    Grantland

Didnt know who Grantland was before I read the Deadspin article, which tickled some neuron from some old best sportswriting of the 1920s book that Frank Deford edited, which I must have read sometime in my youth.

    TMQ Thread

I used to read his columns religiously. Then I got tired of him so I only read this thread. Then someone here pointed the way to "Bottom of the Barrel" http://bottom-of-the-barrel.blogspot.com/ Now I read his blog-decimation of TMQ every week.

Protecting the Shields -- The Nick Cafardo Thread

one thing that really annoys me with his columns is that he is constantly refering to unnamed insiders, whose expertise is taken as a fact, and who then spew 'old fashioned' baseball canards that are refuted or irrelevant. by farming out the analysis, he is getting information akin to listening...

Nice catch...you could win a lot of bar bets with that nugget. It is an interesting table to be sure. NYM down 10k/game. I didnt realize that Shea packed them in so well for its 'farewell' tour.

Papelbon is better because... why? ----- He just knows how to win.

Protecting the Shields -- The Nick Cafardo Thread

    4. Cuban defector Jose Iglesias is an Ozzie Smith-like shortstop. Quite a catch for the Sox if they land him; --------------- Honest question. In this day and age, where new metrics hold sway, is Ozzie Smith a 'catch' anymore? He played to a career .666 OPS. Peak of .775. I certainly...

He's a winner, cuz all he does is win. I guess. Except for when he doesn't. But maybe that is someone else's fault.

Why Do I Continue to Read Peter King?

No I dont think he would agree. I dont know why I am even arguing this. Obviously it is a Dylan song, that prince played in the arrangement and style of Hendrix. Enough already. T

Why Do I Continue to Read Peter King?

Of course I do, you #$@@%. It is a Dylan song. But if someone plays Hound Dog and plays it like Elvis, are they covering Elvis? Or are they covering Big Mama Thornton, or Freddy Bell who originated the song? I liked the version, and I like the fact that Prince channeled Jimi when he played it...

Why Do I Continue to Read Peter King?

If Pearl Jam played the super bowl next year, I will probably shit my pants. And if they covered Kick out the Jams, (one of their greatest live covers) I would have a stroke. WIth PJ, as everyone should know, they run about 10-20% cover songs in a show. I loved the Prince show, and to be...

Why Do I Continue to Read Peter King?

A week late, but maybe that will mean good things for Art next year. We shall see.

Why Do I Continue to Read Peter King?

Hmm, I though that the guys on the radio were down on King for being against Monk. Maybe they are just blohards. Who knows. Here is a quote from last years HOF Q&A in Si, but maybe King has changed his tune. Some guy raves about Monk, then says: You really lose all credibility to me since...

Why Do I Continue to Read Peter King?

Down here in DC we hear about how King is keeping Art Monk out of the HOF by pummeling him every year. If that is true, it seems like actively propagandizing against someone is pretty lame. Especially the guys who defined the reciever position between Ray Barry and Jerry Rice.
