Casas has a left rib fracture. He will be out "a while." (4/23 update)

You mean other than playing him in public, right?

Joe Mazzulla officially named head coach

Was surprised to see Celts up 20 with 2 min left and all the regulars out there. Sure enough, a scary collision nearly injured Tatum. with last year’s Jaylen Brown injury and Tatum shoulder detailing the conf finals, I’d have thought they may try to limit risks for a deep run.

Tim Wakefield has passed away from brain cancer at 57 (10/1 update)

And super meaningful to Papelbon, too, judging from the tattoo below it. Seems he was as genuinely liked by all of his teammates

    The Tommy John Epidemic

Are we seeing similar health issues in non-US markets where the max-effort and training programs may not exist (Japan) or even the minors where they are starting to be implemented?

The Juice Expires (OJ Dead at 76)

I wonder if his death means that all of his assets are now there for distribution to the Goldmans? His pension, for example, or the proceeds from selling his "homestead exempt" Florida house.

The TrevorEnding Story: needs shoulder surgery, out for the year (4/9 update)

Is it possible its an interior fracture, not to the rim? If so, is this a better form of fracture? Also, it reads as if this means there may not have been a dislocation, but rather the bone being jamned into the socket. https://www.verywellhealth.com/glenoid-fractures-2549790

Red Sox, Ceddanne Rafaela agree to contract extension

They prefer 4 $30 million gambles than 1 $120 million gamble

    Larry Lucchino dead at 78

A week from the death of Peter Angelos, the guy Lucchino sold the Orioles to. He was the disruptive force that spurred much of the success for 2004-2018. He also mentored Theo, and brought him into baseball and then to the Sox.

    Patriots' 2024 Free Agency Thread

With having a top 3 pick I assume they’ll have to set aside a decent amount of cap to sign those picks

    How's Boras Doing This Off-Season?

I’m not too sure about the value of a pillow for the Sox. It will make them more competitive this year, but their primary goal is building a longer term team. For purposes of planning, a yearly opt out is counterproductive. Especially with the opt out being structured as a front loaded contract...

Eliot Wolf will be in charge of the personnel department,

At a minimum, I think the interview makes clear that the Draft subform must be renamed from Wait, Who??? to "Kiper's next highest rated player is ...."

    Offseason rumors

Add in that the actual starters in that group, Sale, Paxton and Kluber were unreliable not just in length, but in availability. Its one thing to have starters falter earlier than you like, its another for them to miss months at a time leaving a hole and "bullpen games" right from the get go...

    A-Rod's Legacy

Yikes. I was going to drop a Manny in there, but his WAR (108th) is pretty pedestrian for one of the best hitters ever. And how is Beltre above Boggs for career WAR - longevity?

    Let's Lay Off That Throttle

No payroll commitments means they will have to buy new players in 2025 just to replicate the current team, or, more likely, at higher prices if they want to upgrade. Just as we had to pay O'Neill 6 mil just to come close to Duval's $7 mil "coming off the payroll" last year, and will have to...
