The offense wasn't that good again today either. Not surprised a likely .500 team is finding their level again.

Chang's injury really hurt a lot, they just have nothing to put out there for good SS play

With all of the above, this is not a team that can afford letting other teams steal games from them so easily. You had a chance to win a game with almost no offense and just were not ready to manage that 9th inning aggressively. Martin REALLY should have been in after 3-4 batters.

Turned it off after the top of the 8th.

Assumed it would be a clean win. I was wrong.

Core has always sucked. Not sure why anyone is surprised.

Miami (oh, Miami!)
I don't know, I wouldn't put this on Jansen.

I think it's good of Jansen to be ready and want to go. And, when it comes right down to it, he actually got the double play. . .which Hernandez botched.

More importantly, I think Cora is unable to say "no" to his players. Just tell Jansen "no" - give him the day off. Make sure he's ready to go for the next save. Because Jansen can't do back to back to back - someone else has to get a save now and then. It might as well be the game after your regular closer has a breakdown.

Watching again. Ump seemed to be really looking to call violations. Still doesn't change Jansen had absolutely nothing. Hey guys, at least this is only a regular season game. <ducks>

All this blaming Cora on the Jansen blow-up seems as though it would have made more sense if more Soshers had lamented the choice before the inning began. I am so glad that I know that watching that would have been bad for my health. I still haven't watched it, but I have read Gameday.

What was it based on, though? 8 days ago, Jansen had a 0.93 with 2 bb and 15 k in 9 2/3 innings.
Stuff? Psychicness? The way Martin pounds the zone with precision & stuff is just better than what Jansen offers at this point, regardless of small sample size results.

Idk. I definitely didn't expect Jansen to blow up this hard. Pitching him the day after what happened yesterday is awful, though. Give him a day off.

Martin? The guy with a 3.57 FiP and 6.5 K/9 this year?

When you pay a guy $16M per, he’s gonna close. If he was available today, he’s getting the 9th. Now maybe he shouldn’t have been available, but if he was, I’m not really sure what we are arguing about.

Ok? We can see what the results are at the end of the season & if Martin had a better season than Jansen, we can say it was a lucky guess & if Jansen's stats are better, we can say I'm dumb & wrong :)

We could skip the end of the season rush and do that

He's the closer, and I'm fine with that. But this is where the whole "players' manager" thing gets in the way. Logically, Cora talked to Jansen before the game, and he said he wanted the ball. But after how bad he was last night and how well Sale pitched, Cora could overrule and use another, likely less risky, option.

That’s 20-20 hindsight. If he goes 1-2-3 and fights the ship, no one is complaining. But the result is the problem.

But is Martin or Schreiber less risky, just because Jansen blew the save last night? That seems hard to prove.

It does seem odd that Cora let Sale go 8 and throw 110 pitches….yet turn the 9th to the guy who pitched yesterday when Martin and Schreiber didn’t.

I’m just going to take a deep breath and say that notwithstanding the recent shit shows, this team is vastly more watchable than last year’s on every front.
