A good reminder that this is a dangerous game and these guys literally put it all on the line every time they go out there. I have friends whose teenage son suffered permanent brain damage from a football hit in high school.

And here we go talking about how much they "suck" when they make bad plays and we demand this incredible performance for our entertainment. These guys are the closest thing to gladiators we have in sport. We need to show ALL of them so much more respect, even the guys who aren't good by NFL standards.

Postpone this game until tomorrow night and postpone their week 18 games until next Monday.

They kept playing after Chuck Hughes had a heart attack on the field after a play in 71.
He died. Not sure when exactly, but players werent told til after the game.
I remember that one. Butkus at first complained to the refs that he was faking an injury until things became clear

Yah. NFL should call this.
I dont know how anyone would be able to continue after this.

Temporary suspended?

just call it for today
I’ll give them benefit of the doubt for the moment. If they get a report an hour from now that Hamlin is stable, both teams might want to play at that point.

Local TV reporter from Cincy was reporting a few minutes ago on Twityer that the ambulance was still on site and was waiting for Hamlin’s mother. No idea if that’s a good sign or a bad one. (Edit: It’s the Danneman tweet quoted above.)

Not a really big deal, but someone should tell Schefter there have been ambulances on fields before.

I think he means we have never seen a player being given CPR on the field like this. We've seen guys get paralyzed on the field, obviously. Stingley, Kevin Everett of the Bills a number of years ago. But not given CPR.

Here
Either shocked heart out of rhythm or maybe a shattered rib into heart/lung?

It did look like refs weren’t sure what to do and coaches, perhaps led by Taylor, said let’s leave field. Good on them/him.

This has happened in lacrosse a few times, sadly including a death. Happened to a HS sophomore (who recovered fully after getting defibbbed) a couple years ago and we changed the equipment in response.
I was wondering about the equipment. I have to assume an NFL stadium is fully equipped with everything that could be needed, but don’t know for sure.

hopefully fully equipped and we get a good result here.

Per John Parry, the NFL office in New York has given both teams the time to go back into their locker rooms and re-group. Not clear whether the game will resume, but certainly not a decision that should be made on the field.
Ethics aside, asking teams to continue is asking for a low-quality product (because no one is going to want to hit hard or simply because their hearts are not in it) to be played in front of fans many of whom will themselves have no desire to watch
