Noah's Arc: Song back, assigned to GVL.

He's going on the IL for not being in shape to pitch, and the Phillies are going to see if anybody will stop them from taking 4 months to ramp him up before a soft July 1st deadline to put him in the majors (so he can finish up his 90 days on the active roster requirement this season). This...

Noah's Arc: Song back, assigned to GVL.

It wouldn't shock me if he was siting like 88 with bad control on the fastball and had no feel for his breaking pitches on opening day. It doesn't sound like he's thought about baseball for years and both Song and Dombrowski were trying to dampen expectations. If he is returned I bet they...

Noah's Arc: Song back, assigned to GVL.

To keep Song, the Sox would've had to add him to the 40 for a minute, and then take him off and put him on the military list. He would have stayed on that list until he got discharged, which was expected to be after the 2024 season. He would accrue major league service time while on the list...

Baseball America Top 100 ‘23: 5 Red Sox

I don't think you want to play Niko much at 1B no matter what happens with his bat and Casas'. He's pretty rough in the field.

    2023 International Class

We don't know how much they've spent. The Sox Prospect list only includes the handful of bonus figures that have been reported somewhere. There's a few guys with unreported bonuses that they've hyped up in the press, which would seem to indicate they got more than peanuts.

    Offseason 2022-23 MLB Thread

BTV is not infallible. Lopez being worth a lot more than Arraez is quite dubious - Arraez has a little higher WAR projection for next year and is a year behind in service.

If someone rated Yoshida as highly as like Devlin Granberg or whoever, and then he signs for $90 million and they instantly increase his grade by a lot, then it's fair to say that the contract served as a reality check. It does not appear to me that you have much insight on what all other 29...

Baseball America Top 100 ‘23: 5 Red Sox

For whatever reason, there were some really dumb opinions floating around about Yoshida in the internet scout community before his contract came as a reality check. Fangraphs had a 35+ grade on him, which is just absurd for a guy that was dominating Japan for years. 35+ is what they would give...

    Ursa Major

A passed ball costs you about a third of a run on average. Even being the single worst in the league doesn't really move the needle all that much. Alfaro has 49 PB in 3340 innings. An average C would have about 18. So he's cost his team about 10 runs over 400 games.

Red Sox Rumors - Just Kidding

Mills is safe, they gave up a guy with some legitimate value for him. Brasier is very likely to get traded as he needs to stay on the 26 man and there's no space for him. Past him, Ort, Seabold and Dalbec are the lowest value guys on the 40 IMO.

    What about Bobby?

Worcester doesn't have another first baseman. Let him play there until something happens. There's probably easier cuts off the 40 man.

For the record, that's Ceddanne's brother.

Red Sox Rumors - Just Kidding

I think the best way to look at this is that a replacement level team wins 47.5 games. This is just the quality replacement level is defined as. If you take that team and spend up the luxury tax limit you get 215/9 = 23.8 more wins. Okay, now we're up to a 71 win team. Not so hot. To be a...

Red Sox Rumors - Just Kidding

Is there a source for this? He's under contract for 2 more years. Most players coming from Asia get it written in their deal that they're released after their contract is up so they can become a free agent instead of being subject to arbitration.

Red Sox Rumors - Just Kidding

It doesn't make a difference to the player. You can either say that you have a new contract that starts in 2024, in which cases his 2023 AAV is his 6th year arb salary, or you announce that you're ripping up his current deal and have a long term contract that starts in 2023. In the former...
