    You can follow the case on the Maricopa County Superior Court website: http://www.superiorcourt.maricopa.gov/docket/CriminalCourtCases/caseInfo.asp?caseNumber=CR2015-001671 The page states that trial is set for 9/12/17 but this is second or third time that a trial date has been listed.

    Couple things: 1) This reminds me of the Adrian Dantley / Mark Aguirre trade in the late 80s. 2) If the Celtics were on the opposite end of this trade, I'd hate it. Getting a younger, better player in Irving is what sells it for me.

    Because they can have them for most of the 2017-18 season and move them at the deadline for further assets. Both have extremely team-friendly salaries and it wouldn't take much cap maneuvering for a playoff-bound team to get one of them.

    The crux of the Butler issue for me is that he's only under contract for two years (17/18,18/19). I would rather roll the dice with 5 years of a top 3 pick, gain more assets while maintaining payroll flexibility - especially if they can net a free agent without surrending assets.

    I used the RealGM trade machine that permits you to renounce players. The full allotment of players includes all of the draft pick holds and remaining free agent cap holds. Edit: it looks like RealGM doesn't operate correctly with maneuvering contracts for trades.
