2021 Baseball America Red Sox Top 10 Prospects

FanGraphs' Zips 2021 Top 100 Prospects is out. The bottom half is littered with Red Sox youngsters: 20 - Jeter Downs 67 - Triston Casas 71 - Connor Seabold 77 - Garrett Whitlock 88 - Bryan Mata Of note, three of these guys were picked up by Bloom: Downs from the Dodgers in the Mookie deal...

The AAA Sox Stadium Thread: Where Ever They May Roam

With that six game series (and six games per week) schedule, would it make sense to run with a six man starting rotation? No starter has to face the same opponent twice in a series. Don’t have to account for the day off every week. It would feel like a college rotation, where you’ve got your...

Sox Officially Sever Ties With Lowell Spinners (With a Caveat)

David Laurila in his Sunday Notes column says the league names are going to be sold for corporate branding. Disgusting. "The latest news in the restructuring of the minors includes the replacing of longstanding league names with generic placeholder names, with MLB reportedly planning to sell...

Benintendi to Royals for Franchy Cordero, Mets RHP prospect Josh Winckowski, and 3 PTBNLs

From Mass Live: “We have frameworks in place with the clubs as to how and when we’re going to do that,” Bloom said. “There’s not names of the players we’re embargoing right now.” Though Bloom wouldn’t discuss the specific frameworks, it’s likely that the Red Sox and the other clubs have agreed...

Might as well start talking about 2021

Yes, when JBJ uses the whole field he’s a good hitter. But he gets into long stretches of the bad habit of pulling everything and turns into a G4-3 machine. Nevertheless, I love him for his D, for his hot stretches, and for being the lone Sox player to take a knee on opening day. I hope he...

I don’t trust those stats either, on their own. But they do confirm what I saw watching him play center (that he wasn’t good). And my larger point was that the Sox saw him playing center and chose to give him less and less time there.

Might as well start talking about 2021

Benintendi has already proven he can't play CF. In 2017, he played 241 innings in center with a -17 Total Zone rating and -10 DRS. In 2018, he played 191 innings in center with a -38 in both numbers. In 2019 he played 63 innings in center, with a -38 Total Zone and strangely a +19 DRS. Small...

    BEAT L.A. (The Gamethread)

In 2003 Grady left Pedro in. It was, rightfully, a fireable decision. In 2020, Cash pulls Snell. Is it a fireable decision?

    BEAT L.A. (The Gamethread)

I don’t think handedness of the centerfielder was an issue. Softly hit ball, bounced three or four times before Taylor muffed it coming in on it. Had Bellinger been in he would have had time to square up on it. I don’t see how the scorer didn’t give Smith an error for missing that catch. It’s...

Shoot, with that money Mookie will have his own bowling alley in his basement.

Red Sox Draft Tanner Houck, RHP, Missouri at #24 Overall

Joe Castig likes the movement on his fastball and his wipe-out slider. Eck or Remy wants to see him develop a third pitch.

    2021 Draft

TINSTAAPP. On the other hand, the Sox have excelled at finding and developing position players: Bradley, Betts, Bogaerts, Benintendi, Devers, maybe Dalbec. And using prospects — pitching and position — to trade for MLB pitching. Several former Sox pitching prospects are effective MLBers, just...
