    Clay Buchholz: Rolaids Relief Man

Was a little sad to hear the crowd booing him; he's been really, really bad this year, but he's played a big part in some of my happiest Red Sox memories. That game 4 start in 2013 was pretty impressive considering his arm had all but fallen off at that point.

    Plex

If you're just trying to stream over your home network, totally agreed. And in that case I'd recommend Kodi over anything else. If you want to be able to watch your media while away from home, then you'll need something like Plex or Emby to handle transcoding.

    Plex

Plex is great, but worth bringing Emby into the discussion. Very similar offering, integrates better with Kodi/XBMC if you're already running that set up, and is open source. Plex has more polished client apps, though I like the Emby web player a lot more, and on the whole like the direction...

    FIFA 15

I coin farmed a few years ago, mainly just to see how easy it was. All I did was buy rare gold contracts for 250 BIN and resell for between 350-450; was making over 100k in coins a day. Ridiculous how simple it was, if I'd put in any sort of effort to actually learn the market I could have made...

    Chuck's War on Stats

I work for a team in analytics, and yeah, anyone and everyone I've met who's in a similar role has taken a significant pay cut or is making a good bit less than they could if they pursued other jobs. No one takes these jobs if they don't really, really like basketball (though a surprising...

Red Sox meet with James Shields, but really what they want to do is discuss opt-outs with Max Scherz

Player opts out Team Lets Player Walk Result: Team would have been better off without player option. Could have dealt that player for value as the player was in all likelihood on a market friendly deal if they opted out of it. Team Re-signs player for bigger contract. Result: Team would have...

    Real Plus Minus, good stat?

That's fair. I haven't played around with it enough to know just how much role fluctuations impact it, just that conceptually there are some imperfections in the assumptions being made. But yeah, as far as single number evaluation things go, it's as viable or more than anything else out there.  ...

    Real Plus Minus, good stat?

My understanding of RPM is that it's essentially a huge system of equations, where each equation is a sum of 10 players (5 offense, 5 defense) set equal to the point differential that occurred while those 10 players were on the court together (also weighted for minutes of course). If you know...

Laptop is the thing, I think

The best part about this is the more people recommend Macs, and the more who buy, the less true this will become.     If all you need is a laptop for web browsing/movies/Office you shouldn't be paying more than $600 absolute tops (unless you really want a Mac, in which case I'd recommend...

The Plan? Be flexible, I guess.

And yet you seem to be the one ignoring these variables, talking as if a pitcher can only do two things: allow a ball to be hit into play, or not.   Some pitchers have the ability to induce weak contact, that leads to balls in play that are less likely to turn into hits, thus accomplishing the...

The Plan? Be flexible, I guess.

Not when they're counteracted by the low BABIP a pitch to contact guy produces.   I mean, at the end of the day, Porcello gets guys out at a pretty good rate. Why do you care how it happens? I'd get it if our infield defense was a disaster, but it's not.

Sox acquire Rick Porcello for Yoenis Cespedes, Alex Wilson, and Gabe Speier

Are you looking at his hitting WAR by any chance?

    Kevin Love News and Rumors

The problem with Waiters is he passes the eye test with flying colors. You see him hit some difficult mid range shots, get in the lane off the dribble, and suddenly it becomes easy to view him as a good player.   But the guy is straight up awful. Horrible shot selection, doesn't get to the free...

    Celtics Interested In Evan Turner?

I tend to agree.   Turner doesn't seem to fit any of the criteria I'd imagine is common in guys who breakout at an advanced age: -Has this player been denied a chance to flourish in a role that fits his skill set yet? -Was this player's environment unstable early in his career (either due to...
