Waddle has 86 yards and Hill had 40. No one else had more than 40. Explain.Huge contrast in how the Patriots receivers always catch the ball flat footed and the Dolphins always on the move. The lack of YAC is tough to overcome.
Or some of us just are realists? Not in the neighborhood? Do you have a different angle of the making it seem like it was close?Stop trying to be the one honest cop in the town full of homers, some of you. Irrefutable evidence is the standard. That wasn’t in the fucking neighborhood of that. Who knows whether they would’ve capitalized, and they are completely pedestrian, blah team, at least offensively. And did plenty to earn the loss. But that was a fucking atrocious application of the replay rule. And robbed them of a chance.
Idk. The reason they get hung up on these is that the angles can get very distorting without nearby field markings. From the angle shown, he was definitely short, but who knows if the camera was actually 90 degrees from the play. I'm sure we would have found another way to not score, but it's a shitty way for the game to end.it wasn’t close. His knee was down and the ball was a half yard behind the line. You can see the hash right there.
I don't get this. Did the prevoius first down land the ball directly on the 39 yard line? The chains always start on a yard line for this very reason. They just need to compare the ball to the hash mark.
2.5 drives today, maybe next week we'll break 3Well the good news is those two drives a game or so in which they look like a well oiled machine offensively should be enough to beat the Jets.
But every first down doesn’t always start on a hash mark, does it? So wouldn’t this mean sometimes you have to get slightly more or less than 10 yards for the next first down? The chains start on a tick and end on a tick (hash mark). They just need to compare to the hash mark.
Betcha it isn’t. Nobody gives a shit on a 30 yard play if the ball is spotted a half yard short. That ball is going on a line 1000% of the time.Ball is spotted in between marks all the time, even when a first down is made.
It definitely sucksHonestly I'm pretty sure Strange was short, but it does annoy me anyway because they didn't overturn the one on the challenge earlier that seemed at least as clear of a bad spot, and with replay the whole point is to make it less subjective and apply the same standard. Just giving refs more ways to screw up isn't what it's supposed to be for.
Yeah, Lowe a half-step closer to Strange and he shoves him well over the line to gain.Lowe and Mafi weren’t quite quick enough with the push!
Ok, so then what happens when on 1st and 10 a team gets 10.5 yards? Pretty sure they don't just call it 10 or 11 and put the ball on one of the hash marksNot never, because sometimes there can be half the distance penalties that put the ball on a half yard line for a first down. Or a team turns it over on downs from a half yard line. But other than that, every new series will start exactly on a line.
99% of them will. I listed the edge cases earlier. But every first down doesn’t always start on a hash mark, does it? So wouldn’t this mean sometimes you have to get slightly more or less than 10 yards for the next first down?
Would probably be a waste honestly. Better save it.2.5 drives today, maybe next week we'll break 3
They absolutely doOk, so then what happens when on 1st and 10 a team gets 10.5 yards? Pretty sure they don't just call it 10 or 11 and put the ball on one of the hash marks
Fascinating. I’m going to be on the lookout for this now.Betcha it isn’t. Nobody gives a shit on a 30 yard play if the ball is spotted a half yard short. That ball is going on a line 1000% of the time.
The Patriots are probably the most objectively boring team in the NFL. The Titans and Bears are up there but Fields is entertaining in a train wreck sort of way. That sucked but this team is not fun to play. That makes them entertaining. I was here for the Before Times and take nothing for granted so I will be ok with that for now.
I thought the best point Terry brought up was “it’s in space.” I don’t feel confident I could make a decision either way from the camera angle as I’m not confident it’s showing me where the ball is in relation to the imaginary line connecting the hash marks. I would have stuck with whatever the call was on the field. FWIW, I thought it was short live.I think the first was right on the hash and he seems short when his knee hits. Not that conclusive though.
I mean, it definitely makes sense when you see the same ref mark the ball and immediately motion that it's a first down without really looking too carefully at the first down marker.Fascinating. I’m going to be on the lookout for this now.
The defense is generally pretty exciting, though today they ran a gameplan that was not. The offense is boring af.The Patriots are probably the most objectively boring team in the NFL. The Titians and Bears are up there but Fields is entertaining in a train wreck sort of way.
Dude, maybe settle down a bit on the tone policing after yet another frustrating loss. The tenor of the thread isn't even that negative considering how the end of the game unfolded.I am convinced that many on here never watched the Pats who won games they didn’t “deserve” to win because they made fewer mistakes. This was one of those games.
Take out the Mostert long run and what are those numbers.Pats had 71 plays, 288 yards. Dolphins had 61 and 389.
Agreed that they were bad spots. The only real difference was whether you could see the ball.Honestly I'm pretty sure Strange was short, but it does annoy me anyway because they didn't overturn the one on the challenge earlier that seemed at least as clear of a bad spot, and with replay the whole point is to make it less subjective and apply the same standard. Just giving refs more ways to screw up isn't what it's supposed to be for.
They are him, they are every player and team who aren't good enough to beat you unless its their best day. However they will always push you and always keep coming. So the Patriots are the Russ Courtnall of football. Eeesh.
Well said. Thank you.Stop trying to be the one honest cop in the town full of homers, some of you.
1000%Fascinating. I’m going to be on the lookout for this now.
Amazing. “Take out the play that the dolphins are designed to create and then what are those numbers.”Take out the Mostert long run and what are those numbers.
Disagree. The punt block was fun. The pick was impressive. The ending was weird. They made it close. The Patriots are probably the most objectively boring team in the NFL. The Titans and Bears are up there but Fields is entertaining in a train wreck sort of way.
Agree to disagree. This team is a good faith competitive also-ran. Sometimes that's what life deals you as a fan.The Patriots are probably the most objectively boring team in the NFL. The Titans and Bears are up there but Fields is entertaining in a train wreck sort of way.
Settle down? I’m speaking about those that seem to forget how the pats won during their run. They didn’t dominate teams.Dude, maybe settle down a bit on the tone policing after yet another frustrating loss. The tenor of the thread isn't even that negative considering how the end of the game unfolded.
Is it super obvious? One goes 31/42 for 231 and the other goes for 21/30. So a lot better? I guess Tua also ran for 4 yards... which ended up being 1 because of taking a knee.Absolutely, yeah.
FWIW, he has always held a special fondness for Russ Courtnall. The guy who “shouldn’t” be any good, but, like, is.They are him, they are every player and team who aren't good enough to beat you unless its their best day. However they will always push you and always keep coming.
This team ends up dying a natural death in most games versus teams stomping all over them.
