5/4 Grissom needs a day off

Grissom's return should help, as should getting Dalbec out of the metro Boston area and (hopefully) Yoshida back soon. So far 12th highest Runs scored, 7th highest OPS in MLB (which also speaks to how depressed offense has been league-wide). I don't love a lineup filled with Dom Smith and David...

Why is offense down in 2024, AKA is the juice(d ball) loose?

Interesting. Maybe I'm reading the data wrong (definitely possible) but aren't the whiff rates a lot higher on breaking pitches than fastballs? I would have thought fewer fastballs and more sliders would lead to more strikeouts, but maybe that changes if hitters are expecting more sliders...

Why is offense down in 2024, AKA is the juice(d ball) loose?

Yes, the article has an interesting chart that shows this is a league-wide trend: I would have suspected that this would lead to more strikeouts though? It does seem to be leading to more popups, but strikeouts are down.

Why is offense down in 2024, AKA is the juice(d ball) loose?

This has been debated a bunch in recent years, with no clarity either way. So let's talk about it again! There's been so much change across the baseball landscape -- from the pitch clock to banning sticky stuff and enlarging the bases, to banning the shift to the explosion in off-speed pitches...

    Misc. Pats Offseason News

SoSH remains undefeated -- of course we have someone who watched him in college. Anyway, I worry I'm spamming BBTL with Joey Touchbacks (lol) content at this point. And to @tims4wins's point, I don't think anyone expects the journeyman kicker in his late 20s who has been on 5 teams since 2021...

    Post-draft unofficial depth chart

We should probably make a Kicker position thread, but bringing over a post I made the other day in the UDFA thread:

    2024 UDFA

[ Haha well that didn’t take long — probably deserves its own thread. https://x.com/mikereiss/status/1786053827457626335?s=46&t=6DB7f-vL8rs72lyXNmMD-A

    May 2024 News and Notes

So… is MLB messing with the baseballs again? This probably deserves its own thread, but there’s a compelling across the board lack of offense. Total batting average so far down to .240, lowest mark since 1968. HRs down to their lowest rate in a decade, SLG and OPS similarly at the lowest mark...

May: Red Sox discussion, observations and trend tracking...AKA It's not all about the Benjamins

I agree with the consensus: the 2024 Sox have been (mostly) a joy to watch. After an offseason filled with acrimony and doom & gloom, it has been a revelation to watch the unheralded guys in the rotation all simultaneously take steps forward and the team play well. And as others have said, the...

Beat the Giants today Maye 2

Yeah that camera angled Trup-ed us at home. Was surprised and amused when they panned down from the Monster seats to a lazy fly ball in LF.

Current State of the O Line

I think that’s right. And also, as far as “being a good teammate” or leader or whatever, let’s remember Andrews had a serious blood clot condition in 2019 that cost him the season. Thankfully he recovered fine, but while I’m not a doctor my understanding is that a recurrence is possible...

Agreed. It’s all over but the squeaking (of the shoes).

    5/1: Game 5@Boston

Glad JT and JB are out. No more twisted ankles in landing zones please. Veal Chop was going after Herro on the NBC broadcast. Saying he can shoot but he doesn’t play scrappy or play defense like the rest of the Heat.

I don’t want JT or JB on the floor against this dirty Heat crew.
