I think it is not a good call. But it was really close. It is a very misunderstood rule. The base path is the base path set by the runner, not the line on the ground.That is a terrible call.

He went three feet out of the base path, but it only matters if you do it to avoid the tag.
My call there would be that he deviated from his bath path just before the tag attempt, set a new base path, and did not deviate from it during the tag attempt. But it is very close.
