I think he is referring to the Pittsburg Pirates NHL team which joined the NHL one year after the Bruins, when the Bruins colors were brown and yellow. The NHL Pirates only lasted a few seasons before moving to Philadelphia and then disbanding.

Also the Bruins only have a second (#47) and a third round pick (#88) this year that would be better than the pick Montreal traded (#140).

That trade just secures negotiating rights with Edmunson before he hits UFA, which he will probably do unless Montreal overwhelms him with an offer

The primary objection to forced vaccination (or forced medical care of any kind) is that it violates the autonomy of the individual. That being said, the risks of infection far, far exceed the risks associated with vaccination or boosters.

Protecting the Shields -- The Nick Cafardo Thread

This was my favorite bit, regarding Luke Hochevar:   The Royals could make him a starter again, but they seem to have missed the boat not dealing him at the deadline. However, general manager Dayton Moore correctly surmised that Hochevar could help them down the stretch.    So, which is it? Did...

[/size] Well, his son Ben works for ESPN where Valentine was employed prior to being hired by the Red Sox, so Cafardo may have had some inside info on that one.

Protecting the Shields -- The Nick Cafardo Thread

It looks as if Nick and/or the Globe editors dropped the ball again this week (at least in the on-line version of the Baseball Notes) when he insisted that Lance Berkman would be a great fit for the Sox. He agreed to terms with the Rangers yesterday. I realize that the Notes are submitted in...

Protecting the Shields -- The Nick Cafardo Thread

Cafardo's inability to recognize that Valentine has been a monumental failure as Sox manager is infuriating. Somewhere, in all of major (and minor) league baseball, the Sox should be able to find a managerial candidate who is not only a good in-game tactician (Valentine's purported strength...

Protecting the Shields -- The Nick Cafardo Thread

It is good to see that Cafardo hasn't abandoned his anti-Ellsbury agenda. Does he really think that Ellsbury's inability to execute a bunt really was a game changing moment? When you lose by 18 runs, you can't blame a botched bunt attempt. On a side note - was this a sacrifice bunt attempt...

Protecting the Shields -- The Nick Cafardo Thread

Cafardo on the Red Sox pre-game show sticking the knife a little deeper in Adrian Gonzalez's back. First, he bashes Adrian Gonzalez in his Globe article this morning. Now apparently, Nick doesn't like the fact the Adrian Gonzalez doesn't run out every ground ball hard. As a counter example, he...
