    Kevin Durant Sweepstakes

Yes---though I'm of the view that Jaylen is almost surely the best player the Nets will get (even, probability-wise, if they get a pick-heavy deal elsewhere). And I still do think Sixers want to help the Nets weaken the Celtics, whether or not it will be a successful gambit.

    Kevin Durant Sweepstakes

Morey is always going to get involved with a superstar! And he's super creative, though I just can't see how he can get to enough assets here. Beyond the (small) chance they get him, also useful for Sixers to try and make Celtics or others pay as much as possible. And this is likely driven...

    James White announces his retirement

He played his best game on the biggest stage when the team needed him the most - thank you James!

Would you trade Jaylen+ for Durant?

Step back though: your argument now is that three superstars combined to lose earlier in the playoffs than the Jays, and managed to blow themselves apart in one year, so we should believe KD will fit with Tatum? That's crazy. The Nets case is precisely why we should be hesitatant here. It...

Would you trade Jaylen+ for Durant?

I also agree that the reason you explore this is because Jaylen could walk. They have a far better sense than we do of the risk there, and if they make a KD deal I will believe that is the number one or co-number one reason they did so (as much or more than KD being an awesome player). I...

    Kevin Durant Sweepstakes

Maybe, but there's some risk for KD there: the more blatant it is that Celtics are talking to Nets about a trade the more motivated the Celtics will be to deny it and walk away to preserve their relationship with Jaylen. So I'm not sure it is fully in KD's interest to push harder for the...

Would you trade Jaylen+ for Durant?

Kyrie, Harden, and KD were all supposed to be great fits on the court, most obviously. And that illustrates my point: it is not about theoretical basketball fit it is also about role, image, and ego. That's the risk here, and that is very much an on-court risk we'd face with this trade. Who...

Would you trade Jaylen+ for Durant?

Yeah, and so the question is now that they've taken a team to the Finals....why would we want to re-start the chemistry integration with someone who is quite different? You assume the on-court fit and I think the reality in the NBA is that should never be assumed. That's because these guys...

Would you trade Jaylen+ for Durant?

I hear all that, and it's fair. For me, the big reason I sit on the other side of it is how I value chemistry between your top players---I think that is an absoulutely critical and tough to achieve thing in the NBA, and we have it with the Jays. We might have it with Durant/Tatum as well but...

    Kevin Durant Sweepstakes

What I think is hard to know is whether KD really is trying to get away from Kyrie (easy to believe, but unproven), Nash/Marks, Tsai, or all of them. Saying "fire management" at this point suggests the last of those to me, because it isn't really yessable for Tsai. But no way to know. I was...

    The Ringer

The thing to remember, whether you like Simmons, hate him, or used to like him and got tired of him, is that he has become far more a media innovator and talent spotter than performer. He's really good at those two other things even if he is somewhat mailing it in now as a performer. So I give...

    Sox acquire Eric Hosmer

I would say it differently, they had a really bad offseason and are trying to plug some holes with more serviceable parts. It doesn't answer all the structural questions, but it addresses smaller problems which are also real. These are "making awful into average" moves which I get isn't sexy...

    Sox acquire Eric Hosmer

Yeah, I don't have any problem with the Hosmer pickup assuming it's nearly free. I do think Smith has upside and that's been lost in his role-less Mets situation. I also suspect Sox could have had either and made a choice, which I don't think is unreasonable.
