have been worse with less guaranteed $$.

Paging @radsoxfan
I’m seeing it reported as a grade 2 shoulder strain. Which according to my college roommate can be a fairly long recovery. (Months in a bad case) obviously need more info to know more definitively. I just wonder if he was out awhile and they decided to provide certainty over the next 4-8 weeks instead of having a rookie looking I’ve this shoulder waiting on a QB who has been mediocre and without a definite timetable.

I don't get the Matty Ice thing either. They went out of their way to say the benching was not injury related.

The Colts are weird.
