The longer this goes the worse the NFL looks. Between the “get back and play, you have 5 min” to the players and coaches forcing a temporary suspension and now nearly an hour later, no updates at all and no action.

Doubt it. I have money on the game - Cincinatti +4 in fact… I really don’t care about the bet right now. Anyone who does is a selfish POS
Discussing what happens when they postpone this game doesn't mean we don't care what happens to the player.

Let's all have some grace towards each other.

He's an NFL owner, so I think I have him fairly pegged.

Why? Because it's the right thing to do, isn't that obvious? These players are shaken to their core, they aren't going to be in the right mindset to go out and play after waiting an hour to find out if a teammate is alive.

Call it now, let people regroup and make a plan tomorrow to either call it a tie, cancel it or reschedule.
So long as the players in the locker room know they won’t be forced to play unless that’s what they want, I’m not particularly bothered if they wait an hour or two to let the rest of us know what the plan is. It’s possible we’ll know a lot more about Hamlin’s condition in an hour, and it’s a lot easier to announce that the game will resume tomorrow if we know Hamlin is stable. (In the worst case scenario, I’m not sure playing tomorrow is all that much better than resuming the game tonight.)

How far is the field from the hospital? Like, this was a very long time from injury to hospital. Nearly an hour.

It’s not that hard to figure out: hey we should stop running ads including one about temporary disability insurance and also not make the commentators speculate or even talk absent new news. Just show a static shot of the stadium maybe with the notice in the background. ESPN and ABC should be able to figure this out and deserve no breaks.

You don’t have to make a decision right now but if you don’t think Joe Chiefsfan is going to be livid if for examples both teams are give a win (or Billsmafia fan is going to be maddening the bills don’t get a chance to play for a win to get the bye) you don’t know sports fans.

I think this game either finishes tonight or it doesn’t finish at all. Postponing is going to be a logistical nightmare, and asking the players to spend a night in a hotel and come back tomorrow to keep playing is just as unreasonable as asking them to play tonight.

Why does the decision need to be made quickly?

It seems unlikely at this point, but if we got word an hour from now that Hamlin is going to be ok, I wouldn’t be surprised if both teams wanted to play.
This is absurd.

It’s literally unprecedented. Game planning for every single possible scenario is impossible.
In the NFL, maybe. But players have collapsed and some have died on the field/court in too many cases. Remember Hank Gathers? And the Dutch soccer player recently…

Yeah, that seems bad.
Eh - I think you never really know here.

It is possible he can get all the care he needs in the ambulance.

Who knows. Who also knows the exact timelines here. Live event initial reporting is notoriously inaccurate.

Do we really need cameras in the locker room/hallways watching these phone calls and decisions?

Ok, so they left at 9:25, ride wasn’t that long. Just gotta wonder why it took so long to leave, it was half an hour.

Based on Lisa Salters' comments about Bills players leaving the locker room but not headed towards the field, I think it is academic and they are going to get the team out of there before dismissing the fans and formally canceling the game.

You get the feeling the players are saying ”fuck this shit, if we walk out the door the game is definitely not restarting”
If there was anything to cause a wildcat strike in the NFL, it would be something like this.

So they are irresponsible for not preparing for something that’s happened twice in 30 years across all major sports aired on TV. Should they prepare for a fan man scenario too?
