Woo Hoo thanks everyone! I think we had another hot case, so congrats to everyone to hit! The cards are already sorted thanks to my friend, so they'll be shipping out Monday fa sho. I'll post a list and some pics soon.
Thank you, Joe! We have to send you some of those gloves that chefs wear. Don't want you on the IL!

Hahaha man I can't believe I cut myself on a live stream!!! We just looked at that last hit, the Gavin Stone, sold for $500 recently on eBay! We're trying to do the math to see if we recouped the costs of the case again.

I feel like it’ll be a bit short but the Stone and Yeison definitely are evidence for why people really like this rip.

More data to come, but the preliminary auto breakdown looks like this:

ATL - 3
CIN - 3
COL - 2
SEA - 2
TEX - 2
WAS - 2
BOS - 1
PHI - 1
MIN - 1
SD - 1
LAD - 1
NYY - 1
CHC - 1
CLE - 1
LAA - 1
MIA - 1

By my count, that leaves only EIGHT slots without an auto. Pretty good distribution!

That's wild but the logic aligns. I didn't quite realize how strong the Bowman Chrome market was as silly as it sounds
Yep, they're lottery tickets, but they make a ton of cards, sell a ton of cards, so the really low number stuff, no matter how good/bad the prospect is, sell for real money.

The key is that little "1st" in the top right corner. Hobby wide, 1st Bowman's are considered the true rookie card of a player, like an 83 Boggs or an 83 Gwynn back in our day.

Which are now worth nothing!

What was the BOS auto, I missed the break! Probably not the best team for dollar value, but happy I pulled the hometown team.

True that.

The same applies to any cards from the 50's-90's though in most cases. Of course, if they're pristine, they're worth money. Boggs PSA 10's are still getting $1,750-$1,850.00, but they made so fucking many of those cards (Topps released one product all year basically, until Topps Traded started) that the supply was just insane.

Bowman Chrome stuff has retained its value a bit better, but yeah, these are lottery tickets. For every Mike Trout rookie that people dumped or sold early, there are 100 other guys that never reach the Big Leagues, so hanging onto prospects vs. selling them is an age old dilemma.

Swing and a miss. On A's/Orioles.

This is cursed ground for me. I'm gonna tap out.

Edit: when I gamble, at least I can blame myself for picking the wrong team. I can even justify “heads or tails” better.

Mrs Bergs walked in toward the end not realizing I was watching something that I was actually involved in. Last pack, I pull the /25 auto and was psyched. She's like "why do you care that some dude got that card?"..I was like "that dude is me, and we just made a few bucks"...she likes this whole concept much more now.

I’ll also apologize if any of the pairings seemed unreasonable. It was not the intention and I tried to match the market on it. It seemed some worked out and some didn’t.

Everything's packed, labeled, and ready to be dropped off at the post office on Monday!

Except for @deanx0...if you want to swing by my place to grab your cards tomorrow, or meet me downtown during the week? If you want to hook it up for a quick swap, I'm down! Or I can drop it off in the mail as well, up to you!

Caveat with I was not in this break, but out of curiosity, were the pairings two crap teams together? Would it be worth exploring putting the crap teams with a mediocre team instead, to balance out the return possibilities, and try to avoid anyone getting double crap?

They were the bottom 10 teams paired off by an average of team values - so 21st best was paired with 30th, 25th with 26th, etc. With 25 entrants I don't think there is a very good way to pair, like, the 15th best team with anyone without actively disadvantaging someone who has a solo team on the low end. Fewer entrants would even it out a bit more but also raise the price so that's another trade off. And some mid and even high ranked teams didn't get an auto or just got a base auto so it's gambling, I dunno, just trying to think of any way to make it feel better knowing it's gambling - maybe we draft teams next time so it feels like there is some agency?

We can do something higher-end for April, with less participation and a team draft? Give that a whirl to see how it goes?

This concludes our March break, we're on to April!

Thanks again for organizing JP. Everything was nicely wrapped and shipped. Appreciate the pack of Topps. Opened with the kids. Got a base Soto insert they thought looked pretty cool and a Gunnar base rookie.
